Soon, it was time for Rachel to start school.
After numerous reminders from her parents and her own parting words to them, Rachel, with her parents' reluctant gazes following her, dragged her suitcase into school.
After moving into the dormitory and getting to know her new roommates, the group headed towards the classroom together.
As they passed by the door to Class 1 of the first year, Rachel instinctively glanced inside.
By the window, a young boy in a school uniform sat, leaning on his hand as he flipped through the newly distributed textbooks.
Just one glance was enough to make Rachel’s gaze linger, unable to look away.
In her previous life, Sean had sat in the same way in class, which was why, when she first entered the classroom, her eyes naturally fell on him and couldn’t be torn away.
That’s when she had taken the initiative to greet him, pulling him down from his pedestal, ultimately leading her to sink into an abyss of endless pain and suffering.
This time, however, Rachel only glanced at Sean before quickly averting her gaze and walking toward Class 3, further down the hall.
West Hill High School was the school her parents had spent an entire month carefully selecting, considering what was best for her, and naturally, Rachel didn’t want to let them down.
Classes 1 and 2, along with Classes 5 and 6, focused on science, and students and teachers from these classes interacted more often.
Classes 3 and 4, along with Classes 7 and 8, leaned toward the humanities, meaning there was less communication with the science-focused classes.
Therefore, in order to avoid meeting Sean, and based on her own academic performance, Rachel chose Class 3.
For an entire week after that, she didn’t encounter Sean at all.
The orientation had been completed during the summer break, and the first week of school was filled with various exams.
The exams were meant to assess the students’ levels and help the teachers tailor their instruction accordingly.
So, by the end of the week, Rachel was overwhelmed and exhausted. She didn’t have time to think about Sean, let alone see him, and even found it hard to squeeze in a proper meal.
Every night, after returning to the dorm and washing up, she would collapse into bed, barely able to sleep enough.
Finally, Friday evening arrived, and it was time to go home. Students in West Hill High School, all wearing their school uniforms, crowded the main road leading out of the school.
After bidding farewell to her classmates, Rachel climbed into her parents’ car.
When they arrived home, her busy parents finally remembered they hadn’t bought her any gifts.
They hurriedly decided to go out to buy something for her.
But, recalling that today was the anniversary of her parents’ car accident, Rachel panicked and quickly stopped them.
After a long round of persuasion, convincing them that she didn’t mind, her parents eventually gave up on their plan to go out.
And so, the fate of her parents was finally altered.
That night, Rachel finally slept peacefully for the first time since her rebirth.
The next morning, as she went downstairs for breakfast, she happened to bump into her father, who had just returned from buying groceries.
Handing the groceries to her mother, her father sighed in relief. “Good thing we listened to Rachel last night and didn’t go out.”
“Last night, at the usual intersection we always pass, there was a car crash. The driver died on the spot, and the person in the back seat is still in the ICU. I heard that person was one of our daughter’s classmates-seems like his name was Sean?”
“Bang!”
The spoon in Rachel’s hand fell into her soy milk, splashing the liquid onto her collar, but she didn’t even notice. Her ears were buzzing, as if the whole world had gone silent.
Sean was in a car accident?
How could that be?
Rachel searched her memories but couldn’t find any trace of Sean ever being in a car crash, let alone something this serious.
Her heart felt like it was being gripped by an invisible hand, and her breathing became rapid.
No… no way.
She had to go to the hospital!
With that thought, Rachel suddenly tried to stand up, but the movement caught her parents’ attention.
“Rachel, what’s wrong?”
Hearing her mother’s concerned voice, Rachel snapped back to reality.
“I… I’m fine.”
She quickly sat back down, but the hand holding the spoon was still trembling slightly.
She had acted impulsively.
Since she had already decided not to get involved with Sean, she shouldn’t be paying attention to him or caring about him anymore.
