Kairo watched attentively at Xanai, so intensely he could tell when she inhaled or exhaled.
It had been three days, three days since he'd seen her eyes, three days since they've talked, hugged or anything of the sort.
And in those three days, he hadn't had a blink of sleep.
Sade-Lynn stayed the first day, but left the second as she needed to attend to her actual child, and her grown child, her husband.
Kairo's had bags under his eyes, which were red but lifeless.
Sade- Lynn then entered the room once more, as she had left to get something for them to eat.
She handed Kairo a medium sized kfc bag, to take out what he wanted.
After doing so, he handed the bag back to her, mumbling a small, "thanks."
"Mhm." Sade replied curtly before taking out her zinger and unwrapping it.
They sat in awkward silence, Kairo watching Xanai and Sade-Lynn watching the one sided interaction between the two.
And she claims they're just friends. She thinks.
"He obviously loves her." Her subconscious adds.
Kairo's eyes held literally no life in them. And Sade-Lynn simply felt bad for him.
In that moment, Kairo wanted to kill every person he saw. Everyone except Xanai, that is. The only reason he hadn't killed Sade-Lynn is because he knows Xanai loves her.
"Kairo, you need to go home and sleep. Nai woulda mad yuh if she know seh yuh nah sleep, eat or do nun for that matter."
"Mi nuh need fi sleep, and a eat yuh si me a eat doh?"
He knew what she meant, and he knew she was right, he just didn't want to leave Xanai's side, in hopes she'd wake up.
They haven't told Xanai's parents of what happened to her, Kairo wanted to, but Sade-Lynn rebutted. Saying "they'd be livid. Let's just wait until she wakes up."
She honestly wanted the best, or so she thought. In her mind she was saving Xanai's parents tears and vocal cords.
But he didn't want to wait, he prioritizes Xanai's safety and her parents trust him.
Xanai wouldn't want them to know, thats for sure. She'd want to tell them months after it happened, in hopes they'd all just laugh about it.
The rhythmic beeping of the heart monitor was the only sound that filled the sterile room, a constant reminder of the fragile line between life and death. Kairo's gaze flickered between the monitor and Xanai's still form, his heart aching with every pulse of the machine. Each beep felt like a countdown, a reminder that time was slipping away, and he was powerless to stop it.
She glanced at Kairo, her heart aching for him. "You know, Nai would want you to take care of yourself," she said softly, her voice barely above a whisper.
Kairo's eyes flickered to her, a flash of irritation crossing his features. "Yuh tink mi nuh know dat?" he snapped, the edge in his tone surprising even himself. He quickly composed himself, realizing that Sade-Lynn was only trying to help. "Mi just...cyah leave har. What if she wake up and nuh see mi? Mi sure har parents wah see har- ALIVE and dem soon start call if dem nuh start already. Mi jus feel like e wull a dis a my fault. If mi did -"
"Doh seh dat please. Yuh Neva know, it done happen. What we have to do is be strong for her and pray she wakes up. With God, anything is possible." Sade-Lynn retorts.
Kairo nodded slowly, though the thought of leaving her side felt like a betrayal.
He envisioned the laughter they shared, the plans they made, and the dreams they spun together. He could almost hear her voice, teasing him about his stubbornness, urging him to take a break.
As if summoned by his thoughts, a soft groan escaped Xanai's lips. Kairo's heart raced, and he leaned closer, his breath hitching in his throat. "Nai?" he whispered, hope igniting within him.
Meanwhile...
"FINE! FINE, I-I'll talk!" Soriah screeched, pulling against the constricting ropes.
"Suh talk." Kyle's mother, Leah, demands.
"S-she- I- Well-" Leah then interrupts, "Talk bitch."
"Sh- I got some men to take her- again and they said she put up a fight, and was...extremely loud. By the time they drugged her-" Soriah paused, seeing Leah get even more irritated. "W-with the Thallium- it was too late as it already attracted a crowd... so they stabbed her and ran. One said she hit her head hard and they thought she was dead-but..."
"What? Shes not dead?!" Leah's voice shrieks in angst- well, more like anger.
"Suh- a me unu come fah todeh?" Leah asks, mostly to herself. "Somebody find har? Bring har weh? Hospital or nuhn?"
"Um it was in Kingston so probably a hospital in Kingston? Someone in annnn... Audi? I think... An Audi Q-6 E-tron or something of the sort?"
"A me yah ask? I gave you specific instructions and you did NOT complete the task!" Leah exclaims, taking the gun she stole out and taking it off safety.
"Anything else you affi seh, seh it now."
A wahm to dah old ooman yah man? Ooman a push 50 and deh yah wid gun. Soriah thinks.
"First thing, yuh think mi nuh see seh dah gun deh empty?" Soriah asks sarcastically.
"And second, yuh nah kill me, yuh need me fi anything and everything yah do, otherwise
Leah tilts her head to the side, and takes out a clip, inserting it into the gun.
"It nuh empty nuh more? Right?" She laughs hysterically.
"See yuh inna hell yah" Soriah smiles.
"Thats right." Leah replies curtly, emptying the entire clip into Soriah's body, most of them going through, killing her on spot.
Her body, though tied to a chair, naturally slumps and Leah waltzes over to the corner of the room, retrieving a bug bottle of acid. She steps over to Soriah's body and pours it all over the corpse.
Leah watched as the acid sizzled and hissed upon contact with Soriah's lifeless body, the pungent fumes filling the air. The sight was grotesque, but it brought her a twisted sense of satisfaction. She had always believed in taking matters into her own hands, and today was no different. Soriah had failed her, and now she would pay the ultimate price.
As the acid began to eat away at the flesh, Leah felt a surge of adrenaline coursing through her veins.
"If yuh wah sum done right, dweet yuh self." She speaks, seeking to fulfill her mission and avenge her sons.
