The room fell into stunned silence as the words hung heavy in the air.
Tyler's expression twisted in disbelief. "That's impossible," he choked out, his voice barely above a whisper.
"It's the truth, Mr. Ford," Zachary said firmly, each word deliberate. "You abandoned Charlie that day, leaving him late for his exam. He was barred from entering the school, and the stress triggered a severe asthma attack. He collapsed on the spot and had to be rushed to the hospital."
Zachary continued, "Mrs. Ford called me in a panic, begging for the emergency medication, but I didn't have clearance to release it. So I gave her your location."
Tyler's hand shook as he ended the call, unable to bear another word.
Because he already knew what came next.
His face drained of color. His gaze locked onto mine, hollow and shattered. "So… you weren't lying to me that day?" he whispered, his voice breaking.
I let out a raw, anguished cry, my voice thick with fury. "When have I ever lied to you about Charlie's life?"
At my words, Tyler's shoulders crumpled as if the weight of the world had crashed down on him. His once-proud posture collapsed, his eyes dull and empty.
Olivia stood frozen, her face ashen. "What… what is happening?" she stammered, her voice trembling.
The room was electric with tension, every pair of eyes fixed on me in stunned silence.
"You want to know what happened?" I spat, my glare burning into Olivia. "Then I'll tell you."
"Your precious son—this wonderful father—abandoned us on the most important day of Charlie's life. While Charlie and I were running, desperate to make it to his SAT exam, Tyler was driving off to find Joanna. While I was carrying my son into the ER, fighting to keep him alive, Tyler was playing nursemaid to a dog!"
My voice cracked with rage. "Charlie was dying. He needed Tyler's medication—just one dose, and he would have been okay. But when I called, begging for help, Tyler was too busy comforting Joanna to listen. I called him over and over, screaming into the phone, telling him Charlie was dying—and what did he do? He hung up. He turned off his damn phone!"
Tears streamed down my face as I relived the horror. "When I couldn't reach him, I left Charlie—my dying son—to find Tyler myself. I begged him, pleaded with him to believe me, to just give me the medicine—but he refused!"
I took a shuddering breath, my whole body trembling. "While Charlie took his last breaths… Tyler chose to save a dog's leg instead."
I locked eyes with Tyler, my voice dropping to a deadly whisper.
"You killed him."
