I screamed at the top of my lungs, my voice raw with anguish. Tears streamed down my face before I even realized I was crying. The thought of my precious son sent waves of unbearable pain through my body - it felt like my heart was being torn apart.
"How... how could this happen?" Olivia whispered, her face ghostly pale as she shook her head in shock. She turned mechanically toward Tyler, her voice trembling. "Tyler... is what Wendy said true?"
Tyler's face twisted in agony. "I... I thought she was making it up," he choked out before dropping his gaze, unable to defend himself any longer.
Hot tears burned down my cheeks as I glared at him through my grief. "Of course you didn't believe me! When Joanna claimed I was putting a curse on Charlie, you swallowed every word without question!" My voice broke. "Tyler, do you have any idea how hard Charlie worked? How excited he was for this exam? The night before his SATs, he told me with this bright smile that he was going to get into Stanford - that he couldn't wait to show you his acceptance letter and make you proud!"
I stepped closer, my whole body shaking. "You always said I wasn't fit to be Charlie's mother, but look at yourself! When was the last time you remembered his birthday? Could you even name his favorite food? His dreams? How many birthdays did you miss because Joanna needed you? How many times was he lying in a hospital bed while you held her hand instead?"
My voice dropped to a deadly whisper. "In all these years, between work and Joanna, did you ever really see our son? How dare you claim you cared about him? Tyler... he was your flesh and blood. Your own child. And you killed him."
