I exploded with rage, unleashing all my pent-up anger and grief.
My heart ached over Charlie's death—I mourned for him, for the life he'd lost.
Tyler stood there, utterly humiliated, his usual arrogance shattered. Tears welled in his eyes as he choked out, "I'm sorry… I—I should've been there for him. All these years, I kept telling myself there'd be time to make up for it. That I could fix things later. But now… now it's too late. God, I never meant for this to happen."
For the first time ever, Tyler—the proud, untouchable Tyler—was actually apologizing.
But it didn't matter anymore.
Charlie would never hear it.
"Save your apologies. They're worthless." My voice was raw, trembling. "If you'd just trusted me that day, Tyler, Charlie would still be alive. He had a chance. But you—you threw it away. And now you regret it? Now that he's gone?"
My chest felt like it was splitting open. The pain was unbearable. I'd never see Charlie's sweet smile again.
I hated Tyler for his cruelty.
But I hated myself even more—how could I have ever loved him?
Joanna, watching me unravel, finally stepped in, her voice dripping with fake concern. "Wendy, can't you see how much Tyler's suffering? Stop being so heartless!"
I didn't hesitate. My hand cracked across her face with a sharp slap.
"This is between me and Tyler. You don't get to play the righteous one here—not when you're the other woman!" My voice shook with fury. "Tyler's a fool, but you? You're just evil. Both of you killed Charlie!"
Before, I'd put up with Joanna's nonsense for Charlie's sake. But now? Now I was done.
Joanna staggered back, stunned. Then her shock twisted into rage. "You bitch—how dare you?!" She lunged at me, hand raised to strike back.
But Tyler caught her wrist, stopping her mid-swing.
Joanna whirled on him, furious. "She hit me, Tyler! And you're still defending her?!"
