"You little bitch, you promised to send me money! Why haven't you paid up? You know your dad almost got killed by loan sharks yesterday!"
Sophia angrily pried his hands off her.
"Then let them kill you! I don't care anymore!"
"You're always asking me for money—I don't have that kind of cash!"
"Bullshit! Didn't you hook up with some rich kid from the city? Harrison, right? He's loaded—why don't you ask him for money? If he won't give it to you, just sleep with him! Once isn't enough? Do it again and again until you've got him wrapped around your finger!"
"Easy for you to say—he already dumped me! I screwed over his wife so bad, put on act after act to fool him. He believed every lie, and even after they got divorced, he still went crawling back to her. Men are such bastards! They treat you one way before they sleep with you, then completely different after. Look, stop asking me for money. I'm broke, and I've got nothing left to give. I've been paying your debts for years and it's never enough! Worst case scenario, we all just die—I'm halfway there already anyway!"
Sophia's voice got louder as her anger built.
Blake heard every single word from outside the door.
His fists clenched, eyes blazing red with rage.
He kicked the door open with explosive force.
Sophia never expected to see him here.
Remembering what she'd just said, her blood ran cold and she shrank back in terror.
Blake walked toward them without saying a word.
"Who the hell are you? Why are you eavesdropping on me and my daughter?"
Blake kicked Sophia's father so hard he crashed to the floor, screaming.
Sophia tried to run, but Blake grabbed her and yanked her back.
She completely broke down, sobbing. "I'm sorry! I'm so sorry, Blake! I didn't mean any of it—everything I said was bullshit! Please don't believe me!" She was practically groveling.
But Blake seemed to have gone deaf. He raised his hand and started hitting her face, slap after brutal slap.
Each blow was cold, methodical—like he'd become some kind of killing machine.
By the time Marcus found them, Sophia was spitting up blood.
A crowd had formed around the chaos, and Blake's fists were soaked red.
Blood spatter covered his face too. Marcus went white with shock.
"Blake, Jesus Christ—"
Before he could finish, cops burst through the crowd.
Blake was dragged away in handcuffs while paramedics rushed Sophia and her father to the ER.
The whole brutal scene got filmed and posted all over social media.
The entire city was going insane with the news.
Ethan, vacationing abroad with Riley, obviously heard about it too.
Sophia had screwed Riley over so many times—Ethan wasn't about to let that slide.
While Riley was in the pool, Ethan quietly called his assistant with some very specific instructions.
When Riley came back from her swim, he could tell from her face that she'd seen the headlines.
Ethan didn't know what to say. Blake and Riley had decades of history together.
Even if they couldn't make it work as a couple, Blake had been there for Riley during some of her darkest times.
But Riley seemed surprisingly unaffected. She set her phone aside and headed for the shower.
When she came out, Marcus was calling.
Sophia's father had died from his injuries, and Sophia herself had suffered a brain hemorrhage that left her in a vegetative state.
Blake was going to prison.
He'd begged Marcus to pass along a message.
He wanted to see Riley one more time before they locked him up.
