Veda, stop being unreasonable. This meeting is really important. For the first time, Adam's voice carried a hint of panic. "Besides, I can't get home from the office in ten minutes."
Veda only replied coldly, "The timer starts now."
Then she hung up the phone.
Not long after, Daisy was thrown out of the car, disheveled. Adam drove the car as if it were a plane; the car vanished from the garage in the blink of an eye.
Only Daisy was left, half-naked, clutching her belongings, standing in the garage with a face full of humiliation.
Veda adjusted her seat, got comfortable, and turned on her car lights.
Her headlights shone directly on Daisy.
In an instant, the filth hidden in the darkness was exposed. Daisy panicked and covered herself, shouting, "Who's there? Who's that?!"
Veda ignored her, driving past Daisy in a sleek motion.
But through the open car window, Daisy caught a glimpse of Veda's cold, stunning profile. She lost her composure, screaming insults, "Old hag! You think this means you've beaten me? Dream on! Your husband's long since gotten tired of you! He told me more than once that your fattened figure disgusts him!"
All that answered Daisy was a cloud of filthy exhaust.
Veda drove home.
Inside, Adam—unable to find her—was in a rage. "Useless fools! You don't even know where my wife is? What use are you to me?"
Veda walked silently into the living room. The moment Adam saw her, his rage vanished. He rushed over, pulled her into his arms, and said with lingering fear, "Veda, thank goodness you're still here. I thought you'd really left. You scared me to death."
Veda looked up at him, her tone unreadable. "Are you really that afraid of me disappearing?"
"Of course!" Adam didn't hesitate. "Veda, you're the most important person in my life. I can't lose you—especially now that you're carrying my child. I really can't lose you."
His voice was so sincere, his gaze so loving.
If she hadn't witnessed him and Daisy in that car just now, Veda might have almost believed him.
Veda, promise me you'll never leave me. Adam held her hand tightly, his voice tinged with anxiety. "I can't live without you. If I lost you, I'd go crazy."
A dense, stabbing pain spread through her chest. Veda's eyes reddened. Then why cheat?
Entangled with another woman, yet swearing he can't lose me... Adam, which of your words are true? Which are lies?
"Why are you crying?" Noticing her red eyes, Adam panicked. He looked at her with pain heart, soothing her. "Who upset my Veda? Tell me, and I'll settle the score right away."
Veda shook her head. "It's nothing. Just pregnancy hormones."
But Adam wasn't reassured. He insisted on calling a doctor to examine her.
Yet when the doctor arrived, Adam seemed distracted, glancing at his phone repeatedly.
Each time, the desire in his eyes deepened.
Veda understood, Daisy was probably texting him.
Soon, Veda received a message from Daisy too.
[Pregnant cow, bet I can make your husband drop everything and run to me right now?]
She had just finished reading when Adam, unable to wait, said, "Veda, there's an emergency at the company. I have to go back..."
Veda grabbed him instinctively. "Adam, don't go. My belly hurts. I'm scared. Stay with me, please?"
Adam looked troubled. Then his phone vibrated again. Whatever Daisy had sent, after reading it, he pulled his hand from Veda's grasp, smiling to comfort her.
"Dr. Mills is here—you'll be fine. Besides, I'm no doctor. Staying won't help. Be good and listen to the doctor. I'll be back soon."
With that, he left Veda behind, hurrying off to meet his lover.
In that moment, Veda's heart died completely.
Fighting back tears, she took out her phone and texted her older brother—who worked in the military, "...Brother, I want to disappear. Completely."
