My struggles and fights only made Dante hate me more.
During one blowout fight, he didn't hold back:
"You're just like your mom—selfish as hell, never giving anyone a fucking break. Sophia's doing everything she can to make peace, but you still won't let up. You really should just die."
Those words stuck with me for years.
When I took Emma and left him, he and Sophia made sure to rub their happiness in my face every chance they got.
I was miserable, completely broken, but eventually I made peace with it.
I thought Emma and I could make it on our own. Just the two of us.
I never thought Dante would go this far.
Of course I hated him. I wanted the bastard dead.
But as everything flashed through my mind, all I could think was:
"God, it hurts. It hurts so bad. Dante, please save me."
Just like when I was eighteen and he came out of nowhere, ready to die protecting me.
But this time? He never showed up.
With what little strength I had left, I hit record.
Dante's eyes were red and his hands were shaking as he opened that video.
Sophia's mother's face popped up on screen.
"Still think you can steal Sophia's man? Dream on, bitch. Get it through your head—you'll never be half the woman she is. She belongs with a CEO, and you belong here getting gang-banged by losers."
"You and your mommy are just unwanted whores."
After the guys finished with me, they went crawling to Sophia's mom for their cash. She acted like some kind of queen:
"My daughter's fucking a Sterling. This chump change means nothing. Once she wires me some real money, you idiots will be set for life."
Earlier in the video, it showed them grabbing me outside the hospital.
I was practically on my knees:
"I'll give you whatever you want! Please, just let me go—my little girl's dying!"
I'd already sent them the money, but they weren't having it.
"Sorry lady, we got orders. Can't let you go till the boss gives us the green light. Figured we'd have some fun with you while we wait. Play nice, and maybe we won't hurt you too bad."
My screams mixed with their sick laughter.
Dante couldn't sit still anymore.
He was shaking as he yelled at his assistant:
"Bring me Sophia and her mother—I want them here NOW!"
When they dragged the two women into Dante's office, they still didn't have a clue.
Sophia was practically bouncing with excitement.
"Dante, you found a match, didn't you? I knew Tyler was special! God's watching over him. Even without that crazy bitch, he's gonna be fine."
Sophia's mom Linda was even more hyped up.
"That's why you brought me here! This kind of amazing news deserves a real celebration. I'll book us a fancy place later—we haven't all been together in forever, and I've been dying to see Tyler!"
"Honestly, I'm glad that psycho isn't donating to our boy. She's poison—I wouldn't want her nasty bone marrow anywhere near my grandson. This is perfect! Clean donor, everybody wins!"
Linda was grinning ear to ear, totally missing how Dante's face was getting darker and darker.
He looked at both women with ice in his eyes and clicked play on the laptop.
Linda's face popped up on the video screen. She instantly knew she was screwed and her face went white:
"Someone's setting me up! This is fake—it's deepfake shit! I'd never do anything like this. It wasn't me!"
Sophia jumped right in:
"My mom's a saint—she wouldn't hurt a fly. Has to be Celeste's psycho mother trying to frame us. You know how it's always been, Dante—Mom's the victim here. She's still getting attacked even now!"
Dante laughed, but there was no humor in it.
"Oh yeah? If it's all bullshit and you're innocent, let's hand this over to the cops. They'll sort out the truth real quick."
"DON'T!"
Both women screamed it at the same time. Dante had his answer.
Sophia knew she was totally fucked and started the waterworks.
"Mom was just looking out for me and Tyler! Any grandma would snap seeing her grandson get tortured like that. She didn't mean for things to get so crazy."
"My whole life's been hell, and now even Tyler's paying for my mistakes."
Linda collapsed to her knees, shaking.
"I swear I didn't mean for it to go that far! I just wanted to scare her a little, but then... she was actually getting into it! She told me... she said it was the best she'd ever felt..."
CRACK. Dante's hand whipped across Linda's face.
"Even with death staring you in the face, you're still trying to trash Celeste with your sick lies?!"
