That thirty percent stake in Harrison Industries was Blake's wedding gift to her.
Now he was ripping it away and gifting it to Sophia instead.
The woman in his arms was practically vibrating with excitement, but she kept up her innocent act.
"Blake, I can't take something this huge from Riley. Everyone knows that thirty percent was your grandmother's final wish—for her grandson's wife. I don't deserve—"
"Yes, you do." Blake's voice went soft and warm in a way Riley had never heard.
"You're the most important person in my world. Riley was just... a emergency solution."
A emergency solution.
Riley felt like she'd been punched in the gut.
She bit her lip so hard she tasted copper.
Then she started laughing.
"Right. I was the emergency solution. Those shares were never really mine anyway."
"And this bag—last year's birthday present from Blake. It's yours now."
"The necklace, the bracelet..."
Riley moved methodically, taking off every piece of jewelry, every accessory Blake had ever given her.
She turned her designer purse inside out, keeping only her personal items and stuffing all of Blake's gifts inside.
Then she walked slowly toward Blake and Sophia.
And placed the Hermès bag in Sophia's lap who stared at it in shock.
After that, Riley took a shaky breath and forced a smile.
"It's all yours now."
Blake Harrison too.
Blake's face went dark and said:
"What the hell is wrong with you?"
"Get your shit together and stop freaking Sophia out!"
With that, he kicked the designer bag away from Sophia like it was trash.
The limited edition purse hit the floor and skidded across the tiles.
Then he scooped up Sophia in his arms and walked away.
After they left, Riley's stomach cramped so violently she collapsed to her knees.
Tears streamed down her face as the pain doubled her over.
She remembered the night that Blake asked her to marry him.
On their wedding day, when he'd kissed her at the altar, she'd trembled and closed her eyes.
Nobody could have understood what that moment meant to her.
Blake's warm hand on her cheek, that crooked smile as he looked at her flushed face.
"Huh. Never knew you were such a good kisser, Riley."
She'd loved him so pathetically, for so long.
Every thoughtless gift he'd given her became a treasure she'd guard with her life.
Now, looking at all those things scattered on the hospital floor, they felt like rocks someone had thrown at her until she bled.
The day Riley got discharged, she went straight to the lawyer's office.
She had him draft a stock transfer agreement and asked about finalizing the divorce.
The lawyer told her they could pick up the decree in ten days.
Riley nodded and took the paperwork straight to Harrison Industries.
When she placed both her resignation letter and the stock transfer on Blake's desk, he leaned back in his chair and steeled his fingers.
"Riley, it's just an apology. How hard can it be?"
She stood there, her nails digging crescents into her palms.
She said calmly.
"Blake, because of Sophia's screw-up, 999 intimate photos of me got leaked to the entire company. Even though you shut down the gossip, I'm still completely humiliated. Everyone's whispering about me, making up stories, while you—my secret husband—get to walk away clean. Don't I deserve a real apology from you and Sophia?"
Blake's dark eyes bored into her for a long moment.
Finally, he picked up his pen and scrawled his signature across the documents.
"You've changed."
He tossed the pen aside, the words coming out cold and flat.
Riley's smile was broken, but she didn't say another word.
She grabbed her copies and headed for the door.
Blake, I'm exactly the same.
You just never cared enough to actually see me.
