Arthur repeated the name, "Aria? Is she famous?"
"Of course she's famous!" The guy replied while glancing back to make sure Aria and her friends were gone. Only then did he continue, "Aria is the real daughter of the Saxon family, the one they found in the countryside."
He explained, "She's severed ties with the Saxon family and is the largest shareholder in Stars Group, as well as a professor at Kerano Global Health. Last winter break, she led volunteers in pandemic relief and created a treatment combining traditional and modern medicine. Many of her students received postgraduate study recommendations."
He continued, "Mr. Schmidt chased after her for ages before she finally agreed to join Mandino University to supervise a class of grad students. She only handles the experimental side, but her hands-on ability is top-tier. Working with her is practically a guaranteed win."
He added, "I just don't get what those applying for the pharmaceutical analysis program at Mandino University were thinking. Everyone picked other advisors. I heard both of Aria's students came in through reassignment."
Someone raised a hand. "I know why. Rumor has it that Culver also contributed to the traditional-modern medicine research, but he had a falling-out with Aria and got kicked off the team. Later, he became the head of Todd School and didn't deny the rumors when asked, which angered the volunteer students."
Aria was only twenty-three, the same age as the students, yet she was their advisor.
After struggling for years to get this far, most students didn't want to take a risk. To play it safe, they chose other mentors.
"Some students recommended for grad school knew there weren't enough spots under Aria. They wanted to switch advisors but couldn't due to university restrictions. If they weren't worried about upsetting their current advisors and jeopardizing graduation, they would have protested."
If Aria weren't truly capable, these students wouldn't be this desperate to follow her. Now, a lot of them were starting to question whether they'd chosen the wrong path.
Listening to the discussion about Aria, Arthur wore a complicated expression.
As a Mandino University student, everyone knew who Aria was. Arthur had heard of her but had never seen her photo.
He never expected that the girl who went to the Neon Nightclub that night and asked for a male model was Aria.
He'd assumed she was some rich girl from a wealthy family.
Arthur suddenly felt lucky he was in the computer science department and not in the same lab building as her. He probably wouldn't run into her.
Thinking back to how he'd taken the initiative that night, he wished he could go back in time and slap himself.
If Arthur had known Aria was a professor, he wouldn't have dared flirt with her. Thank god she hadn't touched his abs.
Arthur held his forehead and sighed deeply.
At the restaurant, Owen noticed that Aria's expression hadn't changed. He was relieved she hadn't recognized that guy, and he smiled without realizing it.
Aria noticed his smile and tilted her head. "What are you smiling about?"
"Just thought of something funny." Owen pulled out a chair and gestured for her to sit.
Aria thought he was acting strange, but didn't press further.
After dinner, Owen drove Ella back to her rental apartment.
Aria turned around and said, "Wait for me a bit. I'll walk Ella home."
All three responded in unison, "Okay."
Ella quickly declined, "No need. It's just a short walk."
Aria unbuckled her seatbelt and got out. "Let's go."
Seeing she couldn't refuse, Ella thanked her.
To save money, Ella had rented a place a little off the beaten path. The complex didn't have a security gate, and there were no streetlights. She could only use the flashlight on her phone.
In the dark, Ella's face turned slightly red. "My budget's tight, so I had to go with a cheaper place."
