At the familiar parking lot, Owen got out of the car holding an umbrella and walked over to open the door on the other side.
He shielded Aria by his side as they walked inside.
"Aria." A raspy male voice blended with the sound of rain. "Let's talk."
Aria didn't turn around. She didn't even pause.
Seeing her about to leave, Liam hurriedly said, "Five minutes. After this, I won't use the project as an excuse to disturb you again."
Aria stopped in her tracks.
Owen's fingers tightened slightly. His face darkened briefly, but he quickly recovered. "Want to go talk to him?"
Aria reached out to grip the umbrella handle, gently squeezing his fingertips. In a soft voice, she said, "Can you wait for me inside?"
She was going to talk to Liam.
Owen lowered his eyes and looked at her. He nodded, handing the umbrella to her. "It's cold. Don't take too long. If he bothers you again, I'll deal with him in my own way."
Aria smiled gently. "Okay."
She took the umbrella, walked forward a couple of steps, and watched Owen turn and enter the building.
His figure was tall and upright, yet inexplicably carried a trace of loneliness.
Something in her heart softened.
Thinking of the man behind her, Aria's face grew colder. She turned around and walked toward him.
Under the dim lights, her cold expression looked even sharper. "Liam, this is the last time."
Even as she met him with such coldness, Liam still couldn't control his racing heartbeat. He realized that falling for Aria was far too easy.
The first time he saw her, she looked gentle but carried a distant air, making people hesitate to get close.
Later, he proposed marriage so he could go abroad. They got their marriage certificate hastily.
Maybe he went wrong from that very moment. One wrong step, then everything else followed.
Now she had someone better by her side. If he didn't ask for her forgiveness now, there would be no more chances.
"Aria..." Liam choked out.
He stepped forward until there was just one meter between them and stopped. He dropped his umbrella and knelt.
The assistant sitting in the driver's seat vaguely saw this and quickly turned on the wipers to see more clearly.
'Damn it! I can't hear a thing!' he thought, frustrated at missing out on the drama.
Inside the building, Owen stood not far away, coldly watching this scene. Even though he knew what he feared wouldn't happen, he still felt awful.
Liam knelt on one knee. Rain drenched him instantly.
Aria took a step back, lowering her gaze to calmly look at him.
Liam said, "I was wrong. The person who pulled me out from death was you."
He looked up at her, the corners of his eyes red, letting the rain wash over his face. "Please forgive me."
Aria's expression was indifferent. "I forgive you. And then?"
Liam's Adam's apple bobbed. "I... I want to start over and pursue you again."
"Pursue me?" Aria repeated his words, then laughed softly, her voice full of mockery. "Liam, didn't you feel disgusted saying that out loud?"
"What...?" Liam's face flashed with stunned disbelief.
Aria stared directly at him, her gaze icy. "I'm honestly curious. What gave you such confidence?"
She continued, "That self-righteous 'deep affection' is the most nauseating thing. You're a filthy man who cheated. What makes you think I'd forgive you?"
Rain blurred his vision, so Liam couldn't see her face clearly, but her cold voice cut through the storm.
Liam stammered, "You... you liked me once, didn't you?"
She once liked him. This was the only thing giving him the courage to try again.
"When did I ever like you?" Aria asked flatly.
