I had barely taken off my coat when Knox embraced me from behind.
He rested his head lazily on my shoulder.
"Don't overthink it. There's no chance between Mila and me anymore."
I nodded perfunctorily, having no desire to speak.
Knox watched as I lay down on my own, clearly surprised:
"You haven't taken your prenatal vitamins or applied your stretch mark oil yet."
Being three months pregnant, I had numerous supplements to take daily.
But with surgery scheduled for tomorrow, what difference did it make whether I took them now or not?
However, my behavior angered Knox:
"Don't neglect the baby just because you're sulking! You're really going to such extremes to drive Mila away!"
Faced with Knox's malicious assumption, I had no reaction whatsoever.
I simply turned over silently and closed my eyes to sleep.
Knox seemed to watch me for a long time before finally sighing and turning off the light.
My brother had left. This house was where he grew up.
But after Knox and I married, the family gave it to us as a wedding gift.
And tonight, Mila successfully reclaimed her original bedroom.
At midnight, I woke up with a parched throat.
As I fumbled in the dark to get water, I spotted two familiar silhouettes in the hallway.
Mila's voice was filled with resentment: "You promised that only I would be the Calloway daughter."
"I've never let her into your room at the house—it's always been yours."
Mila complained bitterly: "Then why is she pregnant?"
Knox was silent for a few seconds before sighing. "I was careless that day. I forgot to put the pills in her drink."
My nails dug deep into my palms as chills ran down my spine.
No wonder it took three years of marriage to get pregnant, during which I endured the nickname "barren hen."
Mila probed cautiously: "So the baby…"
As if knowing what she was about to say, Knox interrupted sharply: "No. This is my child."
Mila looked dissatisfied but seeing his icy stare, she reluctantly fell silent.
Knox suddenly announced: "I got you an apartment. You're moving there in a couple days."
Mila's face instantly paled. She stared at Knox intently.
Her voice rose shrilly: "Why?! Is it because of Piper…"
"It's not her. It's my decision. She's pregnant, and I don't want anything to upset her."
Mila was stunned. Looking at Knox's face, she realized something had fundamentally changed.
Panic seized her, so she lunged forward and kissed him.
Knox was shocked for a moment and immediately tried to push her away.
But the next moment, Mila grabbed his hand and placed it on her breast.
"Don't worry," she purred. "She's sound asleep. She won't find out."
"You must be so frustrated with her being pregnant for so long."
Knox's eyes clouded with momentary confusion. Sensing her advantage, Mila pressed forward, and within seconds, they ignited like gasoline meeting flame.
Witnessing this scene, I felt no ripples in my heart.
I simply drained my glass of water and silently returned to the bedroom.
