I paused, instantly turning to look.
Knox stared at the pitiful Mila beneath me, his face livid.
My brother pushed me away and carefully lifted Mila into his arms.
Their eyes didn't register my presence, just like three years ago.
Mila sobbed continuously, covering her face and trembling all over.
Knox was heartbroken. When he turned to look at me, hatred flashed briefly in his eyes.
"Apologize!" he demanded.
My eyes stung with tears as I stammered: "Do you know what they did…"
But before I could finish, he coldly interrupted:
"I said apologize!"
My brother's patience had reached its limit. He grabbed a glass and smashed it at my feet.
"Stop playing the victim and fucking apologize now!"
I stood rigidly in place, my head buzzing.
They hadn't seen the clothes scattered on the floor or the humiliating video.
They had only seen my raised hand.
Everything went silent.
Only Mila and her friends exchanged gleeful looks, while the household staff sighed helplessly.
This home had never belonged to me, not even for a second.
I smiled, but it was only with resignation.
Seeing me calmly turning to leave, the butler suddenly tried to speak up in my defense.
But in the next second...
Knox and my brother's voices rang out simultaneously:
"Don't stop her! Let her go!"
"We've spoiled her rotten these past few years! She doesn't know her place anymore!"
"If she won't listen, she can go back to that family!"
They knew exactly where to strike to cause the most pain. The people closest to you always know precisely where to thrust the knife.
Yet I had no reaction whatsoever. I simply walked calmly out of the mansion and got into the car heading to the hospital.
With the doctor's confirmation, I decisively signed my name.
But the next moment, Knox and my brother's phones began ringing frantically.
As if they sensed what was happening, they were desperately trying to make amends.
But I ignored them, turning off my phone.
When the anesthesia flowed into my body, I felt no fear—only release.
Meanwhile, in the mansion's great hall, Knox Harrington and Jayden Calloway wore uncharacteristically serious expressions.
After a while, Knox turned to ask: "Any word from Piper yet?"
Jayden was equally irritated: "You've asked every damn minute. Can't you see she's not answering my calls either?"
Knox's face grew increasingly grim as he stood abruptly.
"What time is it now? She's being so childish. We just say a few harsh words and she throws this massive tantrum?"
His gaze fell to the side, where he had carefully folded all the scattered clothes.
He and Jayden had picked them up together.
Both men deeply regretted their outburst and harsh words.
Now they were competing to see who felt worse.
Just then, Mila approached carrying two glasses of whiskey.
"Jayden, Knox, have a drink to take the edge off."
In the past, the three of them loved drinking together, those moments of unparalleled intimacy impossible to forget.
But to her surprise, both men immediately shook their heads.
They answered in unison: "I quit drinking."
Mila froze instantly.
Before she could ask why, they both stood up and headed for the door.
"Where are you going?" she demanded, blocking their path.
Knox explained impatiently: "To find Piper. She's been gone for hours and isn't answering her phone."
Mila clenched her teeth, her face still stinging with pain.
She was consumed with hatred, but forced herself to appear calm:
"She just stepped out for a bit. It's not a big deal."
Jayden sighed, adding: "But she's not answering her phone. She's pregnant, for God's sake—she shouldn't be wandering around alone."
The two men who once adored her now both spoke up for this other woman.
Mila's jealousy reached its peak, her face twisting with rage as she blurted out:
"It's just one of her little games! All women do this—playing hard to get. What's the big issue?"
