As soon as she spoke, Knox's face darkened.
Without wasting another word, he pushed past her and headed for the door.
Mila went berserk, grabbing his collar desperately.
Pointing at her face, she demanded: "She beat my face like this, and you're forgiving her so easily?"
"She's my wife," Knox said softly, his gaze falling on the marks. "If you and your friends hadn't provoked her repeatedly, would she have ever hit you?"
Mila's mind went blank, unable to believe these words had come from his mouth.
Where was the Knox who had always shielded her from every storm, who had stood unconditionally by her side?
Tears welled in her eyes as she spoke with bitter resentment:
"You've both changed! You were never like this before."
In the past, they never cared about reasons—she was reason enough.
But now, even though Knox and Jayden still favored her, their actions invariably considered that... that bitch!
What was so special about her? She had ruined Mila's life.
Before turning eighteen, Mila had been the golden princess who never worried about money.
After eighteen, she plummeted into the gutter, with even those who once kissed her feet now stepping on her.
If something wasn't meant to be hers, why had she been allowed to possess it?
And if it had been given, why couldn't it remain hers forever?
The resentment of the past few years burned in her heart, and in this moment, Mila voiced all her questions.
Knox laughed: "You think you've had it rough? What about Piper? Hasn't she suffered enough?"
"Her real family was stolen from her by your con artist parents. She endured eighteen years of abuse for no reason."
"You enjoyed eighteen years of privilege as a swan instead of a duckling, and instead of gratitude, you harbor hatred."
Knox carefully recalled the events of the past few years, finding them increasingly absurd.
"What good is your bitterness? When you ran off with that race car driver, you took seven million dollars from me. I've been more than generous with you."
"Yes, I loved you, but so what? I fell in love with Piper too. You're not as important as you think you are. I also…"
Before finishing, he stopped himself upon seeing her tear-streaked face.
Knox averted his gaze, roughly tugging at his tie.
Jayden wearily rubbed his face and pulled Mila into his arms:
"Mila, you need to grow up. No one will tolerate you forever—everyone's patience has limits."
Mila remained furious: "Why can't you just admit you've changed? Clearly…"
Jayden interrupted her: "There is no 'why.' Changed or not, nobody owes you anything. No rule says people can't change—you've changed too, haven't you?"
"You've become selfish and manipulative, full of lies, to the point where I barely recognize you. Yet I still consider you my sister. But people can't live in the past forever, trapped in imagined grievances."
Jayden looked deeply into her eyes, hoping the sister he had cherished for eighteen years would understand his good intentions.
But he was disappointed.
Mila only glared at him venomously as she mocked: "Spare me your lectures! I believe what I see with my own eyes. If you favor that bitch Piper, just say so. I knew your kindness was all fake!"
"I don't care—if you go looking for her today, you'll never see me again!"
Mila screamed, her voice echoing through every corner of the mansion.
Knox's face turned ashen. With a cold laugh, he pushed her aside and walked out.
Jayden, thoroughly disappointed, followed close behind.
Mila stood frozen, and by the time she regained her senses, both men had vanished without a trace.
