One month later, Ethan returned to the firm.
His assistant was already waiting at the door.
"Mr. James, this case is quite complex. The client is the defendant, and the opposing side has solid evidence proving the client's misconduct..."
Ethan frowned: "Why did we accept such a case?"
The assistant faltered, speaking cautiously: "It's a friend of our senior partner. We couldn't refuse."
Ethan rubbed his forehead and took the file from his assistant's hand.
Just a casual glance revealed several alarming keywords.
'Drugged' 'Legal wife' 'Surveillance'
Ethan instinctively turned to the next page, where Sophia's name jumped out at him.
By then, he had reached his office door and came face to face with Nathan, who had just stood up.
Nathan's face instantly darkened: "Why is it you?"
Ethan's eyes turned cold: "Does Mr. Wade have a problem with me?"
The office seemed to flash with the glint of crossing swords, leaving the clueless assistant breaking out in a cold sweat.
He quickly tried to mediate: "Mr. James, Mr. Wade, let's sit down and discuss this properly. Let me brief you on the case."
Nathan suppressed his temper and sat down, gesturing for the assistant to speak.
"On the evening of June 8th at 8:23 PM, Mr. Wade had someone escort the intoxicated Ms. Reed to room 3102 at the Hans Hotel..."
"Wait!"
Ethan suddenly interrupted his assistant, dark eyes flashing with hidden turmoil: "What room number did you say?"
"Room 3102."
BANG!
Ethan abruptly stood up, the movement so forceful that even the coffee table shifted.
He glared coldly at Nathan, enunciating each word: "Show Mr. Wade out. Stellar Law Firm doesn't accept scumbags as clients!"
The assistant looked troubled: "Mr. James, the senior partner..."
Ethan was already heading for the door.
"This case is impossible to win. Tell him if he insists on taking it, I'll leave Stellar immediately!"
Ethan had never felt his heart beat so fast.
He got into his car, fumbling several times before managing to insert the key into the ignition.
Room 3102. Sophia Reed.
These two elements combined made the string of rationality in his mind snap completely.
How was this possible? Hadn't Victoria said she was the woman that night? How had it become Sophia?
Without further thought, Ethan drove straight to Sophia's residence.
Just as he parked, he ran into Liam and another man walking out, laughing and talking.
He froze in place.
At that moment, Liam also spotted him and immediately adopted a sarcastic tone.
"Well, if it isn't the great lawyer James. What brings you here? Don't tell me you're looking for our Sophia?"
Ethan frowned slightly without responding and was about to walk inside.
Liam grew angry and grabbed his arm.
"Back then you wouldn't listen to any explanation before breaking up, and now you want to find Sophia? Isn't that a bit late?"
Ethan gave him a cold look: "She was in the wrong first."
Liam pressed his tongue against his cheek.
"What did she do wrong? Helping me take a fake photo to fool my parents was wrong? Or secretly checking on you after the breakup was wrong?"
"Do you know how pathetic she was during that time, calling your name every time she got drunk? If you'd just listened to her explanation once, you two would have kids old enough to talk by now!"
"Aren't you supposed to be on your honeymoon with your wife? Why the hell are you here looking for her now?!"
Liam was so angry he couldn't control his words, growing increasingly offensive. Only the constant soothing from the man beside him gradually stabilized his emotions.
"Ethan James, you're too late. Sophia's gone abroad."
Having said this, as if no longer wanting to engage, he walked away.
In the deserted parking lot, only Ethan's lonely figure remained standing in the shadowy area by the elevator, motionless for a long time.
