He didn't finish, but Sophia understood.
She felt incredulous and laughed bitterly: "No wonder..."
No wonder Ethan kept stopping her from seeing Jamie.
So everything was connected to Jamie's mother.
"Where is she now? Can I see her?"
"You..." Ethan hesitated, unsure of her intentions.
"Do you really feel comfortable leaving Jamie with someone like that?"
Regardless of her motives—from misleading Sophia years ago about her marriage to Ethan, to now facing the consequences of her actions—Jamie's mother had proven herself malicious.
Such a person couldn't possibly raise a child well.
"Are you suggesting..."
"I'm not suggesting anything. As a lawyer, you should know what to do."
Ethan didn't respond, and Sophia couldn't discern his thoughts.
Since he was unwilling, Sophia didn't press further. In the end, she never met Jamie's mother.
During Mia's hospital stay, Liam rallied the entire company to make the room livelier.
Several groups came daily to visit Sophia and Mia.
Mia's melancholy over her immobility was dispelled by these uncles and aunts.
Liam had her laughing non-stop. Even after he left, Mia still giggled with the toys he'd brought.
That evening, Sophia organized her toys, preparing her for bedtime.
The little one lay in bed, covering half her face with the blanket, only her big eyes visible.
"Mommy, even though Uncle Liam is great, I think I like Daddy... I mean, Mr. James better."
Mia's eyes darted rapidly, observing Sophia's reaction as she quickly corrected herself.
Sophia couldn't help but smile: "Do you like him a lot?"
Mia nodded, her small hands fidgeting nervously.
"Can I call him Daddy?"
Sophia's heart ached sharply. Because of her, Mia had to be so cautious about calling her own father "Daddy."
She criticized Jamie's mother for being an unfit parent, but was she herself any better?
She sat on the edge of the bed, stroking Mia's head: "Mia, before you call him Daddy, Mommy needs to tell you something."
"He's only Jamie's uncle, not her daddy."
Mia's eyes sparkled with hope: "So is he only my daddy?"
Sophia's nose tingled as she kissed Mia's forehead: "Yes, he's only your daddy, and both Mommy and Daddy love you very much."
After putting Mia to sleep, Sophia took the initiative to message Ethan.
[Come to the hospital tomorrow. Mia says she wants to see you.]
He replied almost instantly, as if waiting for her: [Okay.]
Early the next morning, Ethan arrived at the hospital, bringing breakfast for both them.
The pair were forced to groggily wake up and eat.
After the doctor checked Mia, Sophia led Ethan to her bedside.
"Mia." Ethan was completely bewildered when he heard Sophia tell Mia: "Call him Daddy."
Mia was a bit shy, her voice soft: "Daddy."
Sophia suddenly felt like crying. She had finally enabled Mia to openly call "Daddy." She was no longer an incomplete child.
Ethan was stunned, quickly tearing up. He hugged Mia tightly, yet carefully to avoid hurting her.
After six years, he could finally embrace his daughter.
"We should get the marriage license soon. Mia needs to be officially registered."
Ethan abruptly stood, for the first time looking flustered in front of Sophia.
He kept adjusting his posture, carefully embracing her, his voice choked: "Thank you, thank you."
Seeing her daughter's genuine happiness, unlike any previous joy, Sophia couldn't help but tear up.
She should also thank Ethan.
Thank him for giving Mia a complete life.
"Ethan, Mia and I thank you too."
