                    Holy fucking shit.
Melody barely had enough time to register that the gorgeous stranger she’d spied across the room, who’d been trembling and breathing heavily, now had her in his steely arms and was kissing the life out of her in front of everyone.
Well, she knew he was a Shifter. But even her keen sense of smell couldn’t discern what kind. He smelled powerful. Full of magic, as opposed to animal. An avian Shifter perhaps? How could she think when he was possessing her mouth with his own?
He was tall and powerfully built. She noted his pale green eyes and thick, dark hair, the first time his gaze collided with hers. After that, it was kind of a blur. He’d moved with incredible speed. Grasping her by the hand and slamming her body into his.
Her Coyote practically drooled over his manly show of dominance. Get a grip. And she did, on his enormous shoulders. Holy crap. His body was corded with sinewy muscles. She felt them rippling against her much softer frame as he walked her backwards into the hallway, his lips never letting up for one single moment.
She threw her arms around his thick neck. To keep herself from falling, she told herself. Yeah. Right. Melody knew she shouldn’t be doing this, but she couldn’t stop herself from responding either. He was a total stranger. A sexy as all hell stranger, she corrected.
He growled deep in his throat. He wound his tongue around hers, caressing it and her with his lips, and tongue, and teeth. It was driving her wild with need. His kiss was insistent, but tender, as if he were savoring her. Bullshit. He doesn’t even know me. He must be either crazy, drunk, or under some spell. She’d heard the Faeries in the office threatening to spike the food if they didn’t get paid vacation time this year.
Fuck. That must be it. She attempted to pull back, but his arms tightened around her. Her breasts were crushed against his hard chest. Her nipples tingled through the fabric as if she were bare against him, despite the built-in bra.
She appreciated a well-built man. Always had. And boy, was he built really well. His large, strong hands gripped her around her waist and back as he firmly continued to suckle at her oh-so-willing mouth.
This was one of those greatest-movie-kisses-of-all-time things. The kind where the hero storms the castle to get his woman at the end of the movie and they live happily ever after. Where they kissed like they were dying for each other. So romantic. And so very fucking wrong.
She was no movie damsel, and this wasn’t her happy ending. But it could be, her Coyote whispered in her mind’s eye. Horny bitch.
No. Must stop. This time she pushed against his chest with a little more force. Using the strength of her Coyote. Melody straightened her shoulders and looked into his glowing green eyes. She could sense his confusion and sought to address it immediately. Before this gets any more out of control.
“I’m sorry,” she began.
“Don’t be, we can pick right back up,” he murmured and bent to kiss her again.
“No. No, none of that,” she said and turned her head to avoid his masterful lips.
That was a mistake. He found the exposed skin of her neck and proceeded to kiss, lick, and suck. Oh fuuuckk. Shivers ran up and down her spine. Heat pooled in her stomach and traveled straight down to her pussy. Then he went and bit down, not hard enough to break skin but her needy clit twitched in response.
Fuuckkkk meeee.
She moaned against his seeking lips as he made his way back up to her mouth. He tasted spicy with an edge that bordered on fantasy. Totally out of her league, she wanted to banish the hateful thought that crept into her mind.
As if sensing her doubt, he increased the pressure of his lips. She swallowed harshly as his hands found the skin at the opening in the back of her dress. Sensation overload, she moaned finally understanding the phrase. He was everywhere. His scent, his taste, his touch. And she didn’t know his name.
“Mmm, baby, you feel like silk, Smooth and hot to the touch. I can’t wait to peel this dress off you.”
“Hold on. Wait, please stop,” she whispered the despised words, wanting to kick herself when he obeyed. He was breathing roughly and turned his head in wonder as if only realizing now where they were.
The hallway was empty except for the odd person walking discreetly towards the restrooms. He’d at least had enough presence of mind to tuck them in a corner behind a large potted tree.
Melody took a step back and righted her dress. She wiped her mouth and looked at his roving green eyes. They seemed to caress her body like hands.
So expressive in his desire, she gasped. Had any man ever looked at her with such open hunger? She doubted it.
“Um, who are you?”
“I’m Nikolai Falk. You’re name, sweet?”
He took her hand in his, drawing circles against the soft part while he watched her with a curious expression on his too handsome face.
“My name is Melody Casper.”
“Perfect, as you are, Melody Casper,” he said, and seemed to savor it on his tongue.
“I’m not perfect,” she stated blandly.
“But you are like a song, beautiful Melody. Poetry,” he said and caressed her face with his fingertips.
She sighed and struggled to hold onto her humanity. Her Coyote barked and yipped in her mind’s eye. The furry beast doing circles inside of her. What the heck?
“You’re a Dragon?” She asked astonished at her own rudeness.
“I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have asked that.”
“Nonsense, you can ask me anything. Yes, I am a Dragon, and you are a Coyote, aren’t you little one?” His gaze was purely appreciative as he looked her over again.
“Yes, I am,” she pulled her hand slightly, but he refused to let it go. A fact that made her want him all the more.
“Look, I have heard about you know,” she murmured, rolling her eyes at his confused look.
“Your reputation precedes you, Mr. Falk, and-” Melody couldn’t believe what she was about to say, but before she could get a word out, her large, blonde companion approached them.
“Hello, friend, I’m Cecil,” he extended a hand to Nikolai who merely looked at the other Shifter and growled.
“Okay, then. Hey Melody, I just wanted to make sure you’re okay?”
Cecil’s question was firm and direct. She smiled at him, grateful that he’d cared enough to check on her. The big Dragon who was still holding her hand did not seem to like it all that much. In fact, he lifted his lip and snarled at the blonde man.
“The lady is perfectly fine and none of your concern, friend,” he said the word, but Melody knew he didn’t mean it. Neanderthal. Okay, it was a little hot.
Still, Cecil waited for her to answer. She nodded and opened her hand up to Nikolai’s possessive one. Wanting to soothe him, though she didn’t understand why.
She was almost embarrassed at how turned on she was by his blatant show of possessiveness. It was a Shifter thing, she guessed. Her inner Coyote liked that he could take care of her. Feminism was alive and well in the Shifter world, but apparently her inner animal was not feeling it.
“Thank you, Cecil, but Nikolai and I are fine, I do appreciate the concern,” she stepped forward to kiss his cheek.
Again, Nikolai growled, but she stepped into his embrace quickly, pressing her back against his chest. The movement seemed to soothe him and his beast. His hands rested on her waist, but she knew his eyes still watched the other male Shifter until he retreated with a wave back to the gala.
“That was risky on his part,” Nikolai said as he nuzzled the back of her neck. She arched and sighed, loving the way his hot breath tickled her skin. His fingertips ran down the length of her back exposed by her gown. Stopping to toy with a spot above her left buttock.
“Is that a tattoo?”
“Yes.”
“What of? Never mind, I’ll find out, later,” he turned her around and pressed their lips together in a sizzling kiss that left her breathless.
“Let’s get out of here,” she said. She felt wild and reckless and so fucking turned on she didn’t ever want to think again. Especially if thinking meant talking herself out of leaving this place with that man on her arm.
“Baby, you don’t know what you do to me. Come on, let’s go,” he grabbed her hand and led her to the coat check. She was barely aware of him talking to her, but he smiled and pressed his thumb against her palm.
“I said, stay here and I’ll come back for you once the valet pulls my car out front. I won’t be long,” he kissed her lips quickly and went to talk to the valet.
Melody exhaled. Holy fuck. Her whole body was on fire. She was burning for him. She’d never really done one-night stands, but there was a first time for everything. Besides, she was thirty-five and just ripe for a blazing affair.
What if he changes his mind? What if he doesn’t like what he sees when he gets my clothes off? Oh no. What if he has a small dick? Wait. No way.
She’d felt the evidence of his enormous manhood pressed against her belly when they’d kissed before. Everything about him was big. Thank fucking god.
Her thoughts were interrupted by a woman in a short, skin-tight red dress with six-inch stilettos. She was blonde and super thin, with a lot of make-up, and a nasty look in her blue eyes.
“You know, as a fellow woman, I thought you should know, that one has some rumors flying around about him.”
“Excuse me?”
“They say he is a fucking pervert. He takes out his afflictions on others, you know what I mean?”
“What are you talking about?”
“Dear, are you that dumb? That one is all show, he can’t get it up. He is all talk and no action, but worse, he’s got a temper too. Just thought I’d warn you, but you’re probably not used to male attention like that, can’t say I blame you for falling for it,” she continued with her unwanted advice and Melody was fuming by the time her rant was finished.
“You know, I don’t believe I asked for your opinion. Have a good night.”
She walked to the door at the same time Nikolai came back to fetch her. His eyes were on her and so he seemed to miss the unwelcome exchange.
“You ready?”
“Yes,” she said. More than ready.
