Castor stroked Jozette’s back as they held onto each other through the night. Words seemed superfluous in the face of such passion, but she had to speak. Needed him to hear the words she felt to her very soul.
“Castor?”
“Yes, love?” he murmured.
“I wanted you to know that no matter what, you are the only man I will ever love in my entire life.”
“I better be, darling,” he said, sounding amused. “Otherwise, I shall have to read more law books to keep myself out of jail for murder,” he joked.
“Ha ha. Very funny. But I am serious, I mean, after you know,” she said, eyes filling with tears at the thought of him not being there.
“Oh, fuck!” Castor sat up, taking her with him, and scaring the shit out of her in the process.
“What?”
“I forgot to tell you. I am not dying!”
“What? You’re not?!” She yelled, jumping on him, and sending them both crashing to the ground.
“Are you okay?” Castor asked, pushing her hair out of her face.
“Jozette, answer me? Are you hurt?”
“No! I am not hurt,” she said, only realizing then that she was sobbing.
“I am so happy,” she climbed on top of him, hugging him tightly.
“Thank goodness. You startled me,” he growled against her head, squeezing her waist, and crushing her to him.
“Well, what happened? How do you know you aren’t dying?”
“From my brothers. When they each laid a hand on me in their castle, they were performing a sort of mindsharing. It is a Dragon thing, but only kin can do it. It seems all that pain I felt, even the tug on my heart strings that brought me to your door, was all my Dragon attempting to unite me with my fated mate. With you, Jozette,” he explained, grinning widely.
“For real?”
“Yes, my love. And what I told you about those gems is real, too. I got a text from Marissa’s uncle. It seems we are very wealthy. We do not have to mooch off your friends anymore. Though my brothers’ offer to build a new wing in Castle Falk is real,” he said.
“Do you want that?”
“I want you,” he replied. “You are my beacon, my guiding light, my only real treasure. I will live anywhere you want to live, as long as you are there, I am home.”
His words had an amazing effect on Jozette. Her heart, once shy and scarred, seemed to blossom and shine. For the first time in her life, she felt the true meaning of family and love in her Dragon’s arms.
“Let’s do it,” she said, trusting her gut. It hadn’t let her down so far.
“Good. Our dragonling will enjoy being raised with his cousins,” Castor said, kissing her with intent.
“What? You got me pregnant!” She yelled.
Her Dragon’s smile dropped, concern marring his gorgeous face. But the second the words were out, she realized she could not be happier. Jozette had a Dragon and a baby on the way. What more could she want?
“I know it is fast—” He began, but she stopped him with a kiss.
“It’s perfect.”
“Really?”
“Yes! I’m going to write the kind of books we can read to our baby from my desk in our very own wing of a castle. What could be more perfect?”
“If you’ll marry me,” he said.
Castor leaned over and grabbed his pants, pulling something from the pocket. He handed it to Jozette, keeping his hand closed for a moment until she raised her eyes to his.
“I thought we could have this made into a ring,” he whispered, revealing the most beautiful blue garnet she had ever seen.
“Yes,” Jozette replied. “I will marry you.”
“My treasure,” Castor murmured before claiming her mouth with a fervent kiss.
And they lived happily ever after…

Nothing can surprise this six hundred-year-old Dragon, except maybe her.

Would loneliness be this QuartzDragon’s fate?
