I thought I would be unable to sleep, but surprisingly, I fell asleep quickly in the comfortable bed.
However, my sleep wasn't peaceful, and I eventually woke up from a nightmare. I dreamt that Oliver found out I was still alive and chased after me with a knife, wanting to kill me, while Amelia and Jennifer stood by, grinning maliciously.
I ran as fast as I could, but I tripped on a stone and fell to the ground. Just as the knife was about to strike me, I screamed and woke up.
I quickly washed up and went outside, only to find the living room empty. Mason was still in the cockpit. I walked in and saw him, his eyes bloodshot from lack of sleep, intently staring at the dashboard.
The sky was just beginning to lighten with the first hint of dawn. The sea and sky blended into a pure, deep blue, and for a moment, I felt a slight sense of hope for the future.
"You didn't sleep all night?" As soon as the words left my mouth, I wished I could slap myself. I had taken up the bed, and the couch in the living room was a narrow single, so where could he have slept?
Fortunately, he didn't comment on it. Instead, he simply ordered, "Go to the kitchen and make something to eat. I'm hungry."
"Okay, I'll do it right away." I nodded.
When I opened the fridge in the kitchen, I was surprised to find it stocked with plenty of ingredients. I quickly got to work, washing pots, cooking oatmeal, scraping fish, chopping meat, and picking vegetables. Before long, a hearty breakfast was ready.
When Mason saw the food on the table, he gave me a long look but said nothing. He sat down and quickly finished a bowl of oatmeal.
I took the bowl he handed me, filled it, and placed it in front of him.
He ate quickly, but his movements were graceful. After three bowls of oatmeal and more than half of the food on the table, he finally stood up and left the table.
I didn't sit down to eat until he was done. But after taking just one bite, I nearly choked on his question.
Mason asked, "Are you a nanny?"
"No, I'm a housewife." I continued to eat, but after just a small bowl of oatmeal, I started cleaning up the kitchen.
He sat on the couch, staring at me. Even though I was busy, I could still see from the corner of my eye that Mason's brows were furrowing tighter and tighter.
He said, "You have to break this bad habit of yours. Put the dishcloth down. From now on, don't hang around the kitchen."
I was dumbfounded. Was he out of his mind? Didn't he tell me to go to the kitchen and make him something to eat? He was enjoying the meal, and then he had the nerve to lecture me after he finished.
Mason saw the defiant look on my face and said, "You need to change more than just your appearance. You need to lose the housewife vibe. Forget it. After we get to shore, I'll teach you."
He clearly didn't want to talk to me anymore. He turned and went back to the cockpit to continue driving the yacht.
He had been driving all night. I really wanted to suggest he get some rest. But even if I said something, he wouldn't appreciate it, let alone listen to me. So I just kept quiet.
After another two hours, a small island appeared in the distance. Mason turned to me and said, "We're here. Get ready to disembark."
The yacht docked, and a group of people were already waiting on the shore. Two servants came over and set up a gangway for us, helping me down.
The man leading the group looked to be in his thirties, and he seemed very familiar with Mason. He exchanged a few casual words with him, then turned to me, giving me a thorough once-over.
I felt a bit uneasy under his gaze, awkward and completely out of place.
"When can we start?" Mason asked.
The man answered, "Anytime. Do you want to rest first and eat something?"
"No need. Let's start now."
"Alright."
I knew what they meant by "start". This was the first step of the plan—to have my face changed through surgery.
Although I knew I came to the island for surgery, I didn't expect it to happen so quickly. But I wasn't opposed to it. The sooner the surgery, the sooner I could get back to my revenge.
I was led into a beautiful villa by two nurses. They first asked about my menstrual cycle, and luckily, my period had just ended a few days ago. The nurses nodded in satisfaction and began preparing me for the surgery.
Although I had mentally prepared myself, I still felt a bit reluctant to part with this face, the one I had lived with all my life, as I was about to become someone else.
I mustered up the courage to ask the nurse, "Can I have one last look at myself?"
The nurse nodded and handed me a small mirror. I looked at myself for a while, making sure to engrave my face into my mind. I handed the mirror back to the nurse and spoke, "Let's begin."
As I lay on the operating table, the anesthesiologist administered the general anesthesia. Gradually, my consciousness faded away, and soon, I knew nothing at all.
