Probably because Mason had been so good to me, I had let it go to my head and forgotten my place. I hurried to pull away, but it was too late.
There were already tiny blood spots seeping from the tooth marks on his chest. That bite was pretty deep. It would probably leave a scar.
"I'm sorry." I couldn't look him in the eye, feeling guilty and ashamed.
"What are you, a puppy? Why do you love biting so much?" Mason said.
I didn't dare answer. I hopped out of bed, ready to rush out, but Mason called out, "No need to get the medicine. It's fine."
I turned around in shock and asked the question that had been on my mind. "Can you read minds? How else do you always know what I'm thinking?"
"Come back to bed. I'll tell you in the morning."
"Tell me now. Otherwise, I won't be able to sleep."
"If you can't sleep, we might as well do what newlyweds are supposed to do."
Left speechless, I jumped back into bed right away and turned off the light. Before long, I was really asleep.
I slept well all night. When I woke up the next day, it was almost noon.
Mason wasn't beside me again. If it weren't for the lingering marks of our intimacy on my body and the soreness all over, I might have wondered if last night was just a sex dream.
I stretched hard, wanting to get up and get dressed, but then I remembered that I had no clothes to wear.
That bastard had torn my clothes to pieces last night. What was I going to do? I couldn't just go out wrapped in a bedsheet.
I was about to call the culprit when I noticed some clothes bags on the nightstand. I opened them. On top was a red outfit from ONLY.
In the bags below, there were cosmetics. I took them out and saw they were new but my usual brands.
I felt a little touched. Mason might always seem cold and distant like he wanted to keep everyone at arm's length, but he always managed to touch her through little things.
I got dressed, washed up, and put on my makeup. When I walked out of the bedroom, he was just coming in from outside.
"Mase, were you out running?" I asked.
It was really just small talk. It was almost noon. Who ran at this hour? And who ran in a suit and leather shoes anyway?
"Pack your things. Come home with me." Mason's voice sounded a bit annoyed, and his face was gloomy.
"What's wrong? Did something else happen?" I asked.
Delilah had told Mason to take a week off. After the wedding, he was supposed to take me to Vereni for our honeymoon. We were meant to fly out tonight, but I had a feeling the honeymoon was going to fall through.
Sure enough, Mason said, "I'll make up the honeymoon later. That woman's pregnant. Delilah wants us to go back to celebrate it."
"What?" My mouth dropped wide enough to fit an egg.
This news was way too shocking. I'd just married Mason, and his stepmother was pregnant?
Not getting to go to Vereni didn't bother me at all. This sudden news made me totally excited.
Mason said, "Wait a bit before we head back. Let me get my head around this."
"So that woman didn't faint on purpose yesterday. She fainted because she's pregnant? There's a little brother or sister for you in her belly?" I said.
Mason glared at me and said nothing.
I didn't notice his bad mood at all. My curiosity was through the roof. "How old is your stepmother? She can still get pregnant? At her age, she's in pretty good shape, huh?"
"Katherine, are you asking for it? Gossiping in front of me? Keep yammering and I'll throw you out the window," Mason snapped.
