Their high school in LA. 🔝
"I want you to understand one thing." I point at the guy as his eyes cross staring at my finger." I will not help you around here. You got your schedule and don't expect me to help you around here. Here, you and I don't know one another."
I look at my phone, knowing my cue to make my entrance is coming up.
"Why? I know not where to go. You, I, friend." He cocked his head, and I glared at him.
"What did I tell you! You and I will never be friends. So get that out your head." I opened the door, stepping out. Looking out at the sunset setting over the modern school.
Just coming costs money every year. I don't blame them. This school gets people into the best of colleges. And most of the students - like me - have rich, famous family members or parents.
"I do not understand." He walked around the car but I started walking towards the school. Not paying mind to him as people started seeing me. Crowding around me as they asked me about my weekend.
I didn't tell them about getting an Exchange Brother. That's embarrassing enough, just by saying the words is enough.
"William." I look, seeing Dylan walking towards me. We high five, him suddenly looking around." Where's he at?"
He knew all about the guy, and I shrugged. He narrowed his eyes at me, but suddenly snorted.
"I know where he is."
"What?" Dylan points behind me, and I look as I see that stupidass holding a girls hands like how he's always holding mine. Nodding to them over and over again as she blushes. People starting to surround him.
"His stupidass!" I rush towards him, hearing the 'Merci beaucoup' from back here." Arthur!"
He looks, still holding her hands. I smack his hands from hers, and he frowns.
"You don't do that here! What is wrong with you?" I hiss at him, and he cocks his head.
"But I was thanking. She help me." He smiled at her, the girls swooning. Making me realize that the girl was Bella's best friend. She has a history of trying to date all the supposed 'hot guys' in school. Except she won't get me, or him.
"What did I tell you?"
"You tell me nothing." He retorted, frowning as there was stares now.
"Arthur. Come. Right now." I growl, and he lets go of the girls hands as he follows behind me. I shake my head, walking to my locker that my parents happened to put his locker next to.
I glared at him, him frowning and his head cocked.
"What wrong?"
"You wrong!" I hiss, and he sighs.
"You tell me not speak to you. I do that. But you talk to me, not I." He states, and I wave my arms around.
"Because you do shit like this." I grab his hands, over exaggerating it as I nod vigorously at his hands. Saying 'Merci beaucoup" over and over like him.
He smiles, nodding too.
I yank my hands out his, shoving him to my surprise. Causing him to look strangely baffled like he's never been shoved.
"Just stay away from me. Don't get in my way. I don't give a flying fuck if you're my Exchange Brother. It doesn't mean you really are my brother. So fuck you." I slam my locker, walking away as I caught a glimpse of his reaction...
It shook me a little...I'll just say that.
I walked to Dylan, and he had his eyebrows raised.
"What'd you just do?" He asked, and I shrugged.
"Nothing. Why?"
"Because he's staring at the ground - I'm telling you. I feel like everything you've done to him will come back at you. I know for certain he isn't as calm as he might give off or lacks confidence. He's one of those guys who will do sneaky revenge that creeps into your life and you don't even see it. He's one of those guys. BEWARE!" He wiggles his fingers around in my face, making me roll my eyes.
"Sure, sure. But I doubt he is smart enough to do anything."
"I wouldn't say that." Dylan sung, making me mock him as we walked off. Leaving the guy to whatever he's doing.
I should start using his name instead of saying "the guy," but I only say his name when I'm angry. Which is all the time.
Maybe if he didn't always piss me off, I'd say his name kindly. Nope.
By what Dylan said was making me think.
Would he try to get back at me? No, he doesn't have the big enough balls to do it... Okay, um he doesn't have enough confidence to do it. I'm not worried.
Arthur
All I wanted was a friend. To come here in America for my family members for somewhat of a better education with that kind family.
They told me a boy named William always wanted a brother. I've always wanted a brother! So I thought we'd be friends.
But as soon as I saw him I saw someone who hated me. For what? I have no clue.
I thought he wanted a brother and a friend, like me... All I want is a friend. Is that so hard to ask for?
William
"You've been really mean!" I look, Bella pouting at me as I raise my eyebrows.
"What are you talking about? I'm always nice to you."
"No. Not me. You know exactly who I'm talking about." She folds her arms, and I sigh.
"What about him?"
I haven't spoken to him ever since I told him to not talk to me and that we were not friends. He's in my classes but doesn't bother speaking. Good, at least he's smart enough to know when to listen. Stay his ground in my kingdom I call, high school.
"He looks so sad. I don't know where he is, but isn't he your Exchange Brother-?"
"I didn't ask for him to come here. I don't give a fuck about what he's doing. I don't even know why you care, you haven't even spoken to him yet."
"'Yet'." She signaled, making me roll my eyes.
"Not that I care or anything, but why are you so persistent on speaking to him. You're not missing anything." I said, the whole table looking in my direction.
"What is he all about? He won't talk to anyone and the only person that he speaks to is Bella's best friend-."
"She has a name. Her name is Talia."
"I don't care." Hank rolled his eyes, pointing his Caprisun straw at me." But dude, Dylan told me about what he thinks that guy is capable of... You need to do something-."
"No! I hate the guy and his stupid accent and I still can't get over the way he treats people."
All the guys raised their eyebrows.
"I don't want to sound like I'm into guys or anything..." Jack scratched the back of his neck as he looked away." But he's the only guy here that is a gentleman naturally. He's good looking and looks like a charmer - but I still like my women."
"True that, true that." They all agreed, but I was pissed.
That guy is already making people wet their pants over him and he hasn't spoken to either of them. It pisses me off because there is nothing great about him.
"Oh, speak of the devil."
I look behind me only to have everyone look at the same time.
There he was, walking inside the cafeteria twenty minutes late. He looked around, cocking his head until a big smile came on his face. It looked like he was looking in my direction as he started walking towards us.
I faced forward, rolling my eyes as I knew he was just going to bother me.
But not until I saw him walk right past us, and to see him going towards Talia. She sat with the cheerleaders and Bella always sat with me.
I sneered, watching as he spoke to them and said something, and a girl held out her hands. And he grabbed them as he started to hold them too.
"They are so wrong for that." Hank spats, and faces back forward." That's why in schools these days, the football players don't date cheerleaders anymore."
But I wasn't focused on that. That bitch saw me looking towards him, but he walked right past us like it was nothing.
He probably didn't mean anything by it, but still! No - he did!
"What should I do?" I ask Bella, and she shrugs.
"He's your...Exchange Brother, go talk it out like brothers would."
"Hell no." I sneer, and she stands as she walks over to them. I sigh, shoving my fingers in my hair.
"Even Bella's defending him. Really dude, you should really be nice to him. Might help you in the long run-."
"No! I hate the guy."
"Why though?" They asked, looking for an answer. But I honestly didn't have one.
Until the end-of-lunch bell went off, and everyone stood. But from over here I saw it startled the guy. The girls though were comforting him and giggling.
"They really lovin' on him. Wait 'til French."
I gasp, realizing French class is next. And for certain the teacher will place him next to me, thinking she's doing us a "favor".
"Yeah, sure."
We walk to class, and when we get there I get to my seat. The teacher says Bonjour to everyone when they walk in and I know the guy is gonna show off.
Because when he got to the door she smiled, saying hello in English. But he pointed at the board that was all in French.
"Connaissez-vous le français?" ( Do you know French? ) She asked, and he nodded ecstatically.
"Je viens de France! Ce cours sera tellement amusant parce que c'est quelque chose que je connais couramment." ( I am from France! This class will be so much fun because it's something I know fluently. ) He smiles, taking her hands and nodding at them.
We all watched as she blushed, and he smiled, pulling away.
"Where I sit?" He asked, and almost everyone's hand shot up to sit next to them.
"Uh..." She was rubbing her cheeks, because we all saw her get all flushed over a student. That stupidass-.
"Asseyez-vous à côté de William. J'ai déjà lu vos deux pensées." ( Sit next to William. I already read both of your minds. ) She grinned, and he smiled. But when he looked over here his smile cracked a little.
Everyone saw it, it was too fucking obvious not to be fucking seen!
He weaved around everyone, and he smiled down at them as if it was second-nature. It was obvious people weren't used to someone being so kind to them without the person knowing your name. Because at this school, you become popular by status and family fame. Not because of who you are as a person.
Once he sat next to me, all eyes were on us. Almost like you were in Elementary School and you start to remember when you went on stage. Performing something your Music class came up with together...
"Merci beaucoup." He thanked out loud, and everyone started to grin like it was the sweetest thing. This makes me want to barf. They don't even know him...
He's gotten more attention than I have out of this whole day!
"Bon cours, puisque nous avons un nouvel étudiant, s'il vous plaît présentez-vous et une chose que vous aimez." ( Okay class, since we have a new student, please introduce yourself and one thing you like. ) She told, and everyone stood as they looked behind at him. He smiled, and everyone started introducing themselves.
Every time they finished he would say "Merci Beaucoup," and it was pissing me off.
These people were actually enjoying telling him their name and such. Most people would be afraid to look me in the eye!
Finally when everyone was done he clapped, people starting to clap too. Except me.
"Merci beaucoup! You all did not have to do this. But you did. Thank you." He said in choppy syllables, making the girls giggle. Even the guys were grinning.
"Alors maintenant que c'est situé, passons tous à nos projets." ( So now that that's situated, let's get on with our projects. ) She said, and I smirked. I already had a partner and the guy cocked his head in confusion.
"Arthur would you like to join a group?" She suddenly asked, and he cocked his head.
"Group? I not sure. I do not want to make sad." He said, and everyone started saying how he can join their group.
"What about you William? Want him in your group?" She asked me, and everyone already knew I don't care for him.
"I don't care." I hear myself saying, and she claps everyone groaning as they have to do work now.
Dylan happens to be my partner and now he's joining. When Dylan sat with us he narrowed his eyes at me, looking to the guy.
"So your Arthur?" He asks, and the guy
nods." Just in case, names-."
"Dylan. Thing you like most is take risks."
Dylan smiled, nodding.
"You remembered that?"
"Yes. I remember all."
Dylan looked impressed, glancing at me because he knew I didn't care for people and what they liked. I would've forgotten it all.
"Okay, shut up and don't get in the way. You have no idea what we are doing."
"He probably does." Dylan had to point out, and I glared at him.
"Let me see?" Dylan brought up his part of the project.
The project was to learn Frances culture and environment. We had to take up all the stuff we learned, in French. And make a big presentation about it, in French.
"Ooh! I can do!" He took a pencil, and started writing stuff down on Dylan's notebook.
"In France one thing we do is lunch. Stop all for lunch. Best part of day." He said while writing, and I looked at our notes. Seeing that Dylan and I were just going off what we thought.
"You have to say why." I say, and the guy looks at me. Looking away, nodding.
"It's tradition. To come together with all. Make friend. Make foe. Find love. Lunch is time of peace." He murmurs, and I find myself intrigued by hearing say all that.
"So..." He looks at me as I find myself asking a question." So at lunch time over there, what happens? Sounds to me like everything just-."
"Shuts down." Him and I said at the same time, making me look away. Hearing Dylan snort, I looked back forward as the guy was nodding.
"Word 'culture' is from France. You all copy!" He smiled, and Dylan folded his arms.
"You saying America copied from France?"
"Yes! All got word from France. Same meaning for both. Copiers!" He joked, and Dylan smiled as he shook his head. Sticking his tongue out.
"Ooh! Égalité!"
"What the hell is that?" I ask, and the guy flinches when I look to see what he's writing in French.
"Come on big guy, you scared of big, bad wolf William here?" Dylan asked, and all of a sudden it was like a switch flipped on.
Because his eyes darkened, looking at Dylan and then at me. I suddenly felt a tiny sliver of fear and a chill go up my spin. Scaring me that I was suddenly getting this way from a glare. A frightening glare.
But he smiled, it going away.
"No. Just surprised." He went back to writing and I looked to Dylan. Seeing his skin pale and he looked to me.
"You saw that too?" He mouthed, making me nod in assurance.
Okay, I wasn't the only one...
We both saw his crazy glare. The whole time he's been sweet and such, but I saw that. But no one else did...
Damn it!
