When Javier heard the name Isaac Parks, his expression changed slightly and he gazed at me seriously.
Many years ago, Javier had seen that name in my notebook. At that time, Javier asked if he was someone I liked.
However, I didn't expect Javier to remember that name after so many years.
I raised my eyes slightly, and my gaze landed gently on my mother, sitting at the table opposite me.
Her expression was calm as if she had never heard of Isaac's name.
It was because my mother was too calm and didn't even have the slightest bit of curiosity that I noticed something amiss.
If it were another name, my mother would have continued to ask about the person.
My mother picked up the serving fork and put a piece of pork ribs into Angela's bowl. She said gently, "Don't just talk. The food is getting cold."
Angela nodded and revealed an awkward expression. She smiled and raised the wine glass in her hand. She looked at me and Alex, saying, "I haven't had time to congratulate you on your marriage yet!"
There was a faint smile on Alex's handsome face. He said in his usual gentle and polite tone, "Thank you!"
I picked up my wine and pursed my lips slightly.
"Laurel, Congratulations!"
As soon as Maliyah finished her words, everyone raised their wine glasses. I smiled awkwardly, not knowing what to say to ease the awkward atmosphere.
Instead, Alex calmly picked up his wine glass and looked at my mother, who was smiling. "Yvette, you're discharged today. It's better not to drink. It won't be too late to drink at my wedding with Laurel."
My mother smiled and nodded. Angela, beside her, quickly took a bottle of water and replaced my mother's wine glass.
"Yvette, I'll drink it for you," said Angela.
Angela lifted her head and drank the wine in the glass in one gulp.
She was so fond of drinking that I didn't know who she looked like.
I didn't even drink anymore.
For a long time, the more tired I was, the more I couldn't fall asleep. Angela always accompanied me because of the time difference.
We talked on the phone about trivial things at work and in life.
We two drank across space, complained together, and drank together.
Even though we were in two different places and our lives were different, our feelings for each other were still great.
Angela was the first stranger who truly cared about me, didn't care about my identity, didn't care about my family, and would treat me well without reservation.
Fortunately, Angela was not a man.
Otherwise, Austin would never allow me to have such a close friend like Angela with his personality.
However, Austin allowed himself to have it.
"Alex, when will you guys hold your wedding ceremony?" Bonnie looked up at Alex gently.
Angela also stared straight at me and revealed a sly smile.
I sighed inwardly. Actually, I had expected this to be a trap, but I didn't expect Alex to walk into it willingly.
"When everything here is settled, I want to bring Laurel back to meet my parents and set a date," Alex replied. He turned to look at me and said gently, "We might need to stay at my parents' place for two days. Is that okay?"
"Of course, why not?" Angela hurriedly said. The smile on her lips was so wide that it almost reached the back of her ears.
My mother was stunned. "Aren't you staying in Newton City?"
Alex reached out and held my hand. He looked at my mother and slowly said, "The new company is ready to open in Nifelheim City. Laurel has been staying in Newton City all these years and hasn't been able to accompany you often."
My mother pondered and smiled. "I don't need her to accompany me. It's fine as long as you two can stay together well. Don't live apart because of me."
"Of course not. I can't bear to." Alex looked at me affectionately, but his gaze made my heart inexplicably cold.
'Isn't he overacting a bit?' I thought.
We finally finished our meal. I wanted to spend more time with my mother, but Bonnie and my mother chased me out.
'We live so close to each other. What's wrong with letting me stay a little longer?' I thought.
However, I couldn't be bothered to continue acting lovey-dovey with Alex. I was afraid I would vomit out the delicious food I just ate.
I returned to the room next door and was about to find a room to put my things in, but Alex stopped me.
"Yes. We can't put it in the guest room. What if my mother or Bonnie comes to clean up for us?" I narrowed my eyes, but Alex didn't let go of my suitcase.
A cold light surged from his eyes, making him look eerie and terrifying.
I shivered and pretended to be calm as I looked at Alex. "What's wrong?"
"What's your relationship with Isaac?" asked Alex.
Alex's cold facial features were so close to me that I couldn't help but swallow. I reached out and pushed his muscular chest away.
'What is Alez, the old fox, trying to do? Seduce me with his beauty?' I thought.
However, his figure was great, honestly.
Alex was the type of guy who looked thin in clothes but was all muscle underneath.
Not only did he have outstanding looks, but he also came from a prominent family and had a perfect figure.
It was indeed difficult to reject a man like him.
"What? You don't want to tell me?" Alex frowned slightly and looked at me coldly.
I raised my head slightly and looked at Alex before me. My heart skipped a beat.
'Is he angry? Or has he got so into the role that he can't get out of it?' I thought.
"I have nothing to do with Isaac," I said.
"Oh? Really?" Alex raised his eyebrows and his lips curled into a contemptuous smile. "If you have nothing to do with him, why did he jump into the water to save you?
Why did he go to your room if you have nothing to do with him? And he even sent you medicine?"
"So you've been sending people to spy on my every move, haven't you?" I stared at Alex in disbelief. I was silent before I suddenly understood. I sighed. "So, you knew it would be dangerous to become your wife, so you rejected Samantha?"
The corners of Alex's mouth curled up as his body moved closer and closer to me.
Instinctively, I stepped back until I was pressed against the wall.
I wanted to look away, but my eyes were out of my control.
He was indeed an old fox who could charm people. I stared blankly at Alex before me. My heart was beating violently, but I still had a fearless expression.
'What is there to be afraid of? Countless women want to climb onto Alex's bed. I ain't the one who suffered,' I thought.
When I was ready to put my arms around his neck, Alex sighed sadly. "I don't care what your relationship was with Isaac in the past, but now that you're my wife, I'll be jealous when you're with another man."
