Without waiting for me to make a move, Marvin frowned and kicked the man.
The man hit the wall with a dull thud, and the knife in his hand fell to the ground.
Marvin walked to the man with a calm expression. The corners of his lips curled up, and he gave the man another two vicious kicks.
He did not look like a police officer at all. Instead, he looked more like a local ruffian who had come out to cause trouble.
Marvin didn't look like a pretty little brother who cried whenever he was wronged.
People always change bit by bit on the path of growth. In the end, one becomes a different version of oneself.
Marvin was often bullied by his classmates and even by students from other schools because he was short and weak when he was little.
It was also that the chivalrous Angela stepped forward and saved him at that time.
At that time, Marvin's name was not Marvin Adams. He took his mother's surname. It was Marvin Wright.
Marvin's mother only changed his surname when he was in middle school, but Marvin didn't tell us because he already knew he was an illegitimate child.
Moreover, he had the nerve to have hidden it until it was exposed.
Marvin said he was always on tenterhooks every time he was with us.
For a while, Marvin didn't look for us. He even deliberately avoided us.
Then I discovered his little secret.
However, I did not expect him to be Angela's half-brother.
Sometimes, life was even more exciting than in the cheesy dramas.
Who would have thought that halfway through supper, I followed Marvin to protect the people and was almost beheaded?
Fortunately, Marvin rushed out in time to protect me. When the police appeared, the onlookers rushed out.
The people who caused trouble were all young guys. The oldest was only 25 years old.
Two men and three women came to the late-night snack shop from the KTV.
Perhaps they had drunk too much and had some unpleasant things with the people at the next table.
Unexpectedly, one of the men was unconvinced and sneaked into the kitchen to get a knife.
Without a sound, he stabbed someone.
The man stabbed anyone who came forward. His eyes were red from killing.
"Who's the other guy with the knife?" I asked.
"I think he's here to seek revenge. I don't know the details yet," Marvin said calmly. He looked at me and said, "Your wound needs to be bandaged. The ambulance will be here soon. Wait for me at the hospital."
"I'm fine." I looked down and saw that the wound between my thumb and index finger, which was almost healed, was bleeding again. I was injured in the same place.
Marvin let out a long sigh. His voice was slightly deep as he said, "Fortunately, nothing happened to you. Otherwise, Angela would skin me alive."
I pursed my lips and smiled.
Angela wouldn't. She couldn't be bothered with Marvin.
Of course, if anything happened to me, Angela would find ways to make Marvin unhappy.
"Wait for me at the hospital. I'll pick you up after I send the people away," Marvin reminded me as he got into the police car.
When the ambulance arrived, I also got in because I injured not only my hand but also my right shoulder.
I was still accidentally cut by the knife held by that man. Fortunately, Marvin's leather jacket was thick enough. Otherwise, my skin would have been torn apart.
I saw Austin when I came out after having my wound treated. He looked anxious, and Rosemary was leaning against him.
I wanted to turn around and leave, but I was too late.
"Laurel, why are you here?" The moment Austin saw me, a trace of surprise flashed across his eyes. He looked at my hand which was wrapped in gauze and was slightly stunned. "Are you injured?"
"Laurel, how did you get injured?" Rosemary blinked and looked at me innocently.
She hated me but still pretended to care about me.
They're not tired. I'm tired of just looking at them.
I couldn't be bothered with them. I turned around and wanted to go out for a breather and see if Marvin was there.
However, if Marvin said he would take a while, it would take at least half an hour.
I thought, 'I'll take a taxi back if he doesn't come. I'm tired and sore all over.'
"Laurel, when did you become so self-destructive?" Austin's gaze fell on the black leather jacket I was wearing.
It was obvious the jacket was a man's.
Rosemary sighed softly. "Laurel, I know you haven't been able to let go of Austin. That's why you keep appearing in front of him. Why don't you apologize to him properly? Austin will forgive you."
"I don't touch dirty things," Austin said through gritted teeth.
I sneered and looked at Austin lazily. "What a coincidence. Me, too."
I turned to look at Rosemary again and said coldly, "Just pick up the trash I don't want if you like it. Don't keep saying I'm still thinking about him. Will you be thinking about the things you threw into the trash?"
Austin was instantly exasperated. "Laurel Parks, I know you just can't let me go. That's why you appeared by Alex's side and especially took revenge on me. I didn't expect alex wouldn't care about you at all.
Are you disappointed now? You lost your job and suffered a breakup. Isn't it too late to come out and sell at your age?"
As soon as he finished his words, I saw Marvin clench his fists and charge forward.
I put an arm around Marvin's waist. I was a little scared to see him so cold.
"Marvin." I looked up and shook my head, signaling him not to act rashly.
It was not worth ruining his future for a piece of trash.
Austin glanced up and down at Marvin, a sarcastic smile playing at the corners of his mouth. "Laurel, I didn't expect you to be so successful now. You even have a pretty boy?"
"It's none of your business whether I have a pretty boy or not." I rolled my eyes. " A bitch with scumbag will last forever. You two better lock up and don't let go."
I pulled Marvin and prepared to turn around. I didn't care about their murderous gaze behind me.
"Are you hurt?" Marvin realized there was a hole in the leather jacket and quickly pulled me to take another look.
"Are you hurt anywhere else?" Marvin asked again.
Looking at his nervous expression, I couldn't help but chuckle. "Can't you just hope that I'll do well?"
"Who let you not tell me you were injured?" Marvin frowned slightly, sounding a little flustered.
His eyes were filled with fear and anxiety.
I patted him gently on the shoulder. "Don't be afraid. I won't tell your sister. Are you joking? If the word gets out, I'll be scolded, too."
I paused, and my face was full of suspicion. "Why is Austin at the hospital at this hour?"
"Because one of the people who was stabbed was Austin's friend," said Marvin.
I froze. "What's that person's name? What's his identity?"
"Jake Slater, one of the shareholders of TideShift Advertising Company.
I shuddered and took a deep breath at the moment Marvin said that.
