After replying to Maliyah and telling her to sleep peacefully, I turned the phone off. I closed my eyes but tossed and turned, unable to fall asleep.
I didn't understand why Alex suddenly came back home. According to Samantha's jealous personality, she would try her best to keep him.
However, he still came back.
As long as one didn't care, one wouldn't feel sad.
So I didn't feel sad when I saw Alex with Samantha.
However, I saw a hint of jealousy and anger in Alex's beautiful eyes.
I thought it over. It was just a matter of his pride.
After all, Austin didn't want me to get too close to other men back then, but he never really loved me.
Yes, he didn't.
How could Austin bear to make me sad if he loved me a bit?
How could he bear to let me be bullied by Rosemary and his mother?
And how could he humiliate me like that in the hospital?
I heaved a long sigh of relief. I had used all my strength and courage on Austin, and how could I be stupid enough to like another man now? Moreover, the man was an old fox who could easily fool around.
I couldn't even manage to hold on to Austin. To win Alex's heart was as difficult as trying to find a needle in a haystack.
That was wishful thinking.
After an unknown time, it started to rain outside the window. The raindrops drummed on the window and made a series of sounds. Unknowingly, I finally fell asleep.
When I woke up the next day, I saw the piercing gaze outside the window. I was in a daze and glanced at my phone. It was nine in the morning.
The rain had stopped, and the sun was shining brightly.
There was also a separate bathroom in the bedroom but no toiletries.
Alex should have gone out long ago at that time.
After all, he wasn't like me, unemployed.
I felt inexplicably flustered at the thought of suddenly losing my job.
I glanced at the balance on my mobile bank card in the app, but it still couldn't ease the panic in my heart.
I had to find a way to make Alex publicly acknowledge our relationship as soon as possible, so I could earn Kailyn's 1.5 million dollars.
The most important thing now was to get connections to the new anticancer drug developed by Mecland Pharmaceutical Company.
I had to contact them in advance although it had not been officially sold yet. I had better get it immediately.
So I had to have more money.
As for other matters, I could only take it one step at a time.
I pushed open the door and found the room was quiet. I could not help but feel happy. It seemed Alex had gone to work.
I leaned against the door of the master bedroom and listened for a while. When I realized there was no sound in the room, I pushed open the door and entered.
However, I froze in place in the next second.
Alex walked out of the bathroom, naked. When he saw me, his breathtakingly handsome face remained calm and composed.
However, there was something wrong with the way he looked at me.
When my eyes met his captivating ones, I immediately came to my senses. I quickly raised my hands to cover my eyes and instantly felt my cheeks burning.
"Does it look good?" asked Alex.
Alex's magnetic and low voice slowly floated into my ears. Then, I heard his footsteps. It was the sound of slippers rubbing against the floor. It was loud in the silent room.
"It's pretty good-looking." I lowered my hands and stared at him again.
Alex's expression darkened, and he narrowed his eyes dangerously.
I turned around calmly. I almost ran out of my slippers when I pulled open the door.
'Why is he taking a shower so early in the morning? He is most likely a clean freak. How could he not lock the door when he is naked? Damn it. It is seduction, pure and simple,' I thought.
I only dared to hide in the room next door. However, I couldn't help but think of Alex's perfect shoulders, tight waist, perky buttocks, long legs, and...
My heart was pounding. Suddenly, there seemed to be warmth under my nose. I lifted my hand to touch it, and I saw bright red blood.
I rushed to the bathroom and saw the bleeding from my nose. I felt like weeping but had no tears.
It took several sheets of tissue to stop the bleeding.
However, my heart was still pounding.
With his charming face and figure, Alx was a vixen who attracted people to commit crimes.
I hadn't even finished cursing inwardly when I heard a knock on the door.
"Go and wash up. Your sister called us for breakfast," said Alex.
I took a deep breath to steady myself. "You go ahead."
It wasn't until I heard the door close outside that I walked out of the room with lingering fear.
After washing up, I changed into comfortable clothes. Usually, I liked to wear pajamas at home, but I didn't live alone now. It felt odd to have another person to live with.
I couldn't explain my relationship with Alex. Husband and wife? Or sex buddies? Anyway, it had nothing to do with love.
Of course, I wouldn't lose out if I climbed into his bed.
Moreover, I had an ulterior motive in my heart. I wanted to suppress Samantha, the scheming hypocrite. She looked tall, pure, and unrestrained. However, she was ruthless, sinister, and vicious.
More importantly, I wanted to drive Austin's family crazy. I want to give them a hard time to get back at them for all the bad years I'd suffered.
I walked out after I was done.
The door opposite was open because only two houses were in the building. Usually, no one would come.
However, I didn't think it was safe even so.
Because of my mother's illness, she would go out if the door was open.
Upon seeing the people sitting at the dining table, I couldn't help but be stunned. I took a few steps forward.
"Mom, you don't have to wait for us to have breakfast," I said.
"I know. We woke up late today, so I called you guys along," said my mother, looking at me reproachfully. "Remember to wake up early every day. You're already married, so you should know how to serve your husband."
I almost choked when I heard the word service.
'What era is this? How could there be service? Why should I serve him? Can't he serve me?' I thought.
"No need. Whoever wakes up first will make breakfast. I can also serve Laurel," said Alex, smiling and looking at me meaningfully.
I almost choked and looked at Alex with a fake smile.
"Do you have a nosebleed?" asked Alex.
As soon as he finished his words, I quickly took a piece of paper and covered my nose. There was no bleeding at all. He was playing with me.
The people at the table stared at me simultaneously.
"Sorry, I saw it wrongly," said Alex.
I frowned slightly and stuffed a muffin into my mouth.
Alex quickly finished eating and stood up. "Yvette, Bonnie, I'll take my leave."
My mother and Bonnie nodded slightly, their eyes landing on me.
Alex reached out and touched my head. He said gently, "Remember to drink more water."
It didn't occur to me until after he left. Did he see me have a nosebleed?
