"Laurel, what's wrong?" Maliyah reached out to help me up. Her tone was filled with worry.
I sat up straight and rubbed my throbbing temples. I waved my hand and said, "I'm fine. Maybe I slept too late last night. I'm a little dizzy."
Maliyah looked at me worriedly. "Laurel, go back to sleep. I'll wake you up for lunch."
I hesitated, then finally nodded.
I was a little lazy after breakfast and wanted to find more clues. There was no hurry now.
Since I had a suspect, I had to investigate properly.
However, when I thought Alex might be the murderer of Vivian, I felt something was wrong.
I thought, 'Has he been sending people to follow me all this time, so he knows about Maliyah?
'I don't notice if it is Alex who did it. Moreover, why does he do it?
'Revenge for me? Is he afraid I will drag him down when I take revenge and something unexpected will happen?'
I was still a little stunned when I returned to my room. My thought of connecting the whole event with Alex was hard to process.
I even felt an inexplicable fear.
'If Alex did it and I angered him, could he only create an accident and get rid of me without anyone knowing?'
Thinking of that, I couldn't help but shiver.
I lay down on the bed in the master bedroom.
I feared Maliyah would find out if I slept in the second bedroom.
I texted Angela to tell her I was going to get some sleep. I would catch up with her later.
After a while, Angela sent me a lecherous picture.
Angela: [Looks like your husband came back last night. Wouldn't that drive Miss Harvey crazy?]
[I wasn't expecting him back.]
Angela: [You're living in a bubble of bliss and don't even realize it. Hurry up and catch up on your sleep. You still have to serve Alex well tonight.]
Reading Angela's message, I could feel her smiling face even through my phone screen.
I could not be bothered with her anymore. I turned off my phone and closed my eyes.
Perhaps because I was too tired, I slept until eleven in the morning.
I crawled out of bed and glanced at my phone, only to find several missed calls.
One of them was from Alex.
I called him back after hesitating for a while.
The phone rang for less than a minute before someone answered.
However, it was not Alex's voice. Instead, it was Samantha.
"Alex is in a meeting now. He doesn't have time to answer your call now." Samantha's voice sounded gentle.
"He's the one who called me," I said coolly.
There was a pause on the other end of the phone. "Maybe Alex wants to tell you he won't be back home today," said Samantha, a faint smile lingering in her voice.
Samantha paused before continuing, "By the way, he probably won't be back for the time being. Take the house in Honeydew Estate as compensation given to you by Alex. After all, you were a couple."
"Sure!" I smiled and hung up.
I immediately tidied up, applied light makeup, and put on clothes.
When I opened the door, I saw Maliyah standing at the door. She sized me up and asked in a puzzled tone, "Laurel, are you going out?"
"Yes. I'm going out to earn money. I won't be having lunch at home."
'Don't mistake me for a pushover,' I thought.
I asked Lawrence for Alex's temporary office place.
It was at Skyline Tower, the tallest building in the city.
It was not far from Honeydew Estate, less than half an hour away. It was no wonder Alex wanted to stay there.
Although it was not far, there was a traffic jam in the city, so I swept a small electric scooter at the entrance of the nearby school.
I rode to Skyline Tower.
After parking the scooter, I walked straight into the building.
There were a lot of companies in Skyline Tower. It was almost the peak time for leaving work, so I quickened my pace.
The pretty receptionist looked me up and down with a look of disdain.
Her eyes were filled with disdain.
"May I ask who you're looking for?" asked the receptionist.
"Alex Herrera," I said.
The receptionist was stunned when she heard me call Alex by name. She raised her head again and looked at me. Her tone was still not polite as she said, "You're looking for Mr. Herrera. Do you have an appointment?"
I shook my head and smiled a little. 'No. I'm here to collect a debt.'
"Collect a debt?" The receptionist frowned slightly.
"That's right! He said he wanted to give me the house as a gift."
The two young receptionists looked at each other. When they looked at me again, there seemed to be a hint of sympathy in their eyes.
Did they think I was a fool or a lunatic?
A receptionist cleared her throat and said coldly, "Miss, I'm sorry. You can't meet Mr. Herrera if you don't have an appointment with him."
I sighed helplessly and shrugged. "It's all right. I'll wait for him here, then."
Actually, I could have called him but didn't.
Firstly, I did not want to alert the enemy. Secondly, I wanted to tear open Samantha's hypocritical mask.
I was looking forward to seeing Samantha's lively expression when I appeared later.
Not long after, I saw Samantha walk out of the office. She carried herself with a noble and elegant posture, and her eyes were also brimming with smugness.
She was wearing a black corset dress. Her breasts were half-covered, and her curves were obvious. Her long and beautiful legs were even more moving under her black dress.
As a woman, I couldn't help but take a few more glances at her, let alone a man.
It seemed Samantha had made up her mind to seduce Alex.
However, her expression darkened when she saw me.
She strode over to me and asked solemnly, "Why are you here?"
I folded my hands and smiled slyly. I looked at Samantha, standing before me, and observed the change in her expression.
"Why can't I come here?" I said.
As if my appearance was unexpected, Samantha paused. "This is not a place you should be. Alex doesn't have time to see you now."
Samantha's expression did not seem to fluctuate much, but the anxiety in her tone revealed a trace of panic and uneasiness in her heart.
Actually, I already knew she was lying.
If Alex wanted to cut ties with me, he would at least divorce me.
"Please leave this place," Samantha said impatiently.
I was stunned. Then I cleared my throat and said, "Miss Harvey, didn't you say Alex wanted to give me the house as compensation? Then the name of the house should be transferred to my name.
Don't worry, I've brought my documents. Let's handle it in the afternoon. Once it's done, I'll immediately disappear from your sight."
Samantha stared at me with her deep eyes. She leaned close to my ear and smiled mockingly. "You're shameless. Are you so eager to get the house?"
