I sighed softly and replied slowly, "Of course not. I actually coveted his handsome face—and his body."
"You bitch!" Samantha cursed angrily.
I laughed without an ounce of shame, meeting her gaze with a calm expression. "Looks like you haven't had sex with him!"
"You..." Samantha suddenly blushed, but her beautiful eyes were full of fury. "You bitch."
Seeing the murderous look on Samantha's face, I couldn't help but smile contemptuously. I raised my brows, adding a touch of disdain, and said, "Miss Harvey, I've heard you're quite talented. But all you seem to be able to say is 'bitch'. Can't you come up with something more original?"
A flash of ruthless intent flickered in Samantha's sharp eyes, but it was gone almost as quickly as it appeared.
"Laurel, I suggest you leave right now. Alex is expecting important guests today, and do you really think he'll be happy if you ruin things for him?" Samantha tilted her head back slightly, a faint smile curling at the corners of her lips. ^=^ "You wouldn't understand even if I told you, so why stay here and make a fool of yourself? You should know better. It's typical for someone like Alex to play around with women from time to time, and you're no longer a little girl who can't tell the difference. Why can't you see that?"
I watched as Samantha quickly suppressed her anger, and I couldn't help but kind of admire her poise and composure.
"How come? I'm not even angry with him yet. Why should he be angry with me?" I laughed coldly, slowly sitting down on the nearby chair, adopting the attitude of someone who would wait as long as needed for Alex to come to me.
Samantha didn't seem to expect that not only was I unshaken, but I was also looking down on her.
That was true. She was the daughter of the powerful Harvey family, and who would dare defy her?
After all, the Harvey family controlled everything in Nifelheim City.
If she wielded her family's power, no one could oppose her.
Samantha regarded me coolly and said, "Laurel, are you really not afraid of offending me?"
"Do you want to kill me? Or are you planning to hurt the people around me?" I asked slowly, staring her down. "Someone died yesterday. It was Austin's friend, actually. Do you know him, Miss Harvey?" I lifted my chin and met Samantha's eyes.
The reason I was here wasn't just to expose her false mask.
More importantly, I needed to confirm something: was Samantha the one using such despicable means to destroy Maliyah?
Samantha narrowed her eyes. Her face remained impassive, but there was a sneer in her tone as she spoke. "Miss Parks, are you delusional? Not only do you think Alex is interested in you, but now you think I've targeted you?"
Her voice was steady and even, but loud enough for the front desk staff nearby to hear.
I wasn't bothered by their despised glances. After all, shame was a concept I had long discarded.
If I lived my life worried about others' opinions, I would've been dead a thousand times over.
It was true that a pretty girl might attract attention, but when she was someone with no status, no family, and no connections, people tended to exclude her.
They looked down on her, humiliated her, attacked her, and even cast malicious gazes at her.
Verbal insults could sting, but physical abuse made me feel completely powerless and desperate.
There were good people in this world, but sometimes, the "good people" wouldn't be very good to you.
And when one encountered the bad ones, they would make her life a nightmare.
"Miss Harvey, do you really not know? It's not illegal for a mad person to kill someone." I slowly stood and moved closer to Samantha, whispering, "Would you like to know who the murderer was? Maybe you should ask Alex."
Samantha's expression darkened, and she trembled slightly before throwing me a look of utter disdain.
"Miss Parks, I tried to warn you, but I didn't think you'd be so persistent." She paused, a flicker of helplessness crossing her face.
As she started to leave, I smiled. "I'll call him then. By the way, I'm afraid he is too busy to answer his phone. But the office line is always open. The number is 87..."
"Laurel, I've told you everything already. Alex is in an important video conference right now. What could be so urgent that you can't wait?" A brief flash of nervousness passed over Samantha's face.
It seemed that she was very upset now.
At that moment, the elevator door opened with a chime, and a familiar voice echoed from behind her. "Samantha."
Abigail stepped out, walking toward Samantha with a smile. She froze for a moment when she saw me, her eyes widening. "Laurel, you..."
The word 'bitch' was on her lips, but she bit it back when she saw the fierceness in my gaze.
"Samantha, why is she here?" Abigail glared at me, her voice cold. "You've got some nerve, haven't you? Did Alex dump you, and now you've come here to cause trouble?"
"I'm here to collect a debt," I replied, my voice carrying a hint of mockery. "Your cousin told me Alex was going to give me two properties in Honeydew Estate as compensation. With such a great offer, I had to come over quickly."
Abigail shot a disbelieving look at Samantha before turning back to me before Samantha said something. "Laurel, you're out of your mind. Honeydew Estate costs around 20 thousand dollars per square foot. Two houses? That's at least more than 4 million dollars."
Most of the properties in Honeydew Estate were about 100 square meters, with some larger units rarely sold. Only people with connections could buy them.
Looking at Samantha's face, it was clear she knew I had moved into one of Alex's apartments, but she didn't know I had two.
"It's worth more than 1.5 million dollars," I mused aloud, then added with a serious expression, "If it were to change hands, it could be worth at least 24 million dollars. 24 million dollars—four times 6 million dollars, right, Miss Harvey?"
"You shut up!" Samantha glared at me, her fury evident. She looked like she wanted to tear me apart.
Stepping toward me, she hissed in anger, "Laurel, are you so insatiable now? Obsessed with getting Alex to give you two properties?"
"That's right. You're just a slut. Giving you 1,000 dollars was me being polite. Don't act like we owe you anything," Abigail sneered, looking at me with contempt.
I sighed dramatically, then smiled brightly, a flash of mischief in my eyes. I walked up to Abigail and slapped her across the face.
"You dare hit me?" Abigail's eyes widened in disbelief, her voice faltering. She probably thought, since this was Alex's company, I wouldn't dare to do anything rash.
"I've got the guts to come here and ask for money, so why wouldn't I have the guts to slap someone who humiliates me?" I raised an eyebrow and grabbed her hand. "If your family is so rich, maybe you should ask your parents to buy you a new brain—before you get yourself into even more trouble."
