Angela smiled. "Don't worry. If I really marry into the Parks family, I'll be her sister-in-law. There's plenty of time to correct her behavior."
Seeing Angela's subdued and calm demeanor, I couldn't help but feel in my heart that she was overthinking everything.
The human heart was always so stubborn, especially in someone like Kailyn. She was not just the only daughter of the Parks family, but she also carried the Shepherd family name.
Even if she made a huge mistake, Maddox would never easily scold her.
Isaac would just cover for her. Angela's delusions of "correct her behavior" were too naive.
And given Kailyn's nature, she would never allow Angela to marry into the Parks family.
If she did, it would mean she had some other plan in mind.
And Angela, that naive girl, wouldn't even realize when she was being deceived.
"Laurel, what's wrong?" Angela asked, noticing I hadn't said anything.
She stared at me for a moment before speaking slowly. "I know you don't like Kailyn, but Isaac's a pretty nice guy. He's gentle, and he even saved you."
"Kailyn wants to marry Alex," I said.
"What?" Angela's face lit up with surprise.
"So do you really think she'd be okay with Isaac being with you?" I asked.
Angela wrinkled her nose, her tone a mix of surprise and confusion. "Come on. Isn't one Samantha enough? And now another Kailyn?"
"Well, what can I say? Alex is always popular," I said, cocking my head and glancing at Angela, who was looking angry.
Angela thought for a moment. "But Kailyn can't influence Isaac's decisions."
I met her gaze with a serious expression. "Angela, do you really love Isaac?"
Angela smiled. "Honestly, I almost gave up earlier, but I never expected a twist like this."
After a brief pause, I smiled.
Even if I said more, Angela probably wouldn't listen.
In my heart, I only hoped Isaac didn't have the same feelings for Angela.
After all, there hadn't been any rumors about him, so maybe he already had someone else in mind.
"Laurel, are you here to buy clothes?" Angela asked, her gaze turning toward me.
"Alex said he's taking me back to Newton City tomorrow," I replied, pausing and wrinkling my nose slightly. "He said we're meeting his mom and dad."
"Seriously?" Angela's face lit up with excitement, her whole body buzzing with energy.
She clutched my arm, her smile growing wider. "Does this mean your wedding is close?"
"Or it could mean we'll break up."
"It won't happen." Angela shot me a sidelong glance. "Raphael's always valued Mr. Herrera. Both Raphael and Lena will like you, as long as Mr. Herrera likes you."
"Have you forgotten about the connection between the Harvey family and the Herrera family?" I asked.
Angela went silent for a moment before saying, "Don't worry. If he wants to take you to his family, he must have already made up his mind."
"I hope so," I replied softly, but thinking of Alex's indifferent demeanor, I didn't think he had made any preparations at all.
"Don't you need to buy a gift when you meet your future in-laws for the first time? Do you know what they like?" Angela asked seriously.
"Gift?" I thought for a moment and shook my head.
Angela gave me a suspicious look. "Didn't Alex ask you to prepare a gift for them?"
"He didn't bring a gift for my mom when he came to my house," I said.
Angela rolled her eyes and poked my head. "Laurel, you're really something. He gave you a house in Honeydew Estate, a gift most people couldn't afford, and he even found a job for Maliyah with a guaranteed salary of 3,000 dollars a month! My dad didn't even pay me that much when I joined his company."
I nodded, acknowledging that Angela had a point.
This did seem a big gift. I turned to her and said, "But I don't have the money for a gift that expensive."
Besides, whatever gift I brought might just be tossed aside, so why waste the money?
Even though the money wasn't mine, that didn't mean I could splurge.
"Why don't you call Mr. Herrera?" Angela suggested.
I shook my head, unwilling to make myself look foolish.
With Alex's character, if there was really a need to buy a gift, he would have done it a long time ago. There was no need for me to bother.
"Laurel, gifts are important," Angela said, tugging me toward the luxury counter.
But I didn't recognize any of the brands. After all, when I went to meet Austin's parents for the first time, I had to spend half a year's savings just to buy a gift, and it didn't seem like Amanda liked me any more for it.
She was far happier with the limited edition Hermes bag I got through my connections.
When we reached the jewelry store, I stopped in my tracks, thinking the ruby I had bought at auction might be worth a fair bit of money.
I was about to go in and inquire when I saw Samantha approaching.
I almost forgot this was one of the stores of her family.
To be precise, 80% of the jewelry stores in Nifelheim City were owned by the Harvey family.
So, meeting her here wasn't that surprising after all.
"Miss Parks, are you here to buy jewelry?" Samantha asked in a gentle tone, walking straight up to me with a graceful, drop-dead gorgeous smile.
"Miss Harvey, you're overestimating me. I was wondering if this store recycles jewelry?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.
Angela and Samantha both froze in surprise.
"Does it not recycle jewelry here?" I asked.
"We do recycle jewelry," Samantha replied, glancing meaningfully at the bracelet I was wearing. "I'll take the one on your wrist too if you need."
"Not this one. I'll have to return it." I sighed softly, my eyes full of helplessness. "After all, this bracelet is meant for Alex's future wife, and I've kept it long enough."
A flash of dismay crossed Samantha's face, and she looked at me, seemingly at a loss for words.
Before she could gather herself, I lowered my voice and said, "Miss Harvey, I may have been foolish in the past. If I've offended you in any way, please, just let it go."
Samantha's expression flickered with confusion for a second, but it was quickly replaced with a knowing smile. "Looks like you've figured things out, Miss Parks."
I nodded calmly.
"One must know one's place," Samantha said, taking a check from her bag and swiftly writing 4 million dollars on it. Without hesitation, she handed it to me.
"As long as you leave Alex, I'll pay you every penny of what I promised," she said.
"I can't take this money," I replied, clearing my throat and pulling the ruby from my bag. "I was wondering... how much do you think this ruby is worth?"
