                    I greeted, "Hello, Linda."
Linda replied, "Good. You look like a bright and clever one."
"Aunt Linda, don't be fooled by her! That certificate must be fake!" Rosemary hurriedly spoke up.
I lifted my gaze to her, a cold smile flashing in my eyes as I asked, "Why are you so certain it's fake?"
Rosemary frowned. "How could Uncle Alex possibly marry you?"
I raised a hand and rubbed my forehead. "So, you think I'm not as good as Samantha, so Alex wouldn't marry me?"
"Of course. Do you think you can compare to Samantha?" Austin's voice dripped with mockery.
I gave him a long, meaningful look before sighing and rubbing my forehead again. "You seem to like Samantha quite a lot. Do you think everyone is like you, always chasing after the new and abandoning the old?"
Then, I turned to Rosemary with a look of deep regret.
She froze for a moment, caught off guard.
Austin quickly retorted, "Laurel, stop slandering me!"
I frowned. "You were the one who said I can't compare to Samantha. Now you're denying it? Did I accidentally expose what's really on your mind?"
Austin choked on his words, his face darkening as he fell silent.
But I understood. With Samantha's family background, beauty, and elegance, she was the kind of woman any man would desire.
Especially Austin. Whenever he stood next to Samantha, his eyes would unconsciously drift toward her.
Perhaps he had long harbored impure thoughts about her, but since Samantha had been engaged to Alex, he hadn't dared to make a move.
Austin never expected me to expose his dirty little secret in front of everyone. Of course, he wouldn't be willing to admit.
Especially with his beloved little "sister" standing right there, someone who had admired him for years.
Amanda, who had been fuming just moments ago, suddenly brightened up and walked over to Austin.
She asked, "Austin, do you really like the Harvey family's daughter?"
"Mom." Austin didn't answer directly. He didn't want to deny it, but in a setting like this, he certainly wasn't going to admit it either.
After all, with his current status, Samantha was far beyond his reach. Besides, he still refused to believe the marriage certificate in my hands.
Seeing his silence, Rosemary looked visibly unsettled. Her eyes were filled with doubt and panic.
I smiled, struggling to suppress my amusement. She was finally getting nervous.
If Austin truly had feelings for Samantha, then how would Rosemary ever dare to act high and mighty in front of Samantha in the future? How could she possibly snatch anything from her?
She might even have to carefully watch Samantha's expression before making a move, living cautiously under her shadow.
Rosemary snapped, "Mom, Miss Harvey is engaged to Uncle Alex. How could Austin possibly like her? And this marriage certificate must be fake! There's no way Uncle Alex would get married without telling anyone!"
Rosemary quickly reminded Amanda that I had fabricated everything, deliberately using a fake marriage certificate to create conflict between Austin and Alex over Samantha.
On the surface, she seemed to be acting out of goodwill. But in reality, she was afraid.
She was afraid that the certificate in my hand was real. Even more afraid that Austin had truly fallen for someone else.
"That's right, Mom. How could I possibly have feelings for Samantha? Don't listen to Laurel' nonsense." Austin finally spoke up.
Had he noticed that Rosemary was upset? Was that why he was speaking now?
"If you really have any thoughts about Samantha, I suggest you put an end to them." Alex's cold voice carried a faint, elegant scent as it drifted into my senses.
Rosemary's eyes instantly lit up with a smile. She stared at me intently, her expression filled with satisfaction and a barely concealed thrill.
Rosemary said, "Mom, I told you the marriage certificate was fake. How could Uncle Alex choose not to marry the Harvey family's heiress and instead marry Austin's ex-girlfriend?"
Rosemary quickly grabbed Amanda's arm, acting as if she had done something remarkable. If it weren't for her so-called reminder, it was as if Austin would have immediately snatched Samantha away.
She even took the opportunity to bring up the past again, deliberately reminding everyone present that I was merely the woman Austin had discarded. That Alex would never marry me.
"Uncle Alex, I'll throw Laurel out right now." Austin reached out to push me away. But Alex stepped in front of me, shielding me behind him.
"What do you think you're doing?" Alex furrowed his brows. His expression darkened as he looked at Austin.
"Alex, Laurel said that you and she got married. She doesn't seem to be lying," Linda quickly chimed in.
Alex smiled faintly, saying nothing as he walked over to me and held out his palm.
I placed the marriage certificate in his hand.
Without a word, he reached into the inner pocket of his suit and pulled out an identical marriage certificate.
He asked, "It's real. Does anyone want to take a look?"
Silence fell over the room. No one spoke.
After all, with Alex himself confirming its authenticity, they didn't need to confirm by themselves.
He said, "Austin, I said that because I don't want you to think that you can chase after Samantha just because I took your ex-girlfriend.
"The marriage between the Herrera family and the Harvey family was originally arranged by me and the Herrera family's eldest daughter, Gracie. It has nothing to do with Samantha."
Then, Alex turned to Amanda. "Aunt Amanda, I know you've always wanted to find a well-matched daughter-in-law. You can choose between the Parks family in Wadiff City and the Harvey family. Consider it my way of compensating you."
After he finished, everyone exchanged glances.
No one had expected that Austin would be given the opportunity to choose between the heiresses of the Harvey and Parks families. Both were from prominent families.
Whichever he chose, he would be the one benefiting.
Amanda's face immediately lit up with joy. She held onto Austin's hand and asked in a hushed tone, "Austin, do you prefer the young lady from the Parks family or the heiress of the Harvey family?"
Austin seemed too stunned to react, while Rosemary seemed to regain a bit of clarity after her shock.
She asked, "Austin, is there no one among them that you like?"
Amanda glanced at Rosemary before quickly saying, "Your brother is just having trouble deciding."
Then she turned to Alex, her face full of eager anticipation. "Is this engagement real?"
Alex said, "Of course. The marriage between the Harvey and Herrera families was arranged by the elders, so it's undoubtedly real. As for the engagement with the Parks family, they'll be visiting our father tomorrow."
Alex added, "They mentioned wanting to collaborate with Herrera Group, using marriage as a way to develop the Nifelheim City's industrial park project together."
At the mention of the industrial park, Austin's eyes flashed with a strange emotion. Just as he was about to speak, Alex turned toward me and handed me a car key. "Let Lawrence help you get the gift in your car."
I nodded and was just about to leave when I heard a soft cough behind me. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw an old man in a wheelchair and a woman slowly emerging from the elevator.
