Leah clenched her fists tightly, her eyes fixed on me with a piercing glare before she made a phone call.
Within two minutes, two burly men dressed in black walked in through the door. They stood respectfully by her side.
One of them stepped forward and asked, "Miss Herrera, what are your orders?"
Leah took a deep breath, a contemptuous smirk appearing on her face. "Hold her down and slap her face until I'm satisfied. Anyone who dares to interfere, beat them too!"
Hector was frightened, but he still shielded me behind him, reaching into his jacket pocket. However, before he could retrieve anything, Leah snatched it from him and slammed it to the ground before shoving him aside.
Hector staggered back a couple of steps, and I quickly reached out to support him.
At that moment, the commotion inside the house caught the attention of the servants, who rushed out.
But the moment they saw Leah, their faces were filled with terror. It seemed that Leah had a history of throwing her weight around here.
"You even dare to lay a hand on me? You've got no sense of limits! I'll teach you a lesson on behalf of the Herrera family!" Leah's sharp gaze locked onto me, as if she wanted to skin me alive.
Hector grasped my arm and shouted sternly, "I dare any of you to touch her! She is Mr. Alex Herrera's wife!"
The two men behind Leah hesitated for a moment, their advancing steps coming to a halt.
"Hector, are you losing your mind in your old age? You're actually willing to offend me for an outsider?" Leah glared at him coldly. She snapped, "Has the Herrera family acknowledged her? Does a lowly wench like her even deserve to set foot in our home?
"Drag this annoying old man aside! Hold this filthy woman down! If you don't dare to do it, I will! I'd like to see what Alex can do after I beat her to death!"
Hector frantically positioned himself in front of me. He was trying to speak, but one of the men grabbed him and shoved him aside.
In the struggle, Hector fell heavily to the ground.
Leah looked down at him with not a trace of pity, raising her foot and ruthlessly stomping on Hector's hand.
Hector said, "Miss Leah Herrera, if you're angry, take it out on me! Please don't hurt Mrs. Herrera."
"Hector, you can't even protect yourself, yet you're still pleading for her?" Leah let out a cold laugh. "How ridiculous."
She pressed her foot down even harder.
"Are you nuts?" I stepped forward quickly, but one of the men grabbed my arm.
I hadn't expected Leah to be so vicious. Seeing the arrogant expression on her face, I couldn't hold back. I yanked my arm free with a sudden force.
The man clearly hadn't expected my strength to be this great. Perhaps he had been holding back, hesitant to use too much force when restraining me.
I lunged forward and tackled Leah to the ground.
She didn't expect that I didn't want to push her away, but directly pressed her to the ground. Before she could react, I straddled her and began slapping her face back and forth.
After slapping her a few times, the two men behind me pulled me off Leah.
Meanwhile, a few courageous servants took advantage of the distraction to help Hector up and bring him inside the house.
"You... you wretched bitch!" Leah clutched her now swollen face, glaring at me venomously.
She snapped, "Take her down!"
"Stop it!" A stern voice rang out. Lawrence strode over in just a few steps toward me.
He shouted, "Are the two of you trying to get yourselves killed? Let go of Mrs. Laurel Herrera's hand!"
The two bodyguards looked up at Lawrence, then at Leah, hesitating.
Neither Alex nor Leah was someone they could afford to offend.
Just as Lawrence was about to take action, Leah grabbed an umbrella from the side and swung the handle toward his head.
I shouted, "Watch out."
Immediately, Lawrence failed to dodge in time. The black walnut umbrella handle struck his head hard.
A dull thud echoed, the handle snapped, and blood streamed down Lawrence's head. Guilt weighed heavily on me.
His back injury hadn't even healed, and now his head was hurt too.
It seemed like we were completely incompatible. Whenever he was around me, bloodshed followed.
Leah showed no fear at the sight of his injury. Instead, she smiled mockingly. "This is what happens when you cross me."
Lawrence wiped the blood off his forehead, completely ignoring her words.
He turned around. "Let her go. If you stop now, I can convince Mr. Alex Herrera to spare you. But if you insist on being reckless, he'll cut your hands."
The two men immediately released me, their faces filled with panic before they quickly turned and fled the villa.
Leah hadn't expected her bodyguards to be so spineless, running off after just a few words from Lawrence.
"You wretched bitch! I won't let you off!" she spat venomously.
Meanwhile, her assistant stood frozen, completely shocked by everything that had just happened. It took her a long moment to snap back to reality and move toward Leah.
But before she could get close, Leah shoved her away in disgust. "Get lost! Don't ever show your useless face in front of me again!"
The assistant stood there helplessly, not knowing what to do. This was the outskirts of town. There wasn't even a taxi to hail.
The people who lived here were all wealthy and powerful, each with their own private transportation.
It wasn't until Leah got into her car and drove off that Lawrence finally lost his strength and dropped to one knee.
I said, "Don't just stand there. Help him up."
The assistant quickly reached out to support Lawrence.
I hesitated for a moment. I hadn't been talking to her. I had been speaking to the other people still hiding inside the house.
"Mrs. Herrera, are you alright?" Hector looked at me with deep concern.
I replied, "I'm fine. Do you have anything to stop the bleeding?"
Seeing Lawrence's blood-covered face and alarmingly pale complexion, Hector immediately tried to stand and fetch the medical kit.
But after just two steps, I noticed he had twisted his ankle.
"Where is the first aid kit? I'll get it." The assistant hurried over to Hector, asking urgently.
Hector said, "In the living room, bottom right drawer under the TV cabinet."
Without hesitation, the assistant ran toward the living room.
Hector looked at me with guilt in his eyes. "Mrs. Herrera, this is my fault. I failed to protect you."
I was just about to speak when the phone rang.
A servant answered it, then walked over to me with a cautious expression. "Mrs. Herrera, it's Mr. Herrera. He wants you to take the call."
