"Good morning, Madam. Mr. Herrera is waiting for you to have breakfast together,"said a middle-aged woman walking out of the kitchen, giving me a warm smile. I was momentarily stunned.
"Nancy will be taking care of your daily life moving on," said Alex while I seated opposite him. "You don't have to go back and forth; just go next door directly.
"Wendy, in charge of cleaning, is next door. There's also a chef." Alex sipped his coffee and continued, "Nancy is responsible for household cleaning and making us breakfast in the morning. As for dinner, we'll eat at Mom's place as much as possible."
I nodded. Not having to do cleaning myself was quite nice. But I knew Alex's real intention was to have someone keep an eye on me. After breakfast, I glanced at the clock on the wall and said, "I'm heading to work."
"I'll send you," Alex stood up and said.
"But isn't there..." Before I could finish my sentence, Alex had already grabbed the car keys and walked out of the dining room. I had no choice but to pick up my bag and follow him.
Alex did not ask about work-related matters as if he had expected it. When the car was near the Seastar Hotel, I told him to stop. "Just drop me off here. I'll walk in myself," I said.
"What time do you get off work? I'll pick you up. And don't forget, we'll go back to Newton City this weekend for two days."
My hand froze on the car door handle. "You don't have to pick me up tonight. I'll head back myself," I said.
Alex glanced at me coldly and said, "Let me know in advance when you get off work."
I frowned slightly and could not help but feel amused. Wendy was already monitoring me at home, and now he wanted to monitor my commute. Did he really think I was going to cheat on him? If I really wanted to, would monitoring make a difference?
After getting out of the car and watching the black Maybach drive away, I heaved a sigh of relief. Suddenly, I felt the urge to talk to Angela to vent my frustration, and just before I reached the Seastar Hotel, I remembered Sophina.
Just as I was about to call her, I saw Sophina walk quickly toward me from the hotel entrance. "Mrs. Herrera, I was wondering when you'd arrive. Did Mr. Herrera send you here?" Sophina smiled brightly. "No wonder you're not afraid of him at all; he treats you so well."
I snickered. A man like him, surrounded by women, was only sending me himself because he was afraid I would make a cuckold out of him. He would not be so considerate otherwise.
"Why are you here?" I looked at Sophina in doubt and asked.
"Mr. Herrera made Lawrence send me over," Sophina said.
I felt a sharp twitch in my glabella. Alex, that sly fox, had not even asked me, yet he somehow knew I would take over Angela's work. I even suspected he had installed listening devices or tracking systems on me.
"Mrs. Herrera, what's the matter with you?" asked Sophina.
"Don't call me Mrs. Herrara. Just call me Laurel from now on," I said. Sophina hesitated.
"We haven't made public our marriage yet. Moreover, I'm merely working at Seastar Hotel," I said. Sophina nodded but seemed to hold back from saying something.
Actually, even without her asking, I knew what was on her mind. Why would I choose to work at Seastar Hotel instead of being Mrs. Herrara? Even if I did not want to be a full-time housewife, I could have just joined the Herrera Group.
You must be kidding! I had no interest in being under Alex's watch day and night. Moreover, the Parks family wanted to take over the Adams family's assets, and their first target would undoubtedly be the Adams family's national hotel chain, Seastar Hotel.
When I walked into Seastar Hotel with Sophina, the front desk staff was not surprised to see me. However, she was stunned when she heard I was looking for Casey Anthony as if she did not expect the Adams Group's new Marketing Manager to be me.
"Miss Parks, please wait a moment. I'll inform Ms. Anthony," she said.
"Alright," I responded.
A special access card was required to enter the hotel's administrative area. After waiting for less than 10 minutes, a young man dressed in a black suit with delicate features, appearing less than 30 years old, walked straight up to me.
I was momentarily stunned. Wasn't Casey a woman? I did not expect her to be a man.
"Hello, I'm Casey," she said.
Hearing the voice, I reached out to hold her hands. "Hello, I'm Laurel."
Casey glanced at Sophina beside me. When I turned around, I saw Sophina staring at Casey in awe, her expression a mix of admiration and shock.
"This is my assistant, Sophina," I said, tugging at Sophina's arm.
Only then did Sophina snap out of it and ask, "You're a woman?"
Casey smiled and nodded. "Yes," she said.
Sophina's dark eyes sparkled as she blurted out. "You're so handsome!"
"Thanks. Shall we head upstairs to talk?" Casey glanced at me and asked. I nodded, and before I could react, Sophina had already positioned herself right next to Casey.
Was this girl confused? Did she forget whose assistant she was supposed to be?But I must admit that men did not stand a chance when a woman looked cool.
Casey gave me an overview of the hotel operations before asking, "Ms. Parks, feel free to ask me if there is anything. There isn't much work as the daily sales and monthly reports will be prepared for you. The only real challenge is the security system."
"You don't have to worry about that. Just set me up with a computer and an account, and I can check everything at any time. If there's any issue, I'll deal with it immediately. The hotel's firewall is strong, so it's not easy for outsiders to hack in," I said.
"You..." Casey looked at me with suspicion.
I smiled and said, "Angela and I built the entire Seastar system including the backend. So rest assured, I can handle any technical issues at all. As for operations and management, the hotel managers must put in effort.
"Don't worry. The hotel has been running for years with a well-established system. Everything will be fine as long as customer satisfaction and occupancy rates remain stable.
"I'll be in Newton City for two days starting Monday to take care of some personal matters."
Casey chuckled and said, "Ms. Parks, you're not a hotel staff but a person in charge. You don't need to report your schedule to me. Ms. Adams has told me to support you in any way you need, not just work-related matters."
I nodded, feeling a bit surprised. I did not expect Jamilah to trust me so unconditionally.
"Nancy will be taking care of your daily life moving on," said Alex while I seated opposite him. "You don't have to go back and forth; just go next door directly.
