Abigail looked at the influencer-faced lady with great interest and asked with a bright smile, "Queenie, what good idea do you have?"
Queenie sized me up with disdain in her eyes before shifting her gaze to Sophina, who stood behind me. She frowned slightly, and her face was instantly full of disbelief. "I wondered why you looked so familiar just now. Aren't you the tag-along of Miss Herrera? What are you doing here?" she exclaimed.
"No need to guess. Leah must have fired her," Abigail sneered and said.
"Seriously, even trash like you dares to come to such a high-class place! How much money do you two have?" Queenie said, swaying her hips as she approached me, and her bright red lips curled into a contemptuous smile. ^=^ "If you don't want to kneel and apologize, fine. Just leave Sophina here to serve us for two days, or you don't even think about leaving."
I was stunned for a moment and laughed in disbelief. "How much money we have in our pockets is none of your damn business." I frowned slightly and pulled Sophina's hand. "Let's go somewhere else to eat," I said.
It was not that I was afraid of these spoiled rich ladies. I just did not want to cause trouble at Seastar Hotel, especially on my first day at work. If I caused trouble, it could negatively impact the hotel.
We could at least avoid them if we could not afford to provoke them. However, before we could leave, Abigail blocked our way again. "Are you scared? Trying to run away?" She sneered, her deep brown eyes filled with mockery and malice.
Although the Cole family was not among the four major families in Nifelheim City, its influence was not weak, especially with the backing of the Harvey family.
My mother had always taught me never to stir up trouble outside, and I understood why. She was afraid I might attract unnecessary attention by offending the wrong people.
After all, these young ladies of wealthy families always appeared elegant and generous to those of equal status. However, when it came to the people of lower status, their eyes were filled with nothing but disdain and disgust, even just a glance.
"Why? You can't bear to let Sophina serve us? Why don't you do it instead? You're pretty good at serving people, aren't you? Otherwise, you wouldn't have climbed into Mr. Herrera's bed," said Abigail, anger flashing in her deep eyes.
"Letting you serve us is an honor for you; don't be ungrateful."
"That's right. Do you even know your place? How dare you compete with Samantha for a man? You're really overestimating yourself." The two socialites standing beside Abigail chimed in.
"You guys have gone too far." Sophina could not hold back anymore and spoke up for me.
"Sophina, we're talking here. Why did you interrupt? Who do you think you are?" Queenie's face suddenly darkened, and she swung her hand to slap Sophina.
However, her hand stopped mid-air. I reached out and shoved her hand away. Queenie's expression changed drastically as she stared at me in disbelief. "You dare to push me?"
"Miss Brown, this is Seastar Hotel. Cameras are everywhere, and with so many people watching, aren't you afraid of ruining your reputation?" I met Queenie's furious gaze with a gentle smile and said.
Queenie paused, then suddenly chuckled. "Oh yes, I almost forgot. This is the Seastar Hotel. Once my dad signs the contract today, half of the Seastar Hotel will be mine," said she.
I was momentarily stunned. Abigail smiled at me and said, "Laurel, don't you know why Angela suddenly left the country? It's because her parents are getting divorced. I heard her father has an illegitimate son outside.
"And Michael has already decided to sell off 40% of Seastar Hotel's shares after diving the assets."
I was shocked upon hearing her words. Michael wanted to sell the Seastar Hotel. Did he mean to cut ties with Jamilah completely? I found it utterly ridiculous.
Jamilah had given 40% of the company's shares to Michael in consideration of him being a decent father. But who would have thought that he would turn around and sell them to someone else?
I took a deep breath and reached for my phone in my pocket. But before I could do anything, Abigail snatched it away. "What do you think you're doing? Trying to verify the information?" she asked.
Then she glanced sideways at Queenie and said, "The contract hasn't been signed yet. Why did you tell her this?"
"Abigail, do you really think she can do anything about the Adams family's decisions?" Queenie scoffed at me and said. Abigail thought about it and seemed to agree with her.
"Give me back my phone," I looked at Abigail calmly and said. Though I was anxious deep down, I did not show it on my face.
Angela had poured her heart and soul into Seastar Hotel for its achievement today. She had only just passed away, and yet the father she had loved so deeply was already planning to sell it away.
Michael was a fool. If it weren't for Jamilah, the Adams family would have never reached this level of success.
Even if he did not sell the Seastar Hotel to the Parks family, thinking that selling it to the Brown family would be a safe bet, he did not realize that the Brown family, despite their ties to the Harvey family, would ultimately prioritize their own interests over any familial bonds.
Moreover, the Brown family had invested a huge sum into the stock market. There was no way they had the capital to purchase the Adams family's shares right now. This was clearly just a trap to gain the Parks family's support.
Even if Jamilah held 60% of the Adams family's shares, if the Parks family manipulated the stock market, they could easily drive down the value of her shares. If the decline continued, it could hit the safety threshold, reducing the pledged stock's market value below the loan amount. That would break the capital chain and possibly push the entire Adams family into bankruptcy.
"You want your phone?" Queenie dangled it in front of me and asked. I reached for it, but she quickly kept it away.
Abigail casually flipped the hair on her forehead and said, "Queenie, why are you holding onto that cheap phone? I wouldn't take it even if it were a gift."
"Laurel, you can have your phone back, but you must apologize to Abigail first. How about it?" Queenie said.
I looked at Queenie, suppressing the anger boiling inside me, and said, "Abigail, I'm sorry. I was blind before. Please be generous and forgive me."
Hearing my apology, Abigail smiled sweetly and said, "Laurel, are you deaf, or do you have a bad memory? I've told you that if you want to apologize, you have to kneel."
"Laurel, they're just messing with you," Sophina pouted angrily. "I'm calling the police now. They stole your phone. Let's see how they talk their way out of this."
As soon as Sophina finished speaking, a loud "crack" echoed. Queenie dropped the phone to the ground.
"Oh no! Sophina, it's all your fault! Why did you scare me? Now the phone is broken," Queenie shrugged with an innocent expression and said.
