Sean did not say a word. He merely raised his head and glanced at me, and his expression changed instantly.
The next second, he turned around. Abigail instinctively stepped back. "Slap!"A loud slap landed on Queenie's face. She clutched her cheek, her eyes widening in disbelief as she stared at Sean. "Mr. Reynolds, you... why did you slap me?"
Abigail also looked at Sean in shock. In an instant, her cold and sharp gaze fell upon me, filled with hatred. She clearly did not expect Sean to slap Queenie before the eyes of so many people just because of a single sentence from me.
"Sean, she's just trying to stir up trouble, you..." Abigail was cut off by Sean's icy glare, which made her freeze before she could finish speaking.
Sean slightly raised his chin, a faint smile displaying at the corners of his lips. "Miss Parks, can you leave with me now?" he asked.
"I'm still not over it. The one who slapped me wasn't Queenie; it was your dear cousin," I said, raising my eyes and looking directly at Abigail, my gaze full of provocation.
No one knew Sean better than I did. To be precise, he was not even human. He was nothing more than a beast who thought using his lower half. With the power and influence of the Reynolds family, any woman he set his eyes on had no chance of escaping his grasp.
Fortunately, he had a high standard. Otherwise, many innocent women would have suffered. As for why he slapped Queenie, it was simply because the Brown family was the weakest among everyone present.
The Brown family had some distant connections to the Cole and Harvey families. On the surface, they seemed closely linked, but in reality, the Cole and Harvey families never truly regarded the Brown family as their equal. As for the Reynolds family, they did not even take the Brown family seriously.
I did not know much about the young lady of the Brown family, but growing up in Nifelheim City, I knew well that wealthy and powerful families were not to be offended.
My mother had told me from a young age. There were certain people that ordinary folk like us could never afford to provoke.
But looking at it now, if my mother had truly been just an ordinary person, how would she have known about the entanglements within these prestigious families?
"Sean, don't believe a word she says! This woman is deliberately trying to ruin our relationship!" Abigail scolded angrily, her eyes filled with resentment as she glared at me.
I casually glanced at my phone and realized the screen was completely broken. My heart skipped a beat. The message I sent earlier should have gone through.
I did not know if Jamilah had received it, but since today was the weekend, even if they wanted to finalize the divorce procedures, it would not be possible for now.
Even though Michael had signed a contract with the Brown family, the transfer of the Adams Group's shares still needed to be completed before the deal could be finalized. I could only hope that Jamialh could come up with a solution within the following two days.
"Time's up." I grabbed Sophina's hand, ready to leave, but Sean blocked my way.
"Miss Parks, I've already helped you vent your anger. The least you could do is stay for a drink with me," Sean smiled at me and said.
At that moment, Kent, standing behind him, chimed in, "Isn't Miss Parks on her way to dinner? With Mr. Reynolds here, do you think anyone would dare to mess with you?"
"Sophina, you should head back first," I said, giving Sophina a meaningful look.Sophina shook her head hurriedly. "You still have work this afternoon, don't you? Just go back first," I insisted.
Sophina was stunned for a long time before she finally nodded. I watched as she entered the elevator and heaved a sigh of relief.
I did not want to drag Sophina into an unnecessary struggle. She had no background to protect her, and if she offended Sean, he would never let her off easily. Moreover, she had her sister to take care of.
Sean seemed pleased and smiled as I obediently followed him into the restaurant's private room. Abigail, on the other hand, looked at me with mockery as if she could not believe I would follow Sean so submissively into the restaurant.
"Helena." At the mention of that name, Abigail suddenly stopped in her tracks, her brows furrowing. "That sickly girl? How could she possibly be here?"
Queenie, a hand still covering her cheek, glanced toward the slightly open private room door and was instantly distracted. "Abigail, it really is your elder sister," she said.
"Elder sister? Is she even worthy?" said Abigail. Curious, I looked over and saw a woman sitting quietly at the dining table, wearing a pale green dress. The private room was large, making her appear lonely.
Sensing Abigail's gaze, the woman slowly turned her head around. Her eyes, however, held no surprise, but only calm indifference as she met the gazes of the people standing at the door.
It was her. The woman I saw yesterday, nestled in Alex's arms. "Abigail," she called out."
Abigail's expression slightly stiffened. "What a damn nuisance! Helena, what are you doing here? I thought you were too sick to even get out of bed," said Abigail.
The people in the surroundings turned their gazes toward Helena, scrutinizing her."Abigail, so she's the illegitimate daughter your father has? She does look quite pretty, but what a shame, she's a jinx. She killed her own mother the moment she was born," Queenie said.
Queenie, still fuming, redirected all her anger onto Helena. A wave of realization hit me; so she was the Cole family's illegitimate daughter. No wonder Alex protected her so well. She looked so fragile, with a delicate and pitiful appearance.
She was quite good-looking. She had an exquisitely featured face, bright and clear eyes like twinkling stars, flawless skin, and a barely noticeable beauty mole at the corner of her eye, adding an icy elegance, like a snowflake in the dead of winter.
Her figure was just as captivating, with a slender waist that could be held in one hand and long, smooth legs. She had a gentle yet alluring demeanor; she was a true beauty.
"What a waste," Sean sighed, his eyes locked onto Helena. "Such a stunning woman, yet so frail."
Standing beside me, Kent remained unimpressed. Suddenly, his hand landed on my waist. I stiffened and frowned slightly.
"Sean, if you're interested in that woman, why not just give me the one next to you?" Kent's voice was not loud, but it was loud enough for everyone in the room to hear clearly.
Sean turned to look at Kent, then chuckled thoughtfully. "Kent, I didn't expect you to like this type of woman," he said.
Hearing that, Abigail's face darkened instantly. She glanced at me disdainfully and said, "Just as I thought, nothing but a seductress."
I smiled faintly, glanced at Kent, and said, "Mr. Rogers, are you mistaken? When did I become his woman?" With that, I quickly stepped back, only to bump into someone behind me.
I turned around, and just as I was about to apologize, I met with the darkest expression. "Move," Alex said coldly. A chill ran through me. Was he... angry?
The moment Sean saw Alex, his face flashed with shock as if he never expected him to be here. "Alex, what are you doing in Nifelheim City?" Abigail asked in surprise.
Seeing Alex completely ignore me, she smirked, her lips could not help but curl into a gloating smile.
