When Abigail saw Alex sit down next to Helena, her expression froze instantly. She looked horrible.
"Abigail, Alex accompanied me to the hospital today. I felt like eating the food here, so we came here. Why don't we all sit together?" Helena spoke in a weak voice, pausing twice halfway, looking quite sick.
Before Abigail could respond, Sean quickly said, "Since Helena has invited us, it's impolite to refuse. Let's all sit together." As he spoke, Sean subtly observed Alex, who was sitting beside Helena.
Anyone who wanted to do business in Newton City would first want to meet Alex. Likewise, if someone wanted to do business in Wadiff City would need to visit the Parks family.
Neither Alex nor the Parks family were people that just anyone could associate with. However, things were different now. Ever since the government started attracting investments to expand Nifelheim City, and Alex decided to set up a branch of the Herrera Group there, many companies were eager to form ties with the Herrera Group. ^=^ Even just getting a small share would ensure business prosperity for the next decade. More importantly, it would open doors to Newton City.
Sean was more than happy to have the opportunity to sit at the same table as Alex. "Mr. Herrera, you don't mind, do you?" Sean smiled at Alex and asked. Seeing that Alex did not immediately wave them away, he quickly pulled Abigail to sit down.
I furrowed my brows slightly. Wasn't he supposed to have a cleanliness obsession? It did not seem too severe. Or maybe it only applied to people he disliked? But he did not seem quite like Sean either.
"Alex, you're not angry, are you? I haven't seen Abigail for a long time." Before Helena could finish speaking, she suddenly frowned.
Alex quickly handed her the glass beside his hand. Helena took the glass and sipped from it. She then froze slightly, looking a little embarrassed, and said, "Alex, I think this glass is yours."
"It's fine," Alex said. His voice was so soft and gentle as if the person sitting next to him was not a human but a dandelion, and he was afraid a louder voice might blow her away.
"Mr. Herrera, do you remember me?" Sean asked.
"Of course, I do. You're the eldest son of the Reynolds family. How could I forget?" Alex said. He glanced at Sean, then, seemingly unintentionally, glanced at me before furrowing his brows slightly.
Sean was somewhat wary of Alex, so he did not seat me next to him. Kent sat on his left, while Abigail was on his right. I ended up sitting next to Kent.
To be honest, I did not know Kent well, but he looked familiar like I had seen him somewhere before.
"Mr. Herrera, let me introduce someone. This is Kent Rogers, a friend of mine. He owns a film company and has many celebrities and resources under him. He also deals with other highly profitable ventures." Sean hesitated slightly before he finished speaking.
Alex nodded and smiled faintly. "Kent? Mr. Rogers? You must be a friend of Austin," he said.
Hearing the words "Mr. Roger," I felt a shiver run down my spine, and my heart started pounding. Mr. Rogers knew Austin. So, would he be the one who wanted to buy my virginity from Austin back then?
I raised my head and looked at Kent. The corners of his eyelids were slightly raised. His nose bridge was high and straight, and his eyes were cold.
He was at least 30 years old, but he did not look like one. With his looks, he could easily get any woman he wanted, not to mention he was running a film company. He had seen all kinds of beautiful women, so how could it be...
Yet, the more I thought it was impossible, the more unsettled I felt, because he dared to compete with Sean for me. Was he trying to save me? Or had he seen me before?
"Yes, I've known Austin for many years." As he spoke, Kent glanced at me. I clenched my hands together, my breath slightly unsteady.
"Then don't you know Laurel?" Queenie suddenly asked curiously, a sly smile revealed on the corners of her lips. "She used to be Austin's girlfriend. Have you both met before?"
Kent lowered his eyes and sighed lightly. "Yes, I've seen her but unfortunately, Miss Parks never met me."
The corners of my mouth twitched. "Really?" I asked.
"Yes, I had wanted to take you away from Austin back then." Kent grinned, revealing a small dimple on his left cheek as he said. "With such good looks, it would be a shame not to go into acting."
Sean chuckled awkwardly and said, "Looks like you're again a step too late."
"It's not too late. As long as Miss Parks is willing, I can still make her a star," Kent said, looking at me.
"Looks like I'll have to drink a few more rounds with Mr. Rogers later," I said with a charming smile, glancing at Alex from the corner of my eye. His expression remained calm, showing no signs of displeasure.
That was right. If Alex cared about me, Sean would not have seated me here in the first place. To them, I was just a woman with no background, a disposable toy, no different from the women who accompany men at drinking tables.
Although Alex's presence was unexpected, Kent's appearance gave me a clue. If I could make him drunk, perhaps I could uncover the truth about the past.
With that in mind, I slowly stood up. "Excuse me, I need to use the restroom." After speaking, I walked out the door.
Sean was not worried that I would run away. After all, Nifelheim City was not that big, and in their eyes, I was just a woman who was obsessed with wealth and status.
As I left the restroom, I noticed Queenie following closely behind me. As we brushed past each other, she turned back to glance at me and snorted coldly.
When Queenie returned to the table, she suddenly stood up and said, "My ring is missing!"
"Queenie, weren't you still wearing it when you entered the private room?" Abigail asked.
"I was still wearing it on when I went to the restroom," said Queenie.
Queenie searched around her seat but could not find it. She suddenly raised her dark brown eyes and stared straight at me. "Laurel, you took my ring," she said.
I was stunned for a moment before saying, "I didn't take your ring."
"When I went to the restroom, you were the only person there. I remember placing my ring on the sink while washing my hands," Queenie frowned and said. "There was no one else there; it must be you."
I replied calmly, "Do you have any proof?"
"Proof? The ring must be with you. Laurel, if you return my ring now, I won't make a big deal out of this," Queenie said.
"I didn't take your ring," I said.
Queenie put on an aggrieved expression and said, "That ring was part of my mother's dowry. Even if you have found it, you shouldn't keep it for yourself."
"I didn't take it."
Abigail curled her lips into a mocking smile and said, "If you didn't take it, then let us search on you."
