After thinking about it, I realized that the Mr. Hawke I knew was none other than Gideon.
However, I did not have Gideon's number.
Sophina looked at me with a hesitant expression. After entering the elevator and seeing no one around, she asked, "Laurel, you won't divorce Mr. Herrera, will you?"
I held the ring carefully. It was almost identical to my own but had a better color. It must be expensive.
"No, we're... having fun." I chuckled and turned off the phone. "There are always unexpected accidents in marriage. It might even be a surprise."
Of course, it could also be a disaster, but I didn't tell Sophina the worst part of my relationship. After all, people still had to have beautiful expectations for their future lives, even if those expectations didn't exist.
A person who had been with me for six years betrayed me. So why would I believe the sincerity of a man I had only seen ten times at most? It was impossible unless I was crazy.
Money was more practical than sincerity to me. I didn't think money would taint love. It was love that tainted money.
I was too ignorant to exchange my name for 1.5 million dollars.
Of course, Alex still lost out on the deal by buying my life with 1.5 million dollars.
After putting my luggage away, I told Sophina to go out and explore. There was no need for her to follow me all the time.
I also gave her 1,000 dollars and asked her to buy me something to eat.
Sophina looked at the transfer record on her phone and asked carefully, "Laurel, what do you want to eat? What food would take so much money?"
I narrowed my eyes. "Buy me some snacks. The chocolate cake from last time tasted good. I don't want coffee. Order a glass of juice.
"As for the rest of the money, you can use it to go shopping and buy something to eat. Anyway, don't come back before five o'clock. I want to have a good sleep."
As I spoke, I pushed Sophina out.
After closing the door, I returned to my room and changed my clothes.
After taking a shower, I changed into a loose sportswear. I felt refreshed. But immediately after I walked into the living room, I felt sleepy.
Suddenly, the doorbell rang.
"Hello, room service." A sweet and pleasant voice sounded from outside the door.
After I opened the door, I saw a young waitress pushing a trolley in.
"Miss Parks, this is the food I prepared for you." The waitress maintained a polite smile.
"But I didn't order room service. Take the food away. I want to rest." As soon as I finished speaking, I felt my entire body go limp. I turned around and walked toward the room.
However, I had only taken a few steps when suddenly a hand covered my mouth, and everything went black before my eyes.
When I opened my eyes again, I found my hands and legs were tied up, a black cloth covering my eyes. The pungent smell of smoke filled the air around me.
I felt nauseous, and my stomach was churning. I was sleepy and hungry. It must have been almost four o'clock because I always got hungry at that time.
I missed Sophina and the snacks she bought.
The Herrera family would hold the birthday party in Newton City's most luxurious hotel. Many people said that they had booked an entire business hall.
The guests were outstanding people from all walks of life, wealthy ladies, and socialites.
However, I knew that with Amanda's stinginess, she must have thought that Austin would be able to become the Parks family's good son-in-law since she spent so much money on the birthday party.
I wondered if the driver Alex sent to pick me up would think I had left angrily when he didn't see me.
However, I was more curious about who the person who kidnapped me here was.
Did the Herrera family's people kidnap me here because they didn't want to reveal my identity? Or did Kailyn find out I had already registered my marriage with Alex and hate me because of her love for Alex? So, she wanted to teach me a lesson?
I didn't waste more time thinking about it because the cat-and-mouse game had just begun.
After about twenty minutes, two people walked in. They were men and smelled of smoke.
"I didn't expect you to be so quiet." A man's low and hoarse voice came from above my head. His tone was filled with disdain. I could imagine his condescending attitude.
"Bruce, this woman is so good-looking. Can I have some fun with her?" The other man spoke, his voice thick with vulgarity and excitement.
The surroundings were deathly silent. The man who was called Bruce did not speak for a long time.
"Bruce, I'll take that as a yes if you don't say anything." The lecherous man said excitedly again. He even reached out his rough hand and touched my face.
My heart skipped a beat. The calluses on that hand were very thick.
It seemed that this guy was not only lecherous but also rather powerful. After all, it was unlikely for an ordinary person to have such a thick layer of callus between their thumb and index finger.
"I can agree, but you have to think carefully." Bruce's lips curled into a smile.
Although I couldn't see his expression, I could feel his sinister gaze staring straight at me.
The hand that was pinching my chin suddenly paused. "Bruce, isn't it just a woman? I haven't had sex in a long time."
"He's Alex's wife." Bruce laughed again, not loudly. However, it could be heard clearly in the dead silence around us.
"Fuck!" The man who squatted down let go of me in exasperation and cursed, "Damn it, it wasn't easy for me to take a fancy to one, but it turned out to be his woman. Forget it, I don't even have the mood at the mention of him. It's not worth getting killed over a woman."
I frowned slightly, wondering if it was that sly old dog that these two desperadoes were afraid of.
Thinking about how I had taken 1.5 million dollars from him in a threatening manner, I felt a little uneasy.
"There's no hurry. When she dies, I'll give her to you. You can have fun at that time." Bruce's voice was pleasant, but the words that came out of his mouth were chilling.
I smiled. "My life is only in my own hands. As for yours..."
"Oh my, you're finally speaking? I thought you were mute." Bruce leaned down and gently touched my cheek.
It was a cold touch. He was wearing a pair of leather shoes and gloves. He was about 5.9 feet tall.
He deliberately lowered his voice so that I wouldn't be able to tell who he was.
There were only two reasons for him to do so. Either his voice was special, or he was someone close to me.
I took a deep breath and pretended to be calm. "Don't interrupt me. If you don't leave now, I'm afraid you won't be able to leave later."
"What... what do you mean?" Bruce asked.
"Do you know why I didn't call for help? I was stalling for time, waiting for someone to rescue me." I sighed softly. "Since you've told me so many secrets just now, I'll let you off this time, but only this once."
