"Laurel, do you really think Alex married you because he loves you?" Rosemary sat across from me, her voice rough, but still dripping with sarcasm and disdain.
I turned to look at Rosemary, who was sitting on the bed with a weary expression, dressed in a blue-striped hospital gown. I smiled at her.
"I know he doesn't love me, so what?" I replied slowly and calmly. "Austin loves you, but did he marry you? Don't worry though, his marriage with the Parks family will likely fall apart."
Rosemary looked at me warily. "What do you mean?"
I looked around and narrowed my eyes.
Looks like Kayden still has a soft spot for his daughter, or maybe it's guilt. Otherwise, how could a murderer like her end up in such a luxurious private room?
"Unfortunately, you won't be here for long," I said. "After all, you've ruined Austin's bright future. Even if Amanda doesn't send you abroad, she'll surely have you committed to a psychiatric hospital. Given her nature, you'd probably be stuck there for a long time."
Rosemary scoffed, clearly unconvinced by what I said.
After all, since their plan had failed the day before, she was certain that Austin would marry Kailyn.
"Stop trying to scare me," Rosemary retorted. "The Herrera family would never cancel the engagement with the Parks family."
Hearing Rosemary's words, I could not help but feel that I had overestimated her intelligence.
Seeing the disdain on my face, Rosemary belatedly realized what was going on and muttered softly, "The Parks family would never cancel the engagement with the Herrera family. This union benefits both families."
"Rosemary, you really are unbelievably stupid," I said.
Rosemary tilted her head, her expression darkening, and muttered softly, "I'm in this situation because of you, Laurel. When I leave here, I'll make you pay."
"Leave? Do you seriously think you'll have that chance?" I mocked, "You're getting what you deserve. Do you really think you can bribe Sophina, or that Kailyn would bother visiting you?"
Rosemary froze for a moment, a flicker of surprise flashing in her eyes. Her expression turned complicated as she stared at me. "You... you knew all along?"
"Yes, you and Kailyn planned everything, intending to destroy me. But unfortunately..." I smiled slightly and emphasized every word. "You brought this upon yourself."
Rosemary snorted coldly. "Do you know why Austin liked you back then? And why he has never brought you to meet his friends? Because besides your pretty face, you have nothing else to offer.
"As a woman from a poor family, you don't deserve Austin, and now you're trying to steal someone else's fiancé. How long do you think you can gloat? Even if Kailyn lets you off, the Parks family and the Harvey family won't let you off!"
I asked, "How do you still have time to worry about me? Did you call me here just to tell me this?" I frowned. "Wait, hold on... Are you trying to convince me to divorce Alex so Kailyn can have him, and then you can be with Austin?"
"Don't be ungrateful. I'm offering you a chance." Rosemary sneered.
I rolled my eyes at Rosemary. "Even if I and Alex get a divorce, do you really think he'll marry the daughter of the Parks family? I'll tell you this—without me or Kailyn, as long as Amanda is alive, you can never marry Austin.
"You said that I'm from a poor family? What do you think you are in the eyes of the Herrera family? If it weren't for your parents' inheritance, the Herrera family wouldn't have adopted you."
"Don't try to sow discord between me and the Herrera family," Rosemary said, a trace of hatred in her eyes. "Yes, my parents left me some inheritance, but it wasn't a large sum. A portion also went to my grandparents. I'm aware of all these."
I smiled at Rosemary. "Then do you know who your grandparents left their inheritance to?"
Rosemary furrowed her brows slightly. It was as if she had not expected me to mention her grandparents.
Perhaps, in her view, her grandparents did not particularly care for her and therefore would not leave their inheritance to her.
Even if they had left her their inheritance, it would not have been much.
I glanced at the time and decided I could not be bothered to continue this conversation with her.
"Kailyn won't come to see you, and the Herrera family won't either." Slowly, I stood up from my chair. "Because of you, the Herrera Group's stock prices plummeted. Do you know why?
"If you put all that effort you waste on men into yourself, would you have ended up like this? You keep calling that woman 'mom', but does she truly treat you like a daughter?
"Reflect on it—what have you learned in the years you've been with the Herrera family? What do you actually have to show for it?"
Rosemary was stunned for a moment, then quickly asked, "What do you mean by that?"
My lips curled into a smile, but I did not say anything.
"Stop right there, Laurel!" Rosemary raised her voice, glaring at me with bloodshot eyes. She really looked like a madwoman.
I paused, meeting her cold, furious stare. I said flatly, "Don't worry, someone will provide you with the answer soon enough."
"I won't let you off!" Rosemary growled, her voice husky but laced with menace and murderous intent.
I gave a faint nod, a small smile on my face. "I hope the next time you see me, you'll have the courage and guts to say that to my face."
As I opened the door, I turned back and gave her a meaningful smile. "I almost forgot something. Rosemary, do you know why Amanda believes that there's something going on between you and Austin?"
With one sentence, I silenced the enraged Rosemary.
Her face turned pale immediately, as if she had figured something out.
"Oh, by the way, I also have a video here that might jog your memory." I smiled faintly and took out my phone to show her the video.
Just as Rosemary lunged toward me from the bed, I quickly put my phone away. Rosemary, who had fallen to the floor, looked utterly pathetic. She was like a madwoman.
I lowered my gaze, my eyes fixed on Rosemary sprawled on the ground. I raised an eyebrow and said coldly, "Has Austin even visited you? Wasn't he deeply in love with you? Why has he suddenly become so... heartless?"
Rosemary suddenly grabbed the corner of my shirt, her face tense with anxiety. Her voice trembled with desperation, "Give me the video."
I said, "Don't worry, I won't share the video. But as for whether the person who sent it to me will share it... that's not something I can guarantee."
