I stood before Ivan, my eyes filled with impatience. I gripped the corner of his shirt tightly and asked, "What else do you know? Why did Juliet insist on killing you?"
Ivan's lips were tightly shut, and his brows were tightly furrowed. There was a hint of hesitation and struggle in his eyes. He stood quietly, not saying a word, as if he was weighing something in his heart.
Seeing this, I took a step forward and raised my voice. There was a hint of threat. "If you don't tell the truth, no one can protect you!"
There was a hint of helplessness in his eyes. Ivan sighed helplessly and whispered, "This is my family's matter. Telling you too much will only put you in danger."
I snorted and turned to leave. "If you don't want to tell the truth, don't come looking for me then."
Ivan hurriedly reached out and grabbed my arm. His face was filled with anxiety. "Wait! I... I'll tell you."
He let out a long sigh, his eyes filled with sadness. "I accidentally found a hidden folder in Juliet's computer. It contained the video she sent you, her diary, and the recording of all the bad things she had done. She slandered me and ruined my future."
His eyes became empty as he recalled what he knew. His body trembled slightly as he added, "I was expelled because she claimed she was humiliated in school and almost lost her innocence. In a fit of anger, I broke three of the so-called perpetrator's ribs and almost killed him. But later, I discovered she deliberately set all of this up. She deliberately seduced a boy and even took photos to frame me."
Ivan clenched his fists and the veins on his forehead bulged. He grunted, "But what I can't tolerate the most is that my mother was pregnant with a child before, and Juliet caused her to miscarry!
"She deliberately spilled skincare oil on the ground, causing my mother to slip and fall. But when I went to confront her, not only was she not afraid, she even slandered me for taking drugs when in fact, she was the one who mixed drugs in my candy!"
His voice trailed off in despair. "I went to tell my dad, but he didn't believe me. Even worse, he slapped me. After I left my home, I realized someone had been following me, trying to silence me."
I frowned slightly as I listened to his story. Something felt wrong, but I couldn't figure out what. After pondering, I looked at him and said, "You can't hide like this. You have to appear openly at the wedding ceremony and take back everything that belongs to you. Only then can you truly protect yourself and your mother."
"But my mother is still in her hands. Juliet is a lunatic." Panic appeared on Ivan's face. "Can you imagine? Juliet was only eight years old when she caused my mother's miscarriage."
I was shocked. 'Eight years old?' I immediately sneered recalling Juliet's personality. Some people were born evil.
I could finally understand Ivan's feelings at that moment. After all, that was the sister he had doted on for decades. However, she turned out to be Satan's spawn.
Juliet had always acted like an obedient girl before Ivan. But after being adopted by the Hill family, she lived under someone else's roof, and her personality changed.
As time passed, Ivan mistakenly thought Yolanda despised Juliet, so he treated Juliet even better. However, he was unaware that Yolanda's hatred for Juliet was rooted in her miscarriage. Unfortunately, Yolanda could not produce any evidence that pointed to Juliet.
Unbeknownst to Ivan, Juliet had been scheming to claim the Hill family's assets for herself. She would not allow anyone to get in her way. If Yolanda gave birth to another child, regardless of the gender, the child would pose a threat to her. Even worse, the child might strip Ivan's pity and love for her.
To Juliet, everyone in her heart was just a tool in her hands. She would do whatever it took to rid anyone standing in her way.
Ivan's worry was understandable, and I tried to comfort him. "Don't worry, Juliet thinks Yolanda is using your weakness. She won't be in danger for the time being. I'll send someone to continue looking for her."
I suddenly thought of something and my lips smirked. "On my wedding day, I can bring your mother over."
Ivan looked surprised. "You know where my mother is?"
I smiled. "I don't know for now, but I'll know soon. How's your body?"
"I've recovered." Ivan's eyes sparkled. When I saw the scars on his arm, I couldn't help but frown. Juliet was crazy and ruthless.
"You should go back. I need to prepare many things for the wedding."
Ivan smiled. "Don't worry, I understand. I look forward to your wedding."
I nodded. At that moment, Sophina's call came from afar. When I turned around, Ivan had already disappeared.
When I met Sophina, I saw her and Lawrence looked anxious.
But when they saw me, Sophina looked relieved. She quickly approached me and asked anxiously, "Laurel, where did you go? I was worried sick!" Sophina's eyes were red.
I smiled and joked, "The wedding invitations have been sent out, and we've made a public announcement. I have officially become Alex's wife. Why would anyone dare to harm me?"
Lawrence stood at the side. Panic flashed across his eyes, but he quickly concealed it. He lowered his head slightly and said softly, "It's better to be careful."
I keenly noticed his worry and asked in confusion, "Does Mr. Herrera have enemies?"
Lawrence didn't answer. He only stood in silence, and his gaze avoided mine.
Seeing him like that, I muttered, "Looks like being Mrs. Herrera doesn't solve much of one's problems. So, how many secrets and dangers do I need to know?"
I was no longer in the mood to shop, but when I thought of the card Alex had given me, I held Sophina's hand and my face lit up with excitement. "Let's go shopping."
After three hours shopping and seeing that Lawrence and Sophina could no longer take anything, we returned home. Lawrence did not send me to the hotel. Instead, we returned to the villa in the suburbs. I didn't refuse. After all, I had become Mrs. Herrera. I couldn't stay in a hotel forever.
After returning to my residence, I sat on the sofa and pondered. Sophina brought me a hot coffee and placed it before me. "What's wrong, Laurel?" She asked carefully. "Are you having second thoughts about this marriage?"
