Leah never expected me to be so "arrogant" before her. She thought I was conceited and arrogant because I relied on Alex's love. But I don't care. All that matters is that she could only grit her teeth and swallow her anger.
Leah stared at me fiercely. Her gaze seemed like she wanted to tear me apart. "Alright, Laurel. Let's see how long you can maintain your title as Mrs. Herrera."
I suppressed my anger and adjusted my breathing. I stuffed the set of jewelry on the table back into her hand and said calmly, "Please, we're commoners. We don't deserve such a precious thing. You should wear it, Leah. Because my husband is my most precious jewelry."
Leah's lips sneered. "That's true. How would someone like you know the value of such a precious thing?" With that, she left without looking back.
Sophina rubbed her chest and sighed with lingering fear. "Laurel, I was afraid that you would fight just now. Fortunately, you didn't throw your hands."
"It's not worth the effort," I said casually.
Lawrence frowned and said worriedly, "But Ma'am, that necklace is a gift from Lena. If you refuse, she will be angry!"
I smiled at Lawrence. "I've accepted it. I'm just giving it to Leah."
Sophina looked at me puzzledly, her eyes full of regret. "That necklace looks precious. Laurel, why don't you keep it yourself?"
"I don't like it. It doesn't suit me," I said casually. I wouldn't let Leah have it so easily if the stone in it was real.
Although that necklace was not completely fake, at least 80% of it was. The largest gemstone and the four so-called five-carat diamonds were fake. I could see through it because I dreamed of jewelry design and the six years I spent with Austin. Because he kept finding excuses to work, I devoted myself to work and study.
Although I did not know the price of the jewelry, I could tell at a glance if it was real or fake, especially diamonds and other precious stones. Why would I give it to someone else if the stone was real? Besides, I'm quite a money-grubber.
The next morning, I was in a daze when Sophina pulled me up. I glanced at the time and saw it was only six o'clock. Sophina reminded me about the upcoming wedding.
The wedding would last from noon to night, and the Herrera family had many rules. The makeup artist arrived early and brought six sets of gowns. Sophina asked hurriedly when she did not see it, "Where's the wedding dress?"
The makeup artist quickly explained, "The wedding dress will be sent to the hotel at nine o'clock sharp. She'll only have to wear it before she goes on stage to announce her oath."
After nearly three hours of makeup, I felt dizzy. It was as if my soul had been sucked out of me. It wasn't until I heard fireworks outside that I returned to my senses. Sophia and Maliyah were my bridesmaids.
However, I still didn't know who the best men would be. Alex had not contacted me in the past three days. Maybe he was still mad about our last argument.
When Alex brought the best man to pick me up, I couldn't help but be stunned. I didn't expect Long Qin to be among the best men. Long Qin's gaze was deep as he nodded slightly at me.
Alex wore a black suit, black pants, and black leather shoes. His appearance was quite casual for such a grand occasion. I almost thought he wasn't here to pick me up for the wedding.
"Let's go." Alex held my hand with a gentle smile. For a moment, I was in a daze. I reached out, lifted my skirt, and followed him downstairs.
When I left the house, the sun shone brightly. I subconsciously squinted. The wedding car was already at the door. It was decorated with flowers, and the fragrance was overwhelming.
I felt like sitting on pins and needles in the car. Alex was silent, and the situation was awkward. The car slowly drove away, and the scenery outside the window flew by. The pedestrians looked at me curiously or enviously, but I felt this wedding was more like a grand show.
When we arrived at the Herrera family's main residence, the living room was filled with the family members. Raphael and Lena sat on the sofa.
I took a deep breath and approached them. "Dad, Mom, how are you?"
Then, I greeted the rest of the Herrera family. I was glad that there were familiar faces that I was close with in this house. Otherwise, I could not hold back my anger. However, I was happy when the Herrera family gave their gifts. I didn't mind putting on a bright smile. What can I say? I had no resistance to material things.
When I approached Leah, she was no longer as arrogant as before. However, the smile on her lips made me shudder. My intuition told me she was up to something.
Finally, we headed to the hotel. While changing, I asked Sophina to come to the washroom.
As Sophina walked to my room, she heard the sarcastic words of the socialites outside. "I wonder what kind of spell that bitch Laurel use. How come Alex broke off his engagement to marry such a slut? Don't you find this odd?"
"I heard she used to be Austin's girlfriend, but now she's marrying his uncle? How shameless."
"Maybe she's going for Austin's uncle all along. I heard she's never been willing to let Austin touch her."
"Really? But they've been dating for years. Who would believe that!"
Amidst the laughter, a sweet and playful voice sounded. "It might be true, but it doesn't change anything from her. She's still a tramp."
Sophina was so angry that her face turned red. She was about to rush out to argue when I hurriedly pulled her back and shook my head at her. Although furious, she knew she could not lose her composure on such an occasion.
At that moment, a familiar voice sounded. "What nonsense are you talking about here? Aren't you afraid that the Herrera family will hear you?"
"Kailyn, we're on your side! You clearly like..."
"Shut up!" Kailyn quickly interrupted those women. Her voice was cold. "I'm already engaged to Austin. Stop talking nonsense."
Hearing what Kailyn said, I couldn't help but be stunned. I didn't know if Kailyn truly wanted to marry Austin. Thinking of this, I vaguely felt that something was wrong. I remember Kailyn was persistent. She never let go of something until she got what she wanted, even if she was destroyed.
My heart skipped a beat. I quickly pulled Sophina out. But when Kailyn saw me, a hint of surprise flashed across her eyes. Then, she smiled. "Laurel!"
I glanced indifferently at the few noble ladies standing beside her. I couldn't remember their names. I kept feeling like those faces were carved out of the same mold. All of them had high nose bridges and exquisite makeup.
"Kailyn, is the money ready?" I blinked at Kailyn, and she was stunned. She did not expect me to ask her for money directly.
"Anyway, I'm busy today. I'll look for you when I'm free." With that, I turned around and walked towards the lounge.
"Laurel, you're in the wrong place!" Sophina shouted.
I looked back at Sophina. "I'm going to find Alex. Wait for me in the lounge."
When I pushed open the door to Alex's lounge, I found a woman in his arms.
