'10 million dollars? It's Rosemary. How could it just be 10 million dollars?' I wondered, bewildered.
Alex raised his hand and pinched the space between his eyebrows. He looked tired.
"You didn't call the police?" I asked coolly.
Alex smiled awkwardly. "Do you think calling the police will solve the problem?"
I shrugged my shoulders and smiled. Alex was right. The Herrera family definitely had 10 million dollars to spare.
Moreover, Kayden and Amanda would never let the Herrera family call the police. If they did, it would lead to a cascade of things, and they would end up losing more than they can gain.
"It's getting late. Go to bed early." Alex stood up.
I slowly raised my head and stared at Alex without blinking. "You're going out again?"
"Helena is in the hospital." Alex sounded anxious.
I just smiled and said coldly, "Okay."
With that, I got into bed and turned off the light without waiting for Alex to leave. I knew that no one could stop him once he made up his mind. Moreover, I knew what I should meddle in and what I should not.
The door closed softly, and I waited for the footsteps to recede before I turned on my phone to tell Marvin the news of Rosemary's kidnapping.
I also asked Marvin to introduce me to a reporter who was interested in entertainment gossip.
If Helena liked having attention so much, I'll grant her wish.
I was woken up by Sophina's call the next morning.
"Laurel, where are you? I could not stop Maliyah and Javier from going to the hospital to settle scores with Helena." Sophina sounded anxious on the phone.
I was stunned for a moment and quickly asked, "Which hospital?"
"Unity Hospital. I'm on my way now," Sophina replied.
"Okay, I'll be right there." After hanging up, I quickly washed up and hurried downstairs.
I did not expect Javier to be so impulsive, but Maliyah rushing down to the hospital with Javier was even more unexpected. She was always the one stopping him.
"Mrs. Herrera, why are you up so early?" Hector asked.
"I'm going to Unity Hospital," I responded.
"What happened?" Hector's expression darkened.
I bit my lip and pretended to look aggrieved. "You'll know when you see the news headlines."
Before Hector could react, I rushed out of the door.
After getting into the car, I took out my phone. The news of a Herrera Group executive and his mistress was all over the internet.
The headlines read, [A Herrera Group executive sneaked out to meet his mistress on his wedding night, neglecting his pregnant wife!]
The intimate photos of the two of them occupied the entire webpage.
I did not expect the reporter Marvin hired to be so good. Instead of publishing it on proper gossip channels, he chose to leak this information to gossip accounts on the internet.
After a whole night, the news has been shared over a million times.
Although the man and woman in the photo were pixelated, everyone in Newton City knew the person who had gotten married yesterday.
The Herrera Group's stocks had plummeted, and Helena was the reason why. Helena had been doxxed and her real identity as the Cole family's illegitimate daughter had been exposed.
She had wanted to use the wedding to clear the Herrera family's name but did not expect that plan to fail.
Normally, such news would only cause some minor trouble. Unfortunately for the Herrera family, they had severely offended someone who wanted proper retaliation.
On my way to the hospital, I received a call from Aloysius.
"Laurel, where are you?" He asked.
There was a rasp in my voice as I said, "I'm on my way to the hospital. Something has happened."
"Don't go to the hospital. There are reporters at the door now," Aloysius instructed.
"But my cousins are already there," I started, but immediately heard Linda's voice coming through the phone.
"Someone found out that Rosemary is missing. Now, Kayden and Amanda are on their way to the hospital to settle scores with Helena," Linda said.
Aloysius, who had always been good-tempered, could not help but complain, "Why are they joining in the fun again? That illegitimate daughter of the Cole family is just a sickly invalid..."
'Sickly invalid?' I echoed in my mind.
I hung up on Aloysius and could not help but smile. I coughed twice and said, "Please drive faster, or someone might die."
Lawrence tightened his grip on the steering wheel when he heard the word 'die'.
Lawrence seemed afraid that Javier would scare Helena to death in a fit of anger. If Helena was really that weak, she would not have the energy to be moving around now.
To avoid the reporters, I asked Lawrence to park the car by the roadside and went in alone.
When I successfully entered the hospital, I called Sophina. After getting the floor number, I walked up unhurriedly.
Although Javier was impulsive, he would not easily hit a woman. If Maliyah had attacked Helena, Alex would not have attacked Maliyah either. Thus, it was unlikely the two of them had suffered any losses.
Helena was the only one who would suffer. It was likely she did not expect that she would pay such a huge price for simply wanting to show off to me. Unfortunately for her, the greater price had yet to be paid.
Just as I reached the door and pushed it open, I saw Amanda glaring at Helena coldly before she raised her hand and slapped Helena.
I looked around. I didn't see Alex or Javier.
Helena's eyes were filled with surprise. She looked at Amanda with teary eyes and bit her lip. "Who...Who are you? What right do you have to hit me?"
"You slut. An illegitimate daughter like you dared to seduce a married man? If the Cole family did not teach you manners, I will." Amanda's eyes were red and her face was ferocious.
Helena trembled all over. She watched in disbelief as the woman in front of her reached out and grabbed her hair like a shrew.
Amanda glared at Helena venomously. "It's all your fault. It's all your fault."
"Let go, let go!" Helena panicked. She reached out to push Amanda away but did not expect Amanda to pounce on her and tear off her clothes with a hateful expression. "How dare you seduce Alex!"
Looking at the furious Amanda, I knew that she was just venting her anger about Rosemary's situation on Helena. There was a possibility that she was also angry towards me.
Helena's fair skin was exposed. Kayden, who was standing at the side, silently turned around and retreated.
I pretended to look terrified and quickly went to call for help.
However, I saw Alex coming out of the bathroom.
"Why are you here?" He frowned.
Before I could say anything, Alex heard Helena shouting for help.
He quickly ran towards the ward. When he pushed open the door, he saw that Amanda was already sitting on Helena and slapping her face.
Three crisp sounds rang out as Helena struggled.
Amanda had always been powerful. It never took too much energy from her to curse.
"You slut, just like your mother! You slut!" Amanda yelled.
I was slightly stunned. It seemed that I had heard something I should not have.
"You're not allowed to talk about my mother like that!" Helena roared.
At this moment, Alex, who was about to rush forward, froze on the spot.
I looked at Helena with a smile and saw her stunned face.
I thought wickedly, 'All her pretense for so long, just for her to end up exposing herself.'
Alex raised his hand and pinched the space between his eyebrows. He looked tired.
