"Are you crying?" Alex frowned slightly and looked at me in confusion.
Perhaps in his eyes, I had never been someone who shed tears easily.
Even when I was humiliated, abandoned, slandered, and faced all kinds of dangers, I never cried.
I didn't even cry at Angela's funeral.
I ignored Alex and turned over, not looking at him.
The fear and loss in my heart had always been there. I didn't want Alex to see my vulnerable side.
Footsteps sounded behind me, and I secretly heaved a sigh of relief. However, I suddenly heard the sound of the door being locked.
Stunned, I sat up abruptly and looked at Alex. "What are you doing?"
Only when I started talking did I realize that my voice was a little hoarse.
Alex walked to the bed and smiled. "Are you afraid of me?"
I shook my head. "No."
"Then why are you so nervous?" Alex's tone was teasing.
"What are you doing here?" I snapped.
Alex was silent for a moment. Then, he lay down beside me.
The bed was huge, but even so, that wasn't an excuse for him to come over in the middle of the night.
"Can you still sleep?" Alex asked.
I pretended not to hear him and ignored him.
It was the middle of the night. I was sure he didn't have any good intentions.
Did he come here for a quarrel?
Alex continued, "Let's talk."
I was stunned for a moment. Ever since we got married, Alex had never been so serious.
"What do you want to talk about?" I slowly sat up. At that moment, my sleepiness had completely disappeared.
After all, I couldn't hide from him forever. Moreover, I had to go back to my family in two days. Now, the Herrera family had a lot of things to deal with.
"If this is about me letting Helena in, you can forget about it," I said bluntly.
If I had learned to turn a blind eye back then, I wouldn't have broken up with Austin.
I was not stupid enough to think that I could win back the scumbag's heart as long as I got married.
Playboys would never change or behave.
"It's about Rosemary." Alex paused and fixed his eyes on me.
I asked, "What about her? She's still alive, isn't she?"
Alex knew that Marvin was still in Newton City, so I would definitely know if Rosemary was dead or alive immediately.
"She's fine, but a woman who looks like her has died." Alex's voice was calm as if someone's death didn't matter to him.
However, it mattered to me.
Every person's life was worth cherishing.
Even someone who did all kinds of evil would care about the ones they loved, and there would also be people who could not bear to part with them.
Everyone's life had certain meanings.
I looked up at Alex sideways. His nose was straight, and he was still unbelievably handsome.
He seemed to have just taken a shower and smelled like shower gel. His long eyelashes were also wet, and the corners of his mouth looked soft. He looked so charming, but the expression on his face was very cold and indifferent.
He suddenly turned his head and looked straight at me with those beautiful eyes, making my heart thump.
He said with some difficulty, "Rosemary is Kayden's illegitimate daughter. Austin doesn't know about this yet."
"He'll find out sooner or later." I looked at him expressionlessly. "Haven't you always known?"
After that, I looked away and sighed softly.
Alex pursed his lips. "You already knew that there was something going on between the two of them?"
I nodded. "They have an ambiguous relationship. But I didn't know they were sleeping with each other before. I only found out recently."
Alex suddenly laughed.
"I told you that they were intimate, but no one believed me." I shrugged. "Austin always said that he treated Rosemary as his dear friend."
I didn't tell Alex that I'd mentioned it in front of Amanda before.
However, Amanda said that I was jealous and could not even tolerate Rosemary, my sister-in-law.
She was indeed short-sighted.
I couldn't believe she made it sound like she was being generous.
Alex suddenly asked, "Are you trying to get back at Austin?"
I was stunned for a moment and looked at Alex blankly. "You think I'm trying to get back at him? Does that mean I'm trying to get back at him by marrying you?"
"Aren't you?" Alex raised his eyebrows. His cold gaze was like a knife, stabbing into my flesh again and again.
"Yes." I smiled, but only I knew how hypocritical that smile could be. "And of course, you've given me more than enough money."
"Is that so?" Alex's tone was still calm. "If I stop giving you money, will you leave me? What about the baby?"
I pursed my lips and tilted my head to look at Alex beside me. "What's your point?"
He was silent for a long time before he slowly said, "I'm not ready to be a father."
I raised my eyebrows. "Are you asking me to have an abortion?"
Alex merely said, "Don't worry. I'll give you money."
"How much?" I stared up into his deep-set eyes with interest.
He frowned slightly. "How much do you want?"
"30 million dollars." I named my request.
Alex nodded. "Okay."
Stunned, I gripped the blanket tightly, feeling ridiculous and pathetic.
I did not expect my baby to be worth 30 million dollars.
In fact, I had just casually said an astronomical figure, but I did not expect Alex to agree so readily.
I suddenly wondered if it was because Helena was really angry with him that he forced me to abort the baby.
Alex instructed, "I'll get the treasurer to transfer the money to you tomorrow. When you get back to Nifelheim City, you'll have an abortion."
"Alright." I looked at Alex with a smile. "Since we've reached an agreement, I'm going to sleep."
Alex ignored what I said and lay down.
I couldn't be bothered to argue. After all, I was in the Herrera family's place, not my own home.
The next day, when I woke up, Alex was gone.
Sophina came to my room and prepared clothes for me, water for washing my face, and even toothpaste.
As I was brushing my teeth, my phone buzzed.
I asked Sophina to show me the message.
When she saw the message, she was stunned on the spot for a long while.
She seemed to be frightened.
"What is it?" I asked, coming to her after washing my face. I patted her gently on the arm.
Sophina handed the phone to me and started counting the zeros on the message. She muttered softly, "30 million dollars?"
I glanced at it. It was a bank transfer record.
I nodded in satisfaction and called Austin. "Are you available? Let's meet."
Upon getting his answer, I said, "Okay. I'll see you at the usual place at 12 p.m."
I hung up. Sophina's eyes widened and she asked carefully, "Laurel, what happened?"
