At noon, sunlight shone through the mottled leaves on the glass wall of the fine dining restaurant.
I arrived early and sat by the table in the corner. Tapping my fingers on the table unconsciously, I occasionally glanced at the door.
Austin showed up on time. When he saw me, a hint of surprise appeared in his eyes. He put on an imperceptible smile.
I had thought that after everything that had happened to Rosemary, he would look haggard and lonely.
But now, his hair was neatly combed back, his eyes were bright and spirited, and his face was surprisingly radiant.
However, I figured that it wasn't surprising. After all, when Rosemary was sent out of the country by the Herrera family, Austin did not stop it from happening.
Even when she was smeared for murder, Austin did not show up. He did not even bother to look at her.
When he found out that Rosemary had been kidnapped, he turned a blind eye to it. It seemed that he only cared about Kailyn of the Parks family.
He had long forgotten about Rosemary, whom he had once loved and protected.
I used to think that Rosemary mattered the most to Austin, but it seemed that I was wrong.
He didn't care about anyone. The only thing he cared about the most was his own feelings.
Austin slowly walked up to me, pulled out a chair, and sat down. He crossed his legs elegantly and crossed his arms in front of his chest before he looked at me teasingly. "What's wrong? Are you regretting asking me out today? It's not too late to turn back now."
His eyebrows rose slightly, and there was a hint of arrogance and anticipation in his eyes.
I was slightly stunned, but I quickly understood what he meant.
The scandal of Alex accompanying Helena in the middle of the night spread like wildfire. In Austin's eyes, Alex was actually not much better than him.
He believed that Alex married me only out of necessity and that he didn't really care much about me.
Austin probably thought I wanted to go back to him and be his pet.
I had no idea why he got to be so confident in himself, which was simply hilarious.
I frowned and said coldly, "I'm your aunt. Shouldn't you be greeting me now?"
Austin seemed to be amused. He raised his head and let out a disdainful sneer. Then, he said with a mocking smile, "Then does my uncle know that you called me to ask me out, Aunt Laurel?"
His eyes were fixed on me as if he wanted to see right through me.
I looked him straight in the eye and answered calmly, "He doesn't."
Austin asked, "He doesn't? Aren't you afraid that Uncle Alex will get us wrong?"
His gaze was fixed on me, and he leaned back in his chair as if waiting for me to say something more.
I leaned forward and lowered my voice. "I asked you out to make a deal."
"A deal?" Austin raised his eyebrows and revealed a satisfied smile. "Do you want me to help you secure your status as Mrs. Herrera?"
"Can you achieve that?" I smiled calmly and my eyes revealed a trace of arrogance. I continued unhurriedly, "I'm now pregnant with the Herrera family's descendant. Moreover, Alex has already said in front of the Herrera family that he will never divorce me."
Austin snorted coldly. He could not hide the jealousy and anger in his eyes, but he still showed a smile. "Then what do you want from me, Aunt Laurel?"
I said, "I'll help you save Rosemary and secretly send her abroad, but you have to help me too."
Austin's eyes widened as if he had heard something ridiculous. He sat up straight and looked at me in disbelief. "You'll help me?"
He sneered. "You don't have to worry about Rosemary being kidnapped. The Herrera family will naturally deal with it."
I was stunned. From his tone and actions, I could tell that he couldn't be bothered with Rosemary's life.
In other words, he wanted the dead woman to be Rosemary.
After all, with Rosemary's personality, how could she let Austin marry another woman?
With Rosemary dead, he would have less trouble, which was exactly what he wanted.
He could do everything for his future.
Austin, who was sitting in front of me, suddenly felt very unfamiliar, as if I had never really understood him.
I took a deep breath and said slowly, "Don't you know that Rosemary is your dad's illegitimate daughter?"
These words were a stunning bombshell to him.
Austin suddenly froze, and the smile on his face instantly disappeared. A trace of panic appeared in his eyes, but he quickly covered it up. He clenched his fists tightly, his knuckles turning pale from the force. After a long silence, he slowly said, "What did you just say? Stop talking nonsense here."
His voice was low and cold, and there was a hint of threat in his eyes.
"Your dad personally admitted in the police station that Rosemary is actually his illegitimate daughter." I sighed softly.
Then, I took a file from my bag and placed it before him. "Here is the evidence. Read it for yourself."
I leaned back in my chair and watched his reaction.
Austin opened the file with trembling hands and quickly browsed through the contents. His face darkened, and beads of sweat appeared on his forehead.
When he finished, he slammed the file shut and looked up, his eyes angry and resigned. "How could it be? No. Something isn't right. This has to be fake. Rosemary is missing. How did you get her DNA?"
I blinked, a bright smile on my face. "There's a time stamp on it. When I went to the Herrera Manor for dinner, I accidentally realized that the two of you were too intimate, so out of curiosity..."
"You lunatic!" Austin roared.
As soon as he finished speaking, the surrounding people all turned to look at us.
"Are you mad?" I raised my eyebrows and knocked on the table lightly. I continued with a cold expression, "Don't you know why your mom didn't tell you about Rosemary's identity?"
I didn't tell Austin about my suspicion. Had Amanda never suspected Rosemary's identity at all?
If not, why did the accidents that happened to Rosemary when she was young even happen?
Perhaps she was also afraid that Austin and Rosemary would develop feelings after being together for a long time, so she used despicable methods to get someone to taint Rosemary.
Perhaps she would never have thought that Rosemary would still hook up with Austin.
"No, it can't be. Rosemary can't be my sister." Austin's voice was husky, as if he were talking to himself.
I looked at him and said softly, "Now is not the time to think about this. You have to think of a way to save Rosemary as soon as possible, and your time is running out. The Herrera family has already prepared 10 million dollars to trade. If the police save her, I'm afraid that Rosemary will have another seizure after knowing her identity."
Austin covered his head with his hands and rubbed his temples in pain. After a while, he looked up with a ruthless look in his eyes. "So what if she's my sister? Do you think anyone will believe you?"
