Outside the window, there was an endless stream of cars on the street, making waves of noise.
After a moment of distraction and panic, Austin quickly collected himself. His originally flustered eyes instantly turned cold. His voice was gloomy, and there was no additional expression on his face.
As I revealed a meaningful smile, my eyes narrowed slightly, carrying a hint of probing and mockery. "Do you really think that I'm the only one who knows about your relationship? Why did the kidnapper ask for 10 million dollars? The truth will be revealed eventually."
Austin's face instantly turned red. He glared at me fiercely. "Are you threatening me?"
He was gritting his teeth, trembling slightly with anger, and the chair shifted slightly. The candlelight on the table beside us flickered slightly, as if frightened by the fury, too.
I shook my head gently and smiled contemptuously. "Threatening you? Why would I need to do that? Don't you know why your mom sent Rosemary overseas?"
Panic appeared in Austin's eyes. His hand subconsciously reached for the glass of water on the table. He wanted to pick it up and take a sip to hide his panic, but because his hand was trembling so much, the glass fell to the ground and shattered.
Shards of glass scattered across the floor, glinting harshly in the light.
His lips trembled slightly, as if he wanted to say something but hesitated.
The surrounding customers were attracted by this sudden noise and looked over strangely.
Looking at his reaction, I sighed and slowly said, "I can lend you 10 million dollars so that you can save her in advance and secretly send her abroad. But the prerequisite is that you owe me a favor, and I will tell you when I need your favor."
I folded my arms across my chest and stared straight ahead at him.
The waiter in the restaurant heard the commotion and carefully walked over to clean up the debris. His movements were light and slow.
Austin recovered from his shock. His eyes filled with suspicion and anger, he gritted his teeth and asked, "Did you kidnap Rosemary?"
I raised my eyebrows slightly with a slight look of disdain on my face.
It seemed that Austin was not hopelessly stupid. However, he was still wrong.
"I didn't kidnap her. Kidnapping is illegal. Besides, I've been busy with my marriage recently. How could I have the time to kidnap Rosemary? Would I do it only for 10 million dollars?" I leaned back in my chair and looked nonchalant.
Austin was silent for a moment, his sharp eyes scanning my face.
"So you know who kidnapped Rosemary?" His voice was a little calmer.
I nodded but said nothing.
At that moment, Austin's phone suddenly rang.
He glanced at his phone screen. It was a call from Amanda.
He frowned and hesitated for a moment before picking up the phone.
As the voice came from the receiver, his expression became even more solemn.
Then, he asked Amanda over the phone, "Is Rosemary really my dad's illegitimate daughter?"
His voice trembled slightly.
After getting the answer, he slowly hung up.
After hanging up the phone, Austin looked at me and said in a low voice, "The police have set up a trap to catch the kidnapper, but they still haven't found the missing Rosemary."
I nodded. Actually, it was just as I had expected.
Austin was silent for a long time before looking up at me. There was a hint of determination in his eyes. "Alright. I agree to your conditions."
He picked up his pen and signed his name on the loan agreement.
I took the check out of my bag and handed it to him. "Go straight to Juliet."
Austin looked at me in disbelief. His mouth opened slightly as if he wanted to say something, but he held back the urge to do so.
He stood up and left the restaurant.
I watched him go, taking my time with my steak, as if whatever had just happened had nothing to do with me.
Just then, Sophina immediately sat opposite me after Austin left.
She looked anxious and her eyes widened. She asked directly, "Laurel, is Juliet the one who kidnapped Rosemary?"
She leaned forward and rested her hands on the table, her eyes full of curiosity and doubt.
I smiled but didn't speak. I just stared at her in silence.
To be exact, Rosemary had not been kidnapped from the beginning to the end. Instead, she had willingly left with Juliet.
Latham and Kayden had used 10 million dollars to start a pharmaceutical company.
As for why Rosemary worked with Juliet, who almost killed her, it was actually to take revenge on the Herrera family.
Unfortunately, even Juliet did not expect that the pawn she had would end up being a double-edged sword.
The reason why she helped Rosemary was to make use of Amanda's weakness and make her return to the Hill family.
If Juliet really wanted to destroy Austin, she would have released the video that was sent to me long ago.
However, she did not expect Rosemary to be the Herrera family's illegitimate daughter.
If the video was released, it would definitely destroy the Herrera family. At the same time, it would also cause the Hill family to fall into a calamity. The Hill family and the Herrera family were in the same boat. Juliet was not that stupid.
Since I asked Austin to give Juliet the money, she would naturally stop while she was ahead. It was a way out.
However, things did not go as smoothly as I expected.
Rosemary didn't return home safely. Instead, she was really dead this time. Juliet was seriously injured and was taken to the ICU ward, unconscious.
The hospital corridor smelled of disinfectant. The pale light shining on the cold tile floor was oppressive and unsettling.
I followed Alex to the hospital. Austin's family of three was there. Their faces were filled with sadness and exhaustion.
Aloysius stood at the side with a gloomy expression. His eyes revealed a trace of anger and helplessness.
Damian stood quietly in the corner, frowning as if he was thinking about something.
Amanda sat in the chair and covered her face with her hands as she cried. Her shoulders kept trembling.
Wasn't this acting too much?
Austin stood at the side, staring blankly ahead. His lips were pale, and he looked as if he had lost his soul.
Kayden's face was filled with regret and self-blame. He kept pacing in the corridor and rubbing his hands.
At that moment, I saw someone from the Hill family walking over.
Only Beckham and Ivan came.
"What happened?" Beckham looked at Amanda, who was wiping her tears. There was a hint of panic in his voice. "When the police called me, I thought it was a scam call."
Aloysius and Alex, who were relatively calm, were brought to the police station to take statements.
Ivan quietly walked up to me.
"What exactly happened? The police said that a man kidnapped two people. Be careful these days." Ivan touched his nose. "I suspect that it was done by the Parks family."
