It had only been five minutes since I stepped out of the hospital room when Helena's disheveled figure came into view.
She wore a pearl-white dress with a light pink coat draped over her shoulders. Her long black hair was pinned up with a silver hairpiece—a look that was meant to be elegant and refined. But now, it was a complete mess.
Her hair was tangled, and the right side of her pale face was swollen and red, clear evidence of a fierce fight.
It seemed like Sophina had taken after me, striking hard on one side of the face.
Javier was leaning casually against the doorway, his lips curved in amusement. His phone was tightly gripped in his hand, and he had recorded everything.
I stepped up beside him, frowning as I lowered my voice. "You attacked her in front of so many people and even recorded it. Aren't you worried she'll report it to the police?"
Javier let out a scoff, full of disdain. "If she dares to report it, I'll send this video straight to the press. The money I get from selling it will be more than enough to bail out Maliyah."
"As for Sophina, this is just a brawl. No bail is needed. If anyone gets locked up, it'll be all three of them."
I was slightly taken aback and glanced over at Sophina. There were a few scratches on her face, but compared to Helena, she was in much better shape.
With two against one, losing to someone like Helena, who was always putting on a fragile act, would have been truly embarrassing.
Still, I hadn't expected Helena to fight back. She must have been truly provoked this time.
Just then, I noticed Bonnie standing calmly beside Helena, her expression neutral as she asked, "What happened, Miss? Do you need me to call the police for you?"
Bonnie had put extra effort into her appearance today. Dressed in a professional suit, her makeup was flawless, making her look completely different from usual.
Even if Helena had met her before, she probably wouldn't recognize her now.
Bonnie clicked her tongue in sympathy. "Such a pretty face, and now it's ruined. Let me call the police for you. Two people ganging up on one—that's just too much."
Helena bit her lip, her eyes burning with anger as she glared at Sophina and Maliyah.
When her gaze landed on me, there wasn't the slightest hint of fear—only open provocation.
Then, she suddenly grabbed Bonnie's hand, her voice urgent. "Miss, you saw them attacking me just now, didn't you? I hope you'll be willing to testify for me."
I smirked. Helena certainly knew how to manipulate people. Calling Bonnie "Miss" with that pitiful yet charming tone could probably fool quite a few people.
Bonnie glanced at her watch and sighed impatiently. "Being a witness isn't a problem, but where's your family? I have work this afternoon, so I can't stay here too long."
"I'll call them right now! Don't worry, I'll make it up to you for the trouble," Helena said quickly, pulling out her phone.
She didn't seem to care who was standing around her. But when she called Alex and the line connected, Bonnie's expression darkened.
I let out a quiet sigh. At that moment, Javier snickered under his breath.
Less than twenty minutes later, Alex arrived at the hospital in a hurry.
Bonnie watched as he walked straight toward Helena, then turned to her with a bright smile. "Oh? So this is your family?"
Helena nodded, the resentment in her eyes instantly shifting into a look of vulnerability and helplessness.
"Alex..." Her voice trembled as she gazed at him, unshed tears glistening in her eyes. She reached out, attempting to hold onto his arm.
But he sidestepped her touch, silently staring at her.
She froze, standing there in a daze. It took her a moment to realize that such an intimate gesture was highly inappropriate under so many watchful eyes.
"Alex, it was Laurel who told Sophina and that woman to attack me," Helena cried, wiping away her tears as she accused Laurel.
Alex remained silent, his expression unreadable, clearly not believing her words.
Helena quickly held Bonnie's hand and said, "This woman saw it with her own eyes."
Bonnie let out a mocking laugh, her sharp gaze locking onto Alex.
Just as he was about to speak, Bonnie cut him off.
"Miss, what I saw was you starting the fight with that girl first. The other one only stepped in to pull you apart, and you scratched her face in the process.
"That's when they fought back. But now, you're twisting the story to make it seem like someone ordered them to attack you?
"And you say this man is your family? Then tell me, Alex—Laurel is carrying your child. What is she to you?
Bonnie's lips curled into a smirk, her cold gaze lingering on Alex for a couple of seconds before shifting to Helena.
"I remember your name is Helena, right? Who was your mother again? Some kind of celebrity? And you're Malcolm's illegitimate daughter?"
Helena pressed her lips together and looked at Bonnie.
"Yes, I'm an illegitimate daughter. So what? I've known Alex since we were kids. Why can't I see him as family?"
She wiped away her tears as she spoke, as if she had suffered a great injustice.
"I haven't even scolded you or laid a finger on you, and you're already crying like this. But when you were throwing punches just now, I didn't see a single tear.
"Trying to act pitiful in front of me? You think you can fool me?"
Bonnie sneered. "No matter how close you are to Alex, do you think hugging him like that is appropriate? Didn't your mother teach you the concept of boundaries between men and women? You do know he's married, right?
"When the elder acts improperly, the younger one follows suit. I wouldn't have to say this if you weren't doing something worth criticizing."
Her voice grew louder, drawing the attention of the people in the hall.
As soon as she finished speaking, Helena suddenly stopped crying. She wiped the tears from her face, took a deep breath, and her voice turned icy.
"You're Laurel's aunt, aren't you?"
"And what, was her mother some saint? Is her father even really dead? She's just another illegitimate child pretending to be all high and mighty. At least I know who my father is—does she?"
Bonnie let out a low chuckle, her eyes filled with contempt as she turned back to Alex.
"Alex, do you see what kind of person Helena really is?"
Alex's face darkened as he looked at Helena. "Helena, don't talk nonsense."
"Why? They can humiliate me, but I can't speak my mind?" Helena shot me a vicious glare.
"She's just a nobody that no one cares about."
I froze for a moment. It seemed that Helena had finally decided to drop the act. She wasn't even trying to keep up the pretense anymore.
A sharp sound echoed as Bonnie struck Helena across the face.
Bonnie's eyes burned with fury as she glared at Helena. "Nobody? I'll call Maddox right now and tell him someone called his daughter a nobody. Let's see how he handles it."
Silence fell over the entire room.
Everyone was stunned—including me.
Bonnie had never wanted me to return to the Parks family. Yet now, she was suddenly standing up for me. More than that, she had been provoking Helena from the very start.
