When I received the horrifying picture, I immediately tracked the IP of the sender.
At the same time, the people I sent to keep an eye on Jessica informed me that there was no way she would commit suicide.
Recently, she had been liquidating all her assets and transferring the money into offshore bank accounts.
In fact, from the moment Carolina appeared, she had already begun looking for a way out.
The reason I had people keep an eye on Jessica was that I knew she wasn't simple. To be able to fake her death for so many years, she must have had Malcolm protecting her.
And I only managed to find the location where she was hiding after carefully tracking Helena.
The two of them had always been very cautious.
Ever since Helena showed up at the hospital injured, I had already begun laying out my plan.
Placing her in the Herrera family was meant to push her to the brink, leaving her with no way out.
So I was certain that once she returned to Nifelheim City, she would go straight to her mother.
Besides, I had already passed the intel I intercepted to Abigail, making it much easier to track down Jessica than I initially expected.
After spending time around me, Helena believed she understood my personality well. When she had someone send me the photos, she expected me to call the authorities. What she didn't anticipate was that I would also bring in the press
However, our goals were different. She wanted to expose me in front of the reporters, making sure everyone believed that I had orchestrated all the scandals just to take revenge on her. In the end, she wanted to use Jessica's death to complete her plan—utterly destroying me.
She wanted everyone to believe that I was a venomous, cold-hearted woman.
Even if Jessica had done wrong, those mistakes wouldn't matter anymore once Jessica was dead.
She wanted me to be attacked online, to break me mentally—after all, I had just lost my mother.
If I were to face endless insults and threats on top of that, not only my unborn child but even I might collapse under the weight of doubt and humiliation.
But for all her careful planning, she overlooked the most crucial point.
I had no intention of hiding what I had done. Instead, I would face it openly and own up to everything.
Unfortunately, her joy lasted less than three seconds before I shattered it.
She thought her plan was flawless, but an unexpected twist ruined everything.
Not only did Helena fail to take advantage of me, but she also ended up being the one caught off guard.
However, Jessica's death was indeed not within my expectations, but I was certain that her death had something to do with Helena.
When Helena heard what I said, her face turned pale.
She was clearly feeling guilty.
However, I really couldn't imagine what she had said to Jessica to make her choose to jump off a building on the rooftop of the hospital.
Jessica went up to the rooftop alone, and she secretly went up alone.
When the person sent to keep an eye on her realized that she had disappeared, she had already jumped off the rooftop.
After reviewing the security footage, the police found no evidence of a second person going up.
Jessica's last phone call had been from Helena.
From my earlier probing, it was clear that Helena had no idea Jessica had already transferred most of her fortune overseas.
Or perhaps she did know and was merely pretending not to.
What she hadn't expected was that I knew about it, which was why she looked so utterly shocked.
"Sophina, take Mrs. Herrera back. She shouldn't be wandering around," Alex said.
Hearing Alex's cold, low voice, I instinctively turned to him and softly asked, "Honey, are you working late tonight, or..."
I pouted slightly, pausing for a moment before continuing in a neutral tone, "You don't need to go to the hospital anymore, right? Come home early, okay?"
Without waiting for Alex's response, I grabbed Sophina's hand and got into the car.
"Laurel, what's going on with Mr. Herrera? Does he really want to keep Helena as a mistress?" Sophina's eyes flashed with anger. "Even after the press conference, he hasn't changed at all."
Seeing her puffed-up, indignant expression, I couldn't help but chuckle. "Why are you so mad? Now that Helena's mother has suddenly died, she has no choice but to rely on Alex."
I leaned back, adjusting to a more comfortable position. "Hasn't she always been taken care of?"
"And the Cole family? They're just abandoning her? So now she's going to follow Mr. Herrera around?" Sophina frowned in frustration. "Laurel, you can't just sit back and do nothing! Aren't you worried at all?"
Honestly, I wasn't.
Right now, Alex had no way of divorcing me, even if he wanted to. The Herrera family wouldn't allow it. And more importantly, I was carrying his heir.
This wasn't just about throwing a tantrum—I was making a statement. If Alex ever did try to divorce me, I needed leverage. And if he ever tried to take my child from me, he could forget about it.
"Get a lawyer," I said after a pause. "Every penny Alex spent on Helena since our wedding—I want it back," I smirked. "And while you're at it, send a full transaction record of Helena's spending over the years to Carolina."
Sophina blinked in confusion. "Shouldn't we send it to Malcolm instead?"
I sighed. "Do you think Malcolm has any money?" Then, lowering my voice, I added, "I just want Carolina to see exactly how much Helena has been draining every month."
Sophina gave me a long, thoughtful look. "Laurel, are you trying to completely ruin her?"
I laughed softly. "Oh, don't worry. Malcolm won't ask Alex for more money. In fact, he'll return every cent."
Sophina gaped at me, stunned. "That's impossible! Malcolm is scum. Ever since Helena and Jessica were kicked out of the Cole family, he's been nowhere to be found. He didn't even show up when Jessica died."
I yawned, then glanced at Lawrence, who was focused on the road. Smirking, I said, "Feel free to relay everything I just said to Alex."
"There's no need. Mr. Herrera doesn't have time to care about such a small matter. Mrs. Herrera, you may do it yourself. If you need anything, I can help."
Sophina tilted her head and looked at Lawrence. "Lawrence, are you really Mr. Herrera's man?"
Lawrence coughed awkwardly. "What did you say just now?"
"Laurel, can Malcolm really pay for Helena?" Sophina shook her head as she spoke. "I don't think that's possible. Even if Malcolm agrees, Carolina won't agree!"
