I was dragged home by Alex. Javier and Sophina followed closely behind.
They seemed to be frightened by Alex's sinister and terrifying aura. Even so, they still braced themselves and followed closely behind us.
Halfway, Javier remembered the car parked by the roadside, and Sophina remembered the large bag of snacks she had stored in the supermarket.
I told the two of them to go to the supermarket together and parked the car in the underground parking garage.
Javier was dragged away by Sophina.
When Alex and I returned home, we smelled the fragrance of food.
When Dorothy saw Alex walk in with a gloomy face, her first reaction was to take off her apron and hurriedly say, "Mrs. Herrera, there's no more vinegar at home. I'll go to the supermarket downstairs."
Before I could respond, she ran away. Two days ago, she complained that her legs hurt and she couldn't walk properly.
It seemed her leg were recovered.
I looked up at Alex. When I saw that beautiful face, my heart suddenly skipped a beat. I didn't know if it was because I was afraid or because of something else.
But at this moment, I suddenly realized that I really didn't know him very well. I had even overestimated my courage and determination to leave.
Actually, I had always known that I had a natural fear of him, but I had never been as afraid as I was today.
When I saw the ruthlessness in his beautiful eyes, I did feel a little guilty.
"We're home. Can you let go of me now?" I frowned slightly and glanced at Alex.
"Let's talk." Alex looked at me with a burning gaze, looking down at me.
I was stunned for a moment. I pursed my lips and hesitated for a moment before obediently sitting on the sofa. I looked up at Alex.
No matter how bewitching the face in front of him was, when he was angry, he exuded a cold aura from head to toe. It was terrifying.
Alex looked at me meaningfully and said, "Never mention divorce again."
I was slightly stunned. I looked at the man in front of me with a serious and cold expression. Although I was filled with curiosity, I still acknowledged him.
Just as I stood up and was about to hide in my room, I heard his low and cold voice again. "Helena and I are not what you think."
Looking at Alex's serious answer, I smiled sarcastically. "I know. She is like a sister to you."
"No." Alex restrained the anger on his face. After a moment of silence, he said, "I said before that I would protect her."
Surprise flashed across my eyes before I snorted. "So, you didn't hesitate to hurt others while protecting her?"
Alex looked confused. "Helena didn't hurt you. If I hurt you, I apologize."
I scoffed, "You think I'm the one hurting her, don't you?"
I didn't cry or feel sad, but for some reason, my heart felt empty, as if nothing could fill the empty space.
Grievance, sadness, and disappointment instantly enveloped me tightly. I couldn't help but think of Helena showing a smug expression at me.
If Alex had openly admitted that he liked Helena and chose to draw a line with me, perhaps I wouldn't have felt so awkward.
It was ridiculous to protect another woman and hurt his wife for the sake of a so-called promise.
"Helena is just too insecure," Alex explained.
I laughed out loud again at his words.
I stood up, my gaze cold as I looked at him. "Just because you think she feels insecure, weak, and helpless, you think you should protect her at all costs, without questioning right or wrong.
"In your eyes, I'm strong enough to endure a little injustice or harm. Even when she stands by and does nothing, when she provokes me time and again, you turn a blind eye? You can be indifferent even when she's trying to harm me, right?"
Alex didn't answer.
I sighed. 'He'd known her true color, but he doesn't care.'
To be precise, my position in his heart could not be compared to Helena at all.
I sighed and curled my lips. "Of course, the person you should marry is Helena."
"I don't love her," Alex replied coldly.
"But you don't love me either!" I loosened my fists slightly and looked at Alex calmly. After a moment of silence, I said, "If you love me, you can see that I'm covered in injuries."
With that, I smiled, turned, and walked into the room.
I thought I must be crazy to say that to Alex.
He and Helena were childhood sweethearts, I was nothing.
They had made a promise. Even if he treated Helena like a sister, I was in no position to feel uncomfortable or question him.
We were just using each other. We didn't love.
I thought that I must have been seduced by his image as a loving husband. That was why I thought that someone who loved me should care about my feelings.
I forgot that I had no right to judge Alex's private life.
No matter how uncomfortable I felt, I had to hold it in.
The person in the wrong was not Alex, but me. I was too immersed in the role of Mrs. Herrera.
Alex seemed to have learned his lesson. He did not answer Helena's call or see him again.
He stayed in the room and didn't even go to the company.
And from time to time, he showed up in front of me, as if spying on me to make sure that I woulnd't try to escape.
According to Sophina, Helena was brought back to the Cole family by Malcolm, and Jessica's funeral was tomorrow.
However, the Cole family did not invite anyone. Helena could not get through to Alex and actually called me. "Miss Parks. I'm looking for Alex."
Helena's voice on the other end of the phone was very soft and gentle, as if she was crying.
I only found it funny and replied bluntly, "If you want to look for him, why are you looking for me? Do you want me to pull the red string for you?"
Without waiting for Helena to speak, I hung up and blacklisted Helena.
Alex, who was sitting on the sofa opposite me and drinking coffee, naturally heard my words. A hint of hesitation flashed across his eyes. "Did Helena call you?"
"Yeah, she looked for you. When she couldn't find you, she came to my place." I raised my eyebrows. "Why don't you call her back, just in case she takes things too hard."
I didn't expect my words to come true.
