Isaac paused for a moment when he heard my words. His hand, holding the coffee cup, slightly froze.
Just as I was about to leave, I saw Austin walking briskly toward us, with Kailyn right beside him.
."Bro, what are you doing here?" Kailyn asked, looking at Isaac, who was seated in the chair.
When Austin saw me, he hesitated for a moment, furrowing his brows in confusion as he looked between me and Isaac.
"What are you doing here?"
I shot Austin a cold smile and said in a low voice, "Shouldn't you be calling me 'aunt' when you see me?" With that, I raised an eyebrow and looked at Kailyn.
Shaking the check in my hand, I added, "Your brother came over to give you the money, of course!"
Kailyn's cold gaze fixed on me, her eyes filled with anger and hostility. "Brother, why did you give her money? She's clearly been scamming me. Before the bet, she was already married to Alex."
Standing beside her, Austin also spoke up on Kailyn's behalf, "Laurel, aren't you going too far?"
I raised an eyebrow, responding in a neutral tone, "At that time, she said that as long as the Herrera family acknowledged my identity, it wasn't about whether I had married or made a bet. How can you say I'm being unreasonable? It took quite a lot of effort to get the Herrera family to acknowledge me as their daughter-in-law."
"You..." Austin was left speechless by my sharp retort, while Kailyn, standing beside him, furrowed her brow and let out a cold snort.
She turned and tugged at Austin's sleeve, "Austin, you were really blind before, how could you fall for a woman like this, only after money."
My anger had nowhere to go, and Kailyn was clearly walking right into the line of fire!
I smirked, "I admit it, I'm all about the money. Otherwise, I wouldn't have married Alex. Miss Shepherd, you really don't get it, do you? If you weren't the daughter of the Parks family, do you think Austin would marry you?"
Kailyn seemed taken aback by my direct confrontation, as if she hadn't expected me to expose their little secret.
Everyone know that Austin had married into the Parks family for the money.
"Laurel, just because you're greedy doesn't mean everyone is like you," Austin said with a darkened face, his gaze fixed firmly on me. "I married Kailyn because I love her. What about you? Do you really like my uncle? Let's be honest, you only married him to get back at me for breaking up with you."
I couldn't help but let out a laugh at Austin's words.
"Austin, you're really out of touch," I said with a sigh, my eyes full of disdain. "Do you think you're more handsome or richer than my husband? Do you even have any genuine feelings?"
I used to think Austin was just a jerk.
But ever since Rosemary's incident, he quickly distanced himself from her.
He wouldn't even agree to meet her one last time.
If it weren't for Austin being so cowardly, I might have actually believed that Rosemary's death had something to do with him.
As for Kailyn, she didn't really like Austin, but for the sake of her family's marriage alliance, she had no choice but to marry the man who was so fickle.
Isaac quickly stood up and coldly said, "Kailyn, Austin, you two are the younger generation. How can you be so disrespectful?"
Kailyn shot Isaac a disapproving glance and muttered, "Brother, she's the one with no shame, always flirting with other men."
"Kailyn, shut up!" Isaac glared at her.
Kailyn's eyes revealed a hint of shock. "Brother, don't tell me you've fallen for her too?"
Then, turning her gaze to me, she suddenly sneered. "Laurel, are you trying to seduce my brother under the guise of asking for money? Are you trying to secure a backup plan in case Alex falls for someone else?"
"Kailyn, that's enough!" Isaac reined in his smile and suddenly got angry. "Have I spoiled you so much that you think you can act this recklessly?"
Seeing Isaac shout at her, Kailyn immediately exploded. " Isaac, why are you helping her? You never scold me like this!"
She bit her lip and stared at me, almost as if trying to drill holes into me. "Is it just because she's pretty?"
I chuckled lightly. "Miss Shepherd, can't you lose gracefully? Back then, you were so sure I could never marry into the Herrera family, that's why you bet with me. Now that you've lost, you're angry and insulting me?"
"This little money, I'm not upset about losing it. But you, Laurel," Kailyn's voice was laced with coldness, "I'm curious how long you'll sit in the position of Mrs. Herrera." With those words, she turned and left without a second glance.
Austin immediately chased after her.
Isaac's face showed a hint of guilt as he sighed helplessly. "Miss Parks, I'm sorry. My little sister is spoiled."
"It's fine. She'll learn once she faces some consequences," I replied calmly.
Isaac paused for a moment, a subtle frown appearing on his face.
I slowly lifted my head and asked with a meaningful look, "Are you two full-blood siblings?"
A trace of doubt flickered in Isaac's dark eyes as he softly replied, "Miss Parks, I have matters to attend to." With that, he stood up and left in a hurry.
I sat quietly in the chair, watching the figure disappear into the distance, my hand pressing against my temple.
Although he didn't directly answer my question, the flicker of doubt in his eyes told me that Isaac must have known he wasn't Melody's biological son.
What I couldn't understand was, 'If he knew the truth, why hadn't he tried to find his real mother?'' The thought left me feeling a little lost.
Did Isaac hate his mother? Was that why he never sought her out, or perhaps he didn't even know she existed?' My mind was a tangled mess.
So he never went looking, or perhaps he doesn't even know his mother exists?
My thoughts were in turmoil. 'If Isaac really is as ruthless and evil as Aunt Bonnie said, could I truly accept him?'
And would he be able to accept me, this suddenly appearing sister?
After a while, he heard a familiar voice. "Miss Parks, I didn't expect to meet you here." The woman's voice was very soft.
I looked up and was slightly stunned when I saw Samantha.
Samantha smiled faintly, her beautiful peach blossom eyes scanning me up and down. "I should be calling you Mrs. Herrera, right? By the way, why haven't I seen Alex? Aren't you pregnant? How can he leave you here alone? What if something happens?"
I pursed my lips, about to speak, when I looked up and saw Leah, adorned with millions of dollars worth of jewelry, stepping out of a limited edition luxury car, strutting over to me. She looked at me with disdain, her voice cold as she asked, "Where's Alex? Didn't your mother just die? Is it really appropriate for you to attend someone else's engagement party?"
Just as I was about to leave, I saw Austin walking briskly toward us, with Kailyn right beside him.
