When I walked out of the door, I saw Alex walking quickly to me with a dark expression. "Didn't I tell you not to run around? What if something happens?"
Looking at his flawlessly handsome face, my previously gloomy mood lifted a little.
I reached out, wrapped my arm around his, and rested my head against him. Feeling a bit exhausted, I murmured, "I'm tired. Let's go home."
"You..."
"I just want to stay with you." I clung tightly to his arm. He could have left earlier, but he didn't. He stayed because he was afraid that if something happened to me, no one else would be able to save me.
After all, bodyguards could protect me, but they weren't capable of handling the Parks family, especially Kailyn.
"Do you really think you can still leave?" Alex's tone carried a trace of helplessness.
I looked up at him in confusion.
At this moment, an unfamiliar man walked straight to the two of us and stared at me expressionlessly.
"Miss Parks, Mr. Parks asked me to bring the two of you back to the house. To ensure your safety, it's safer to stay there for the time being."
My heart skipped a beat. I didn't expect Maddox to arrange for us to go directly to the Parks family home.
Thinking of Kailyn's provocation to me just now, I instantly understood.
I just didn't expect Maddox to act so quickly and actually investigate my information in such a short time.
As expected of Bruce, he was the man everyone in Wadiff City feared.
Perhaps even Kailyn hadn't anticipated this. Although Maddox did not acknowledge me as his daughter in public, his actions showed that he would not leave me in the lurch.
If the people trying to kill Alex were truly sent by Maddox, it was now clear that he had changed his mind.
After all, if something happened to Alex while under the Parks family's roof, it would be his own reputation on the line.
Moreover, all of his prestige would completely vanish.
He wasn't foolish enough to bring someone home just to get rid of them.
Moreover, I was his biological daughter. No matter how much Melody and her daughter loathed me, they wouldn't dare act recklessly.
Especially when Willow had made a declaration in front of so many guests that if anything happened to me, it would be a direct attack on my identity.
"Do you want to go?" Alex asked.
"Why not?" I stared at Alex.
After all, I did so much just to ensure his safety.
Of course, I had my own motives as well, but I couldn't tell the man in front of me just yet.
He paused for a moment, then smiled and reached out to hold my hand.
After getting my things, I got into the car.
There were cars following both in front and behind, giving us a sense of security.
"Why are you going back to the Parks family home?" Alex looked at me, his gaze scrutinizing.
Looking at the man's gloomy expression, my heart instantly felt uneasy.
The next second, he let out a long sigh. "You're digging your own grave."
I frowned and smiled sarcastically. "I'm already in the grave. What's there to be afraid of?"
Alex sighed helplessly and said in a deep voice, "Take care of yourself in the future. You don't have to save me anymore."
"I don't want to be a widow. Who wants to save you?" I pursed my lips and turned my gaze to the window.
It was already dark outside, but the bright lights in the city instantly lit up the night.
Perhaps I was too exhausted, as I soon drifted off to sleep. When I woke up, I found my entire face buried against his firm, muscular chest.
Lifting my head, I was met with his deep, penetrating gaze and the sight of his Adam's apple bobbing.
His warm breath brushed against my skin as a muffled voice reached my ears. "Are you planning to sleep in the car all night?"
I quickly sat up straight, steadying my breathing.
Alex adjusted his slightly wrinkled collar and cast me a meaningful glance.
After getting out of the car, the butler led me to a room.
Alex was summoned to Maddox's study, leaving me alone in the living room. Strangely, I wasn't called in as well.
As boredom crept in, I suddenly noticed Kailyn and Austin stepping in from outside.
A flicker of surprise flashed across both their faces.
They clearly hadn't expected to see me at the Parks family home.
"What are you doing here?" Austin asked.
I simply rolled my eyes at Austin in disdain.
Seeing that I ignored him, Austin walked straight up to me.
"Laurel, didn't you say you wouldn't come to the Parks family home? So why are you here now?" As he spoke, he reached out and gripped my wrist tightly.
Seeing the dark look in his eyes, I spoke coldly, "Let go."
"I'm asking you, why are you here?" he repeated.
"If you don't let go, don't blame me for being rude."
Austin ignored my warning completely.
In the next second, I lifted my leg and kicked his leg hard. He bent over in pain but still didn't let go of my hand. I stood up, using my free hand to press down on his lowered head.
The once silent room was suddenly filled with a crisp, sharp sound.
When the butler and the servants came out, they were startled by the scene before them.
At this moment, Austin's head hit the table worth a million dollars, shocking everyone in the room.
His nose was covered in blood.
He widened his eyes in disbelief and stared at me.
He didn't seem to expect me to fight him here. Most importantly, he didn't even have time to react before he was hit by me.
Just as he furiously reached out to grab me, I simply shifted to the side and casually pushed him. With that, he stumbled and fell sideways onto a nearby chair.
I coldly watched Austin, who had taken another heavy hit as he collapsed into the chair, my eyes filled with undisguised contempt.
"Do you even know how much this furniture set is worth?" Kailyn lowered her voice, glaring at me viciously.
"Are you asking me to pay for it?" I blinked and smiled disdainfully. "Kailyn, let me remind you. Although I have no interest in acknowledging Maddox as my father, the fact remains that by blood, I am his biological daughter. Unless he leaves a will stating that all his assets go to you, I have the legal right to inherit a share of his estate. So, do you really think this furniture belongs to you?"
Hearing my answer, everyone was stunned on the spot.
Even Austin widened his eyes in disbelief.
At that moment, the butler standing nearby quickly regained his composure and spoke in a steady voice, "Fetch the medical kit. Mr. Herrera, be careful not to let your nosebleed drip onto the furniture, or Mr. Park will be furious."
Austin hurriedly covered his nose with a handkerchief and stood up. He turned around and glared at me.
His eyes burned with the desire to tear me apart, but unfortunately, he simply didn't have the capability.
"Laurel, you... you're too much!" Kailyn looked at me angrily. "Austin only asked you a question. How could you attack him?"
Looking at his flawlessly handsome face, my previously gloomy mood lifted a little.
I reached out, wrapped my arm around his, and rested my head against him. Feeling a bit exhausted, I murmured, "I'm tired. Let's go home."
