Alex took me straight to the hospital. Not only did he not buy me anything delicious, but he also got someone to keep an eye on me 24 hours a day.
The hospital corridor was filled with the pungent smell of disinfectant, and the white light made one feel a little dizzy.
After some examination, there was nothing wrong with my body. However, Alex insisted that I stay in the hospital for a night of observation.
I knew that he was afraid that the media would chase after me and not let go. He was even more afraid that Kailyn would come looking for trouble again.
Just as I sat down on the bed, the door of the ward was pushed open with great effort. Ivan walked in with a slight hunch and a limp.
"Why are you still running around with your legs like this?" I frowned and sneered at Ivan who was panting.
"I don't think you're any better." After saying that, he collapsed on the chair beside him and crossed his injured leg. It was so painful that he gasped.
At this moment, Sophina handed me a box of oatmeal that she had just bought. I shook my head. I had no appetite.
"Sister Laurel, have a drink first. Mr. Herrera wants you to eat something light." Seeing that I didn't say anything, Sophina hurriedly stuffed the spoon in her hand into my hand.
She added, "Even if you're not hungry, the child in your stomach will be hungry. Make do with some food first. I'll buy you a cake, okay?"
I pursed my lips and nodded reluctantly.
When she walked out of the door, she suddenly stopped in her tracks. "Laurel, are you alright being alone?"
Ivan frowned and glared at Sophina in dissatisfaction. "Do you think I don't exist?"
Sophina was stunned for a moment, and a panicked expression appeared on her face.
I said, "Don't scare her. She means that you can't even protect yourself. If anything happens, you won't be able to help me."
Ivan said coldly, "This is the hospital. There are bodyguards watching the entrance. Who dares to come?"
Sophina seemed to think that Ivan was right. Only then did she open the door and walk out in relief.
Before she left, she reminded me not to go out.
"Are you hurt? What happened?" Ivan hurriedly asked after Sophina left.
I answered, "Didn't you see the news online? A video was taken at the scene."
"I read it. You think Kailyn did it? But is she that stupid?"
I took a deep breath. "She just didn't expect me to come out unscathed and expose what she did."
"Aren't you afraid that the Shepherd family will harm you? No matter what, Kailyn is still your sister and Maddox's daughter."
"But did Maddox treat me as his daughter?" I sneered. I suddenly remembered that when my mother left the Parks family, Melody must have threatened my mother, so much so that she chose to leave without anything.
Unexpectedly, many years later, Melody actually wanted to use the methods she used to scare my mother to deal with me. Unfortunately, I was not my mother, and Kailyn wasn't Melody.
As I spoke, the door suddenly turned slowly with a click. Subconsciously, I sat up straight and looked up at the door.
A man in his thirties wearing a black suit and gold-rimmed glasses walked straight up to me. He then took out a business card from his pocket.
"Miss Parks, I'm Grant Potter, Mr. Parks's secretary." As he spoke, he took out a stack of documents from my black briefcase and handed it over with a slight bow. "Miss Parks, Mr. Parks agrees to your request. Just sign this document."
I took the contract and gently twirled the cover with my fingers. A faint smile appeared on my lips as I looked up at him. "Mr. Potter, I want 20% of the shares now. I can't have any less."
"20%?" Grant's face revealed a trace of astonishment. The corners of his mouth trembled slightly, and he wanted to say something but hesitated.
I knew very well that in Grant's opinion, the fact that I could get 16% of the shares was already Maddox's greatest concession to me.
After all, there was no bonding between Maddox and me.
The two of us hated each other. Moreover, he also understood that the reason why I suddenly revealed my identity was to seek justice for myself and my mother.
"That's right. It has to be 20 percent." I stared at Grant with a burning gaze.
"If I were you, I'd sign this contract." After hearing Grant's opinion, I smiled at him and said word by word, "You're not me, so you can't understand it."
Grant was stunned for a moment and nodded silently. "Miss Parks, please wait a moment. I'll tell Mr. Parks."
"Okay, I have plenty of time to wait." Perhaps in their eyes, I was too greedy. Since they all thought so, I naturally had to do my best to be insatiable.
When Ivan saw Grant walk out, he stomped his feet anxiously and hurriedly walked to my bed. He advised seriously, "Don't be stupid. Stop while you're ahead. The key now is to get Maddox to acknowledge you as his daughter. With a status, you will have a good future. Why do you have to fight for this share? Do you want to sell the shares?"
I leaned against the head of the bed and crossed my arms. My expression was calm. "You don't understand. If I hadn't been prepared, I might not have known where I was today. How could I still be talking to you here? I have to fight for these shares. I deserve this."
Shock flashed across Ivan's eyes. "You're Maddox's biological daughter. How dare the Shepherd family do anything to you?"
"Why wouldn't they dare?" I blinked and continued, "Even if they don't kill me, they will find a way to force me to death. Otherwise, why would they kidnap me? For fun?"
After a while, Grant rushed in again and stood respectfully in front of me. "Miss Parks, Mr. Parks said that this is all the shares he can give you. Miss Parks, you should consider it carefully. If you don't agree, there's nothing we can do."
I stared at the contract and smiled coldly. I raised my hand and grabbed it. I tore it apart with both hands in front of Grant. I stared at him sharply and said word by word, "There's no need to think about it. Mr. Potter, please tell Mr. Parks that I only wanted 16% originally, but her precious daughter made the wrong move. I'm not in a hurry..."
Grant's expression changed slightly. A trace of panic flashed across his eyes behind his glasses, but he quickly regained his composure. He only pursed his lips tightly and did not respond. He turned around and left the ward.
Ivan sighed and said helplessly, "Why did you tear up the contract? There's nothing left now."
"Don't worry, Maddox won't leave her in the lurch."
Ivan was a little confused and looked at me suspiciously. "What do you mean?"
I slowly sat up straight and smiled. "There are two people who kidnapped me. One of them is still lying in the hospital. I don't believe I can't pry his mouth open."
