The woman who had walked off suddenly stopped in her tracks. She turned back and sized up the man disdainfully. Her gaze was sharp. "Who are you talking to?"
I noticed that the woman was wearing the latest fashion from Chanel and carrying the latest LV bag. She was decked out in branded accessories from head to toe.
Not that there was anything odd about that. After all, those who could live here were either rich or hailed from the elite classes.
However, the strong perfume on the woman's body was quite unbearable.
Her facial features were pretty decent, though she resembled some female influencer who sold goods online.
She was pretty but not particularly breathtaking.
She had bumped into me, yet her tone was somewhat arrogant and even a little condescending.
"You bumped into someone. Aren't you going to apologize? Is it so difficult for you to apologize?" The bespectacled man's tone was almost murderous.
The woman gave a scornful snort and raised her chin haughtily. She then arched her eyebrows. "Did you see me bump into her? So what if I did bump into her? Doesn't she know how to give way when she sees people getting out of the elevator? She should be the one apologizing, shouldn't she? Besides, what has it got to do with you?"
The woman gave another snort haughtily. Then, as if her words were not enough to vent her anger, she continued, "Don't you know that only the uncivilized will block the way?"
I frowned slightly. At first, I didn't intend to stoop so low as to argue with Miss Botox here, but her words were too provocative.
She was at fault, yet she was still so arrogant to the man.
Did she not know that the people who could afford to stay here were no ordinary people?
Despite her expensive attire, she had boorish behavior and was evidently not a good judge of people.
Although the man standing in front of me was not wearing brand name fashion labels, it was clear that he was wearing a bespoke suit.
Bespoke suits were not things that people could simply buy even if they were rich.
Moreover, the watch on his wrist seemed very ordinary, but it was the world's first watch with a watch case and solid-block lumed dial crafted from a proprietary carbon fiber-based composite. As this model had been discontinued, its current market value was around 1 million. Due to its rarity, very few people knew about this watch.
Before I could say anything, the man's eyes flashed ominously. He said icily, "I'm giving you one last chance. If you don't apologize, you'll have to bear the consequences."
When the woman heard the man threatening her, she became angry instantly. She gave a disdainful snort before retorting, "Who do you think you are? You still want to threaten me with consequences? Are you trying to scare me?"
After that, she sized up the man again and sneered. "I don't think the two of you look familiar. Which family's chauffeur are you? Or are you thinking of becoming this woman's kept man? She looks terribly ordinary in the way she dresses. You should at least look for a truly rich woman."
"Since you are unrepentant, don't blame me then." The man narrowed his eyes as a glint flashed dangerously in his dark eyes.
The woman was taken aback momentarily. She then covered her mouth and sniggered. "Why? Do you want to hit me? Are you threatening me? I'll get the security guards to chase you out now. Seriously, I don't know what sort of people are staying upstairs. Even their driver dares to shout at me. Don't tell me the two of you want to blackmail me?"
"Mister, let's go. There's no need for you to stoop to the level of a lunatic." I yawned lazily and shot the woman a sideways glance before reaching out to press the elevator button.
The woman became furious when she heard that. She pointed in my direction and yelled, "Who the fuck are you calling a lunatic?"
I gave her another dismissive side-glance and couldn't be bothered with her anymore.
Just as the two of us entered the elevator and before we could press the button for our respective floors, the woman blocked the elevator doors and glared at me fiercely. "Where do you think you are going? I'm warning you. I won't let the two of you off today."
I smirked nonchalantly. "Go and complain then. Tell them that you bumped into me and got scolded by me. Anyway, there are surveillance cameras. We'll see who's in the right when the management investigates."
The woman was stunned. "Fine. Just you wait..." With that, she stormed off.
The moment the elevator doors closed, I sighed helplessly. After I pressed the button for my floor, I realized that the man standing beside me was actually staying on the top floor.
That was the penthouse suite, which occupied the whole floor. It was not a unit that was wantonly sold to anyone with deep pockets.
"Thank you for your help earlier." I broke the silence.
The man didn't say anything. When the elevator stopped on my floor, I immediately exited.
However, my heart was pounding non-stop. Thankfully, that transfer student didn't recognize me.
I secretly heaved a sigh of relief.
The next second, I heard the sound of the door opening. Then, Sophina Trenton opened the door and stepped out. "Laurel, what's wrong?"
I came back to my senses and approached Sophina. "Where's Zachary?"
"He has just fallen asleep."
I nodded. Two days after I came back, I still told the housekeeper to tidy up a room for Zachary. After all, I couldn't make him sleep downstairs all the time.
Honeydew Estate was considered safe. As long as he did not wander around, he would not be in danger.
"You're going out?" I looked at Sophina with surprise.
Sophina nodded. "I want to go downstairs to buy some food and toys for Zachary. He made a fuss today about wanting to go out, but Drew didn't allow him."
I was puzzled for a moment. Drew had always been easygoing. And Sophina was only taking the kid to the supermarket downstairs.
"Drew said that Mr. and Mrs. Parks are coming to Nifelheim City today, together with Ms. Parks, so he told us not to go out." Sophina frowned and looked puzzled. "Laurel, is it really dangerous for Zachary to go out? Isn't the Parks family very powerful? Why are there still people who want to harm Zachary?"
I sighed softly. "Perhaps it's because the Parks family have offended many people outside. It's also possible that Zachary's presence threatens some people and their vested interests."
In reality, I knew in my heart that Melody Shepherd probably wouldn't harm Zachary rashly now. She would rather deal with me.
Nonetheless, I must hand it to Melody Shepherd. In just a few days, she managed to convince Maddox Parks to let her accompany him to Nifelheim City, along with Kailyn.
Of course, part of the reason might be that Maddox didn't want Nifelheim City to know that he did not get along with Melody.
I followed Sophina to the supermarket downstairs to buy some snacks. I was worried that Zachary would cry when he woke up, so I rushed back after buying the snacks. Just as I reached the elevator, I suddenly saw a few men in uniforms walking out with bags of various sizes. Behind them was an ashen-faced woman. "You guys can't kick me out. Let go of me!"
"Ms. Gunther, you've offended someone you shouldn't have. It's no longer appropriate for you to stay in our neighborhood. Please leave as soon as possible." One of the security guards stared sternly at the woman and spoke indifferently.
"How... how is it not appropriate?" The woman's eyes were slightly red-rimmed, and her voice was agitated and indignant. "The apartment belongs to my boyfriend. You guys have no right to chase me away!"
