I quietly watched Leah, and seeing her so smug, I couldn't help but let out a soft laugh.
"What are you laughing at?" Leah said, her voice sharp.
"Miss Herrera, what exactly are you doing?" I asked, my gaze fixed on Leah with a half-smile.
Leah completely ignored me, giving me a quick glance before turning to Sophina, who was standing nearby. She snapped, "I told you to put my luggage in the master bedroom. Are you deaf?"
"Leah, did you take a wrong turn?" I asked, glancing at Dorothy and signaling for her to take Zachary back to his room.
I didn't want to cause a scene in front of Zachary; I was worried it might set a bad example for him. But if I didn't teach Leah a lesson, she might really think I was an easy target.
Dorothy understood right away and immediately took Zachary back to his room.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Leah scoffed. "You don't want me to stay here? And you think you can stop me?"
"Leah, if you don't have anywhere else to stay, I can let you stay for a few nights," I said calmly. "But the master bedroom is for the owner of the house. It's not appropriate for a guest to stay there. I can have someone clean up a guest room for you."
Leah paused, then spoke in an incredulous tone, "Laurel, haven't you figured it out yet? Everything Alex owns belongs to the Herrera family. With just one call, my father can take everything back. All I'm asking is for you to give up this house, and you think that's too much to ask?"
I nodded slowly. "It is quite a lot to ask, considering how many people are in this house. Leah, if you really like this house, you can always buy one for yourself."
I hadn't expected Leah to shamelessly say something like that. But I could tell from her words that Raphael was clearly dissatisfied with Alex's recent attitude toward work.
Raphael seemed to care a lot about Alex. But after Alex nearly died, the members of the Herrera family didn't care about his injuries. Instead, they wanted to strip him of his power.
Was Raphael trying to replace the heir? Did the Herrera family know that Alex's injuries were serious? If that was the case, they could easily just replace him as president of Herrera Group.
"Buy?" Leah's voice dripped with arrogance and disdain. "Getting this house would be easy for me. Not only do I want this house, but everything Alex owns will be mine."
Leah had always been ambitious, or else she wouldn't use marriage as a stepping stone. And from the way she spoke, it didn't sound like she was joking.
I cleared my throat twice, then slowly said, "Too bad this house isn't in your name."
"Laurel, don't you understand what I'm saying?" Leah clearly lost her patience. She glared at me with a domineering look. "Since I said it, this house is now mine. Pack up your things and get out."
I sighed deeply and looked at Leah. My voice turned cold. "Miss Herrera, you must have come to the wrong place. Since you refuse to listen to me, I'll just call security. Let's see who gets kicked out, me or you."
"You wouldn't dare," Leah spat, glaring at me, her face flushed with anger.
I couldn't be bothered to continue arguing with her. I turned to head toward the dining room, but Leah stopped me.
"Laurel, I'll say it again. Pack up your things and get out right now, or I won't let you off easy," Leah warned.
I let out a cold laugh, my eyes fixed on Leah, who was now fuming. "This house is mine. You want me to leave?"
Leah's face went pale with shock. "Impossible. This house belongs to Alex. How could it possibly be yours?"
"If you don't believe me, you can have someone check," I said, pausing before adding, "And by the way, you think you can just take over as president of Herrera Group? I'm afraid it's not something you ca just decide yourself. From what I know, you're supposed to be Vice President at the branch, right?"
"What's it to you?" Leah scoffed, looking at me with disdain. "Alex is injured. What difference does it make if I'm Vice President or president?"
"Of course, it makes a difference. Alex temporarily handed over the president's position to me," I said, thinking for a moment. "Actually, he just wants me to keep an eye on you so you don't mess everything up."
"Handed it over to you? Why? Who do you think you are?" Leah said, her voice filled with anger.
Looking at Leah, who glared at me, I spoke calmly, "Because he's the president."
Leah was momentarily silenced by my words, unable to find anything to retort with.
After a long pause, she finally spat, "You're just a bitch. You've been married for such a short time, and already Alex has given the house to you. Now, you're dreaming of getting into Herrera Group. Dream on."
With that, Leah huffed, grabbed her suitcase, and stormed out, slamming the door behind her.
Sophina stood there, stunned, for quite a while before she snapped back to reality. Nervously, she spoke, "Laurel, Leah is definitely going to run to Lena and complain. She won't let this go."
"It's fine," I said, trying to reassure her. "I've been feeling a little bored lately, so let her give me some entertainment. It's all good." I gave Sophina's shoulder a light pat, looking at her tense form and sighing softly.
"You don't need to be so scared of her. She's not as tough as she looks. People like her never even realize how they're going to die."
Of course, I didn't actually say that last part out loud. I didn't want to scare Sophina.
Raphael knew exactly what kind of person Leah was. There was no way he would let a woman take over Herrera Group.
Even if she had Lena backing her, she wouldn't last long as Vice President of Herrera Group. After all, it's hard for a company to have two bosses.
Austin, who had finally found an opportunity to stand out at the branch, wouldn't let his aunt take it from him. Watching them fight among themselves was actually pretty amusing.
"Laurel, did Mr. Herrera really ask you to manage Herrera Group?" Sophina asked curiously.
I nodded as I sat down at the dining table.
I called out to Dorothy, and Zachary immediately ran over to me, a confused and fearful look on his face. "Laurel, that lady just now was so mean. Is she trying to kick me out?"
I lifted Zachary onto the chair and gently reassured him, "Zachary, don't worry. No one can kick you out. As long as you want, you can stay with me forever."
"Really?" Zachary's face lit up with a bright smile, like sunshine.
Just then, the doorbell rang again. Sophina froze for a moment, and I stood up and walked toward the door.
I opened it to find a man wearing a white shirt, holding a bouquet of pink roses. He stood there at the doorstep.
