Austin did not know how much shares I had taken. Although he was Kailyn's fiancé, he actually did not know much about the Parks family. Or rather, they would not tell outsiders about their family matters.
After all, there were no eternal enemies, nor were there eternal friends.
Leah was stunned for half a second before he laughed contemptuously. "Laurel, you're really impressive. It seems like I underestimated you in the past. I originally thought that you married Alex just to take revenge on Austin, but now it seems that you're here for the Herrera family, right?"
In her eyes, I had always been a coward. After all, I didn't get anything after being with Austin for so long.
However, after marrying Alex, not only did he almost cut ties with the Herrera family, but I also got two houses at Honeydew Estate. In her opinion, I married Alex for money.
I raised my eyes and looked at Leah with a fake smile. "I was young and insensible in the past, so I didn't want anything. However, the painful lesson told me that feelings can't last long. Money is more reliable. Leah, you have been through this before. Don't you know this logic?"
Leah was rendered speechless by my words. She glared at me coldly before slamming the door and leaving.
When Austin saw Leah leave, he grabbed my arm anxiously. I tried to dodge, but he gripped me like a vise.
"Why did I faint yesterday?" Austin stared at me expressionlessly.
I frowned when I saw his cold features so close to me. "I'm not a doctor," I said in a low voice, "Why are you asking me?"
Austin was a head taller than me. A trace of confusion flashed across his deep eyes as he questioned again, "Why are you checking the company's accounts?"
"What are you afraid of?" I sneered.
Austin's eyes were a little evasive. Then, he let go of my hand. "I didn't. Did Maddox really give you 20% of the shares?"
"If you don't believe me, you can ask your fiancée." I chuckled and slowly raised my head to look at Austin. "I almost forgot that you two had a fight. Actually, you should spend more time with your fiancée..."
I started to say something, then stopped.
Austin was stunned and hurriedly said, "Mandy and I are not what you think."
"Don't worry, I'm not interested in knowing about the two of you." I looked at him meaningfully and smiled. "I agree to your request. We can work together. If Leah won't ask for the first payment, you should know what to do!"
He said, "If we can't gather the first sum of money, it will be bad for the company's reputation."
"She can't do it, but you can think of a way," I said calmly, "You're the Parks family's future son-in-law. You'll definitely think of a way to solve it, right?"
Austin did not reply. He turned around and walked out of the office. The noisy office suddenly fell silent. I made myself a cup of coffee and sat down at the desk.
Just as I was hesitating if I should call Yaeger, my phone screen suddenly lit up.
When I saw that it was a call from Marvin, I could not help but be filled with anticipation. I wondered if he had found the murderer who killed Wilhelm Joetze.
Sirens and noise came from the other end of the line. After a while, I heard Marvin's voice reach my ears. "Another case happened. Liesel Gunther committed suicide by jumping off a building."
"Liesel Gunther?" My mind went blank when I heard that name.
Marvin seemed to have walked to a quiet place and continued, "I'm at the scene now. Liesel is Wilhelm's lover."
"How can that be? Liesel has a boyfriend."
Marvin sighed softly. "So what if she has a boyfriend? Maybe she has other boyfriends besides the two men."
"Suicide or homicide?" I asked.
"We have to wait for the forensic doctor to arrive at the scene. We can't be sure yet." Marvin paused for two seconds. "Be careful. This case is more complicated than I thought. Don't investigate on your own."
Before I could respond, Marvin anxiously said, "Let's not talk anymore. I'm busy. I'll hang up first."
I picked up the coffee and took a long sip.
It was not easy to find the man in the photo, but he suddenly died. Moreover, his heart had been taken. I wondered who sent the photo to me.
We finally found a lead in this case, but Liesel committed suicide.
Liesel was working for the Herrera Group, and her boyfriend was the person who pushed me down the stairs.
I wondered if Austin was behind them. If he was afraid that I would find clues, the person who died shouldn't be Liesel.
My mind was in a mess. I suddenly thought of Bailee Foster. I hadn't seen Bailee since I came to the office yesterday.
I asked, "Where is Bailee?"
Danny was slightly stunned. He stammered, "Ms. Foster went to the hospital..."
I couldn't help but sneer when I heard that. Alex chased Bailee away in front of me, but he now asked her to visit him in the hospital.
With his ability, he should be able to find out that the person who killed the child in my stomach was Bailee.
Thinking of this, I couldn't help but freeze on the spot. Alex didn't care about losing the child at all.
Moreover, according to his attitude towards children in the past, he did not want this child at all.
So, I wondered if he had asked Bailee to do this to me. I was taken aback by my own guess.
Because I didn't want to abort the baby in my belly, he borrowed someone else's hand. Liesel was from Herrera Group. It was suspicious that she was in Nifelheim City.
I quickly packed my things and left in a hurry. Twenty minutes later, I was standing outside Alex's ward.
"Sir, you can't go back on your word." The voice in the room was soft and seductive.
I snorted and pushed the door open. Bailee's hand froze at Alex's knee.
Even Alex looked at me in shock, as if he hadn't expected me to suddenly appear here.
He asked, "Laurel, why are you here?"
It was rare to see Alex's stunned expression. I smiled. At this moment, Bailee, who was originally squatting, stood up. A smug smile appeared on her lips, but it disappeared in an instant.
"What are you doing?" I asked indifferently.
"I'm giving him a massage." Bailee straightened her back with a calm expression.
"Shouldn't you be at the company at this time, Ms. Foster? Why are you here?"
"Mrs. Herrera, Lena personally asked me to come over."
